Mustang News January 2013 Dear Parents: Happy New Year! I hope this letter finds you enjoying the holiday season with your family and friends. If you have any questions about the information listed below, please call us at 847-949-2200. Stay warm! Term 2 Final Exams Students will take final exams on Wednesday, January 9 and Thursday, January 10. We will follow the Final Exam ‘D’ Schedule, with exams given for periods 1 and 2 on Wednesday and for periods 3 and 4 on Thursday. Please encourage your son/daughter to prepare for these important assessments. Start of Term 3 On Monday, January 14, 2013, all students should report directly to their first period class. Term 3 schedules will be distributed to students during Homeroom before Term 2 final exams. If students have questions or concerns about their schedule, they should make an appointment to see their guidance counselor. Educational Planning/Course Selection 2013-2014 During the month of January, we will continue with the course selection process for all current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Please talk with your son/daughter about his/her educational plans. If you have any questions about this process, please contact your child’s guidance counselor. Update from the School Nurse There have been four (4) identified cases of pertussis since the start of school. If your child has a cough, maybe without symptoms of a cold, we encourage your child to be tested for pertussis. The cough may develop into “coughing fits” that make one gag or vomit. If your child does get tested, he/she MUST stay home until the results are confirmed or he/she has been on an antibiotic for five (5) days. Drop-Off/Pick-Up Reminder Drop off and pick up students in the East lot ONLY. We need everyone to follow our drop-off and pick-up procedures in order to maintain a safe campus. College Financial Aid Night Parents and students are invited to attend a College Financial Aid Night on Thursday, January 10 at 7:00 pm in the MHS Auditorium. The guest speaker will be Christopher Rone, Ed.D., associate director of financial aid at DePaul University. Dedication of New Pool Please join us on Monday, January 21, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, for the dedication of our beautiful new pool. We are very excited for the community to see the results of their support for MHS. Academic Achievement Scholarship Attention seniors: applications for the MHS Academic Achievement Scholarship will be available in the CCRC in January. Please stop in the CCRC for information regarding this and many other scholarship opportunities.

Student Financial Accounts Student financial accounts must be in good standing. In order to purchase dance tickets or to participate in some extracurricular activities, all fees/fines must be paid (or current with an approved payment plan) and all textbooks and library books must be returned. Please check with the Bookstore/Payment Center at 847-949-2200 ext. 1235 with any questions regarding student fees. Free and Reduced Meal Program Families may apply for Free or Reduced Meals (breakfast and lunch) at any time during the school year. The application is available in the Main Office or the Business Office. If your family’s financial circumstances change during the school year, please take advantage of this program. Also, please let us know if your contact information changes at any time. Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Update PBIS continues to encourage our students to be Safe, Timely, Accountable, and Respectful. MHS recently received a certificate from the state for reaching a new milestone with the program. Mr. Brett Wilhelm, the October winner of the Jars of Misfortune, visited classrooms dressed as Chewbacca. Students were treated to high fives, fist pumps and howls from their favorite Star Wars character while celebrating their positive behavior. November's winner, Mrs. Yordy, demonstrated her good fashion sense with brightly dyed red hair the entire week before winter break. We continue to look for creative ways to encourage our students to be a STAR. We have recruited student leaders to help us carry out PBIS at MHS. Our student leaders will be passing out STARBUCKS to other students who they catch doing the right thing. Be sure to ask your student if they have been acknowledged by a teacher or another student. As always, continue to encourage your student to be Safe, Timely, Accountable, and Respectful. Mr. Mustang Mark the date on your calendar: Saturday, February 23 at 7:00 pm. “Mr. Mustang” will feature some of our amazing Mundelein Senior Boys. Graduation – Class of 2013 Graduation for the Class of 2013 will take place on Sunday, May 19 at the Libertyville Sports Complex, 1950 N. Route 45, at 3:00 pm. Every graduate will receive six (6) wristbands to admit guests. Graduates will be required to take a bus from MHS to the Complex, but they do not have to ride the bus back after the ceremony. Senior Graduation Party The Mustang Parent Club is beginning to plan the 2013 Graduation Party scheduled for Friday, May 17. We are in the planning phase, and we are asking any interested parents to attend a meeting scheduled at the high school on Tuesday, January 8, in the District Meeting Room at 6:00 pm. Estimados Padres: ¡Feliz Año Nuevo! Espero que ésta nota los encuentre disfrutando de las festividades de fin de año con sus familias y amistades. Si tienen preguntas sobre la información siguiente por favor llamen a: 847-949-2200. Exámenes Finales del Termino 2 Los estudiantes tomarán los exámenes finales el miércoles 9, y jueves 10 de enero. Seguiremos el horario “D” de exámenes finales, con los exames para los períodos 1 y 2 el miércoles, y para los períodos 3 y 4 el jueves. Por favor asegúrense de que sus estudiantes vengan preparados para estas importantes evaluaciones. Inicio del Término 3 El lunes 14 de enero, 2013, todos los estudiantes se deberán reportar directamente a su clase del primer período. Los horarios del término 3 serán distribuidos durante homeroom antes de iniciar los exámenes finales del término 2. Si los estudiantes tienen preguntas o inquietudes sobre sus horarios, ellos deberán hacer una cita para ver a sus consejeros. Planeación Educativa/ Selección de Cursos 2013-2014 Durante el mes de enero, nosotros continuaremos con la selección de cursos para nuestros actuales estudiantes de los grados 9º, 10º, y 11º. Por favor platiquen con sus estudiantes acerca de sus planes académicos. Si tienen alguna pregunta sobre éste tema, por favor contacten al consejero de su estudiante. Noticias al Día de la Enfermera Desde el inicio de éste año escolar se han reportado (4) casos de tosferina. Si sus estudiantes padecen de tos, tal vez sin síntomas de catarro, les sugerimos que los lleven para ser examinados de tosferina. Esta tos puede desarrollarse en “ataques de tos” que hacen que uno se ahogue o vomite. Si su estudiante es examinado, el o ella DEBERA permanecer en casa hasta que tengan la confirmación de los resultados, o el/ ella haya tomado antibióticos por (5) días. Recordatorio sobre Traer/ Recoger Traigan y recojan a sus estudiantes SOLAMENTE en el estacionamiento del este. Para mantener un establecimiento seguro, necesitamos seguir éste procedimiento adecuadamente. Velada de Información sobre Ayuda Financiera para la Universidad Invitamos a los padres y estudiantes para una Velada de información sobre Ayuda Financiera, el jueves, 10 de enero a las 7:00pm en el auditorio de MHS. El Sr. Christopher Rone, Ed.D., director asociado de ayuda financiera en la Universidad de DePaul, presentará la información y responderá a sus preguntas. Inauguración de la Nueva Alberca Los invitamos a que se nos unan el lunes, 21 de enero, de 6:00pm- 8:00pm, para la inauguración de nuestra bella alberca. Nos complace mucho que la comunidad pueda ver los resultados de su apoyo para MHS. Beca de Logros Académicos Atención seniors: las solicitudes para la Beca de Logros Académicos de MHS (Academic Achievement Scholarship) estará disponible en el CCRC en enero. Cuentas de Pago de los Estudiantes Para poder comprar entradas a bailes y otras actividades extracurriculares, todas sus cuentas deberán estar en buen estado. Todos los pagos/multas deberán estar cancelados (o al día y todos los textos y libros de la biblioteca deberán ser devueltos. Favor de averiguar en la Librería/Centro de Pagos 847-949-2200 ext. 1235 si tienen preguntas sobre las cuentas de estudiantes. Programa de De Comida Gratos o a Precio Reducido Las familias pueden solicitar Comidas Gratis o a Precio Reducido (desayuno y almuerzo) durante cualquier época del año. Las solicitudes están disponibles en la Oficina Principal o en la Oficina de Negocios. Por favor aprovechen éste programa si la situación económica de su familia cambia durante el año escolar. También déjennos saber si cambia su información de contacto. Noticias de PBIS (Intervención y Apoyo para el Comportamiento Positivo) PBIS continúa exhortando a nuestros estudiantes a ser Seguros, Puntuales, Confiables y Respetuosos. Recientemente MHS recibió un certificado del estado por alcanzar un nuevo escalón con éste programa. El Sr. Brett Wilhelm, fue el ganador del “Frasco de las Desgracias” del mes de octubre, a él le tocó visitar salones vestido de Chewbacca. Los estudiantes fueron saludados por su personaje favorito de Star Wars mientras celebraban por su comportamiento positivo. La ganadora del mes de noviembre, la Sra. Yordy, demostró su buen sentido de la moda luciendo un estilo de cabellera teñido de un rojo brillante, durante toda la semana anterior al descanso de invierno. Continuamos buscando maneras creativas para animar a nuestros estudiantes a que sean una STAR. Hemos entrenado a nuestros estudiantes líderes para que nos ayuden a llevar a cabo PBIS en MHS. Nuestros estudiantes líderes distribuirán STARBUCKS a otros estudiantes que ellos pesquen haciendo lo correcto. Asegúrense de preguntarle a su estudiante si han sido reconocidos por un maestro u otro estudiante. Mr. Mustang Marquen ésta fecha en sus calendarios por favor: sábado 23 de febrero a las 7:00pm “Mr Mustang” presentará a algunos de nuestros extraordinarios Muchachos Senior de Mundelein. Graduación 2013 La graduación para la generación del 2013 se llevará a cabo el domingo, 19 de mayo en el Complejo Deportivo de Libertyville, 1950 N. Route 45, a las 3:00pm. Cada graduando recibirá seis (6) brazaletes para admitir a sus invitados y un pase de estacionamiento en el Complejo. Los graduandos deberán llegar al lugar tomando un bus escolar de MHS al Complejo, pero no están obligados a tomar el bus después de la ceremonia. Fiesta de Graduación Senior El Club de Padres Mustang está empezando a planear la fiesta de graduación 2013, para el viernes, 17 de mayo. Estamos en la fase de planes y les pedimos a los padres que estén interesados, a que asistan a una reunión en la escuela en el Cuarto de Reuniones del Distrito , el martes 8 de enero a las 6:00pm.
