Editor's Note Dear Readers, I am delighted to present the second edition of the Leo Cafe monthly newsletter of the Leo Club of Homagama Central. This newsletter focuses on the various projects and events that Leos have been involved in. Project Upattapana and Fill the bowl were successfully completed in September. These projects aimed to strengthen ties among Leos and enhance the spirit of Leoism. Also in this edition, we have an article in honour of literacy month: "Reading makes a full man". Finally, we have articles on handing over technical knowledge with "Geeks to Go" and Learning Widget. This year, the Leo Club of Homagama Central reached another milestone by being awarded as the best IT-enabled club, and for the best joint project with an outside organization at the C2 Awards.Readers can also be aware about the accolades received from the club through the newsletter. To conclude, I would like to thank all the editorial committee members for writing these wonderful articles. I would also like to thank the Chief Designer Leo Mihin along with the Designing team for their constant assistance and support in making this newsletter a unique one. 'Have an inspiring reading'

As humans, we are able to express our basic needs and feelings to other fellow humans, one way or the other. Unfortunately, animals cannot always express their feelings to us. Imagine being hungry and voiceless at the same time. All those poor stray animals are feeling the same but in a much larger magnitude. So, as Leos of Homagama Central, we decided to help those poor souls by providing them with a delicious and healthy meal. It was chaired by Leo Lasandi MatharaArachchi. With all the donations from the well-wishers and club members, we were able to distribute food and yogurt for the stray animals within the Kottawa, Homagama and Pitipana areas. Leo Senura Battage, Leo Gaveen Nayanajith, Leo Chamin Kahandawaarachchi, club advisor Leo Pulinda Atapattu with few other club members, were able to successfully conclude the project by making a great impact to eradicate hunger.

CURRENT TRENDS IN THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY

Currently, the IT industry has become one of the most volatile domains regarding developing and advancing new trends and technology. Today we are going to look into the 4 modern trends that have taken the IT industry to a new level.

The First Trend is Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) which has taken the IT industry to a whole new level. It is a trending computing technology that gives users the benefit of predicting and automation capabilities for their day-to-day life. The Second Trend we are looking into will be Quantum Computing. Quantum Computing is a computation method that uses quantum physics laws to harness the computation power. With Quantum computing, basically, the calculation speed is reduced from several minutes to several milliseconds. The third trend we are discussing will be Blockchain. Blockchain is a way of keeping data in a register, in which small blocks are allocated to hold those data. These blocks are chained together with a method called Cryptography which ensures negative data loss and false data manipulation as well.

LEO Club of Homagama Central

The fourth and last trends we are going to discuss will be Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). Even though these two are fair differences the basic idea for both of these is essentially the same. It creates a 3D-modeled environment that will combine both the real and virtual worlds. AR and VR are not only being used in the IT industry but also in other complementing industries such as marketing which are using the IT industry's services constantly. So as you can see the IT industry will never stand still. So if you are ready and willing to be a part of it you must keep up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends as this rapidly changing IT world will have you waiting on your toes with all the tech advancements that are yet to hit the market. “The most important lesson I’ve learned in life is that we often don’t get the things we desire, in the way we would like them. That's how the world works. But if we know where we want to be and what we want, we can make the most of everything we have. We can use them to get where we want to be. The only thing that matters is who’s behind the wheel.”
