Eventos Estimados Padres: Hemos tenido un fin de semana maravilloso para Santa Cecilia. Tuvimos una gran celebración ayer en la misa de las 10 a.m. festejando a los estudiantes de segundo grado, junto con un grupo de compañeros de grados 3 y 4 quienes recibieron su primera comunión. Un agradecimiento especial a la señorita Bruemmer que ayudó a preparar a los niños para este sacramento y el día especial. Felicitaciones a los siguientes estudiantes:

Este fin de semana fue trascendental para nuestros estudiantes de 8º grado, quienes pasaron gran parte de su gira por la capital del país. Hicieron amigos rápidos con compañeros de estudios en San Francisco Seraph y tuvieron la oportunidad de ver y experimentar mucho en su viaje de 8º grado. La pasaron muy bien y estoy muy orgulloso de su comportamiento representando a la escuela.

Se le recuerda a los padres que nuestra reunión final de Trece de mayo será mañana después de la escuela en la cafetería.

Subvención Kremer Los padres que pagan matrícula para apoyar la educación de sus hijos deben solicitar subvención Kremer, una beca para ayudar a compensar sus costos generales de matrícula. La Fundación Kremer generosamente va a proveer a la escuela con $10,000 el próximo año para ayudar a las familias con el pago de la matrícula. La cantidad que familias reciban dependerá del número de personas que solicitan. Hay condiciones financieras estrictas que los solicitantes deben cumplir para ser considerado para una beca. Las solicitudes se pueden recoger en la oficina de la escuela y deben ser devueltas antes del viernes, 22 de mayo.

What’s coming in the next week…. Preschool 

Next week we will be exploring different types of weather! Students will review vocabulary words used to discuss weather. We will read The Little Cloud, The Wind Blew, and Otis and the Tornado. Students will get to explore different types of weather through sensory bottles during center time. We will also experiment with wind and what kinds of objects the wind may blow around. Students will predict which items they think will blow and which ones will not. We will use a fan to conduct our experiment! Students will learn the letter Ee and review the number 3 in different forms. In Religion, we will pray for our friend Shugo who moved back to Japan last month and begin to write letters to him!

Kindergarten 

Next week in reading students will learn the letter y. They will learn y as a consonant and that it makes the sound heard at the beginning of yarn. Students will learn the sight word they. Students will focus on how to write a complete sentence. They will review that sentences begin with a capital letter and end with the correct end mark. We will revive the three types of end marks. Students will continue to observe the classroom caterpillars. The caterpillars are currently in their chrysalises. Students are learning the four stages of the butterfly life cycle: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis and butterfly. We are patiently waiting for the final stage!

Grade 1 

Next week, students will read and create the following poem types to continue our Poetry Unit: Alliteration, Acrostic, and Color. Our Spelling words for the week are: every, thank, does, first, green, once. Our Spelling Pattern will be words with consonant -le with the -ck team (-ckle ending). There is no vocabulary this week. Some of those words are: pickle, tickle, crackle, buckle, freckle, chuckle. We will begin our Science Unit about the Moon. By the end of it, students should be able to tell the moon phase just by looking at the moon and knowing what the moon phase was the day before. In Religion, we will learn more about the Creation Story and work on a couple of projects to show our learning. In Math, we have started Chapter 10. Students are reading and creating picture graphs, bar graphs, and tally charts to represent information. Your child will also receive a Dolch Sight Word List that will show words they know and words they don’t know. They are to practice at home until they can read them all quickly with no mistakes. When they do, they may bring their word list back to school and receive a treat from me! They have until the end of the school year to do this.

Grade 2 

Next week students will be working with words that have the long oo sound spelled with the patterns ui, ew, ou, ue, oo, and silent e. Students will continue reading Extreme Insects. We will focus on the comprehension skill of finding the main idea and supporting details. We will then use what we find to write a summary. Students will use commas appropriately in a list, understand and match synonyms, and identify r blends. In Math, students will continue to practice telling time. In Ms. Musselman’s Math class we will continue with metric units of measurements and take a test on the chapter. In Religion, students will talk about how they are One in the Church now that they have received the Body and Blood of Christ at their First Holy Communion.

Grade 3       

Religion – Students will learn about people putting God first in their life. They will also learn more about mercy. English - Students will continue learning about verbs in the past, present and future tense. For the test, they will choose the correct verb tense in sentences. Reading – Students will start reading the chapter book, Ramona Quimby: Age 8. Vocabulary - ferocious, triumphant, anxious, fuming, astonishment, responsibility Spelling - Students will concentrate on spelling correctly in their work. Science / S. Studies - Students will start learning about the Digestive System. They will also continue to observe and journal in their plant book. Math - Students will continue learning about fractions. The Ch. 8 test will be Wednesday, April 27th. We will then start the chapter on comparing fractions.

Grade 4   

   

Religion – Students will continue learning about fourth, fifth and sixth commandments. English - Students will continue to study verbs. Reading - Students will continue to read Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachlan. Students will also study how authors use evidence to support their reasoning in informational texts. Science – Students will continue to study types on energy. Math (Musselman) - Students will learn about area and perimeter. Math (Sanvido) – Students will take a test on converting decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals. Students will begin geometry. Social Studies – Students will learn about the Civil War.

Religion – Students will continue learning about the Sacraments of Healing. English - Students will finish up adverbs. Reading - Students will continue the Maniac Magee novel study. Science – Students will continue to study sound and how it travels through solids, liquids, and gasses. Math (Ms. Musselman) - Students will continue learning about patterns and graphs and take a test on the chapter. Math (Mrs. Sanvido) – Students will take a test on complex area. Students will then begin learning about volume of different 3D shapes. Social Studies – Students will continue learning about the American Revolution.

Grade 6       

Religion – Students will continue learning about Isaiah and take a test on the chapter, and they will begin to learn about Jeremiah. English – Students will study a new set of vocabulary words. Reading – Students will finish reading The Giver and be assessed. Science – Students will continue unit 6 Matter. They will be distinguishing between pure substances and compounds. Math (Martin) – The students will be converting customary and metric units. Math (Sanvido) – Students will finish studying area, volume, and surface area culminating in a test at the end of the week. Social Studies – Students will start our unit on Early African Empires.

Grade 7       

Religion – The students will begin learning about the Beatitudes. English – Students will continue a grammar unit on modifiers. Reading – Students will be reading and analyzing poetry. Science – Students will be describing how natural processes change ecosystems and help them develop after a natural disturbance. Math (Martin) – The students will continue to learn about probability. Math (Poux) – Students will be converting fractions, decimals and percents. They will learn about sales tax and commission. Social Studies – Students will continue our study of American Government.

Grade 8       

Religion – The students will continue to learn about the history of the early church. English – Not Submitted Reading – Not Submitted Science – Students will be describing the relationship between magnetism and electricity and how the relationship between the two affects the world. Math (Martin) – The students will continue to learn about linear equations. Math (Poux) – Students will continue working with functions. Social Studies – Students will study the conclusion of World War II.
