Dear Castelar families, It is hard to believe we are in the fourth quarter and students are still hard at work. This is a busy month for Castelar so please read your newsletter carefully. This month, students in grades 3-5 will continue taking our much anticipated, Nebraska State Assessment in reading (NeSA-R) and math (NeSA-M) and our fifth grade students will take the NeSA Science test. As mentioned in previous newsletters our students and teachers have been working very hard preparing for these assessments. Students continue to make us proud by setting and achieving goals in preparation for these assessments. We are confident they have the necessary tools to succeed! Please make sure to check your child’s agenda with important testing dates. Your final words of encouragement will help your student achieve their final goal for the 2015-16 school year. We cannot forget our K-2 students and teachers who will also be busy this month! Students will be taking individualized assessments based on literacy and math skills. These assessments are also very important as they give us valuable information for future focus areas. Your final boost of confidence will help them succeed!

If you child has medication at school for asthma, food allergy, or any other reason, 4:25 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. medication can remain at school until your student’s last day of this current 2015-16 school year. If your student will attend Summer School, medications need to be picked Saturday, May 7 up at the end of Summer School. If your child will not be in Summer School, medication Cinco de Mayo Parade & should be picked up on the last day of school in May. Notes will go home to remind Castelar School Carnival families of this.





Omaha Public School begins the next school year with the strict requirement that parents bring in a new physician order for asthma, food allergy, and medication plans with the start of each new school year in August 2016. The current 2015-16 school year concludes at the end of Summer School and the record is wiped clean. Please keep this in mind when making Summer appointments for your student. The nurse will send forms home before the end of the school year.

¡Un Mensaje de Su Directora! Queridas familias de Castelar, Es difícil de creer que ya estamos en el ultimo trimestre del año escolar y los estudiantes siguen trabajando mucho. Este mes estara muy ocupado para Castelar asi que lea su boletín con cuidado. Este mes, los estudiantes en los grados 3-5 tomaran el examen estatal (Nebraska State Assessment) en lectura (NeSA-R) y matemáticas (NeSA-M). Los estudiantes de 5to grado también tomaran un examen en ciencias (NeSA Science). Como se ha mencionado en boletines anteriores nuestros estudiantes y maestros continúan trabajando muy duro para prepararse para estos exámenes. Estamos muy orgullosos de los estudiantes ya que continúan estableciendo y superando metas en preparación para estos exámenes. Estamos seguros de que tienen la herramienta necesaria para tener éxito! Por favor, asegúrese de revisar la agenda de su hijo con fechas exactas de estos exámenes importantes. Sus ultimas palabras de aliento le ayudaran a su estudiante cumplir su ultima meta para el año escolar 2015-16. No podemos olvidarnos de nuestros estudiantes y maestros en los grados K- 2 que también estarán ocupado este mes! Cada estudiante tomará evaluaciones individuales basadas en las habilidades de alfabetización y matemáticas. Estas evaluaciones también son muy importantes ya que nos dan información valiosa para futuras áreas de enfoque. Nuevamente su palabras de aliento serán importantes para dar la confianza necesaria de lograr éxito! Varios estudiantes fueron recomendados para que participen en nuestra escuela de verano a partir del 1 de junio hasta el 28 de junio. Si su hijo tiene medicamentos en la escuela de asma, alergia alimentaria o cualquier otra razón, los medicamentos pueden permanecer en escuela hasta el último día de clases de este año escolar 2015-16. Si su hijo va a asistir a la escuela de verano, entonces los medicamentos pueden ser recogidos antes que se termine la escuela de verano. Si su hijo no va a asistir a la escuela de verano, los medicamentos deben recogerse el último día de clases en mayo. Vamos a mandar una nota para recordar a las familias. Las Escuelas Públicas de Omaha comienzan el próximo año escolar con requisitos muy estrictos que los padres tienen que presentar, especialmente una nueva orden del médico para el asma, la alergia alimentaria y planes de medicamentos para el nuevo año escolar en agosto 2016. El año escolar 2015-16 concluye al final de la escuela de verano y el archivo de su estudiante con la enfermera se expira y se borra. Por favor tenga esto en mente al hacer citas de verano para su hijo. La enfermera le enviará formularios antes del final del año escolar.

Traffic Flow We need your help in ensuring ALL Castelar students and families are safe at dismissal time each day. Please follow the guidelines below: • Be sure to follow the directions of the staff members and safety patrol who direct traffic. • Do NOT double park or encourage your child to walk between cars. • All traffic should enter eastbound on 18th & Martha Street. • Do NOT load students on Martha Street or Castelar Street. • Do NOT turn left (westbound) on 18th & Martha. • Drive SLOWLY on all streets around the school. • Be nice & courteous to everyone. • Walk as a family if you live close by. We all want the same thing…a SAFE dismissal for everyone! Thank you for your patience and for following the directions and procedures at dismissal time.

Parent Right To Know Clause At the beginning of the school year, any District that accepts Title 1, Part A funding must notify parents that they can request information regarding their child’s teacher and his/her qualifications, including certification and endorsements. Parents can also request information about paraprofessionals working with their children. Nebraska requires that Title 1 schools must also provide each parent a timely notice that their child has been assigned, or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not No Child Left Behind qualified.

Gym Shoes Now that snowy weather is here we realize that boots are being worn to school, but tennis shoes are still needed for gym class. Please, if your child wears boots to school, put their tennis shoes in their backpack. For safety reasons tennis shoes must be worn in gym class. Thank you for your support.

Panera Bread

Instead of throwing away their bread that did not sell, Panera Bakery donates it to non-profit agencies. We are so lucky that we are one of these agencies. Every Monday this bread is available in the Family Room (Mr. Vega’s office).

Panera Bread En lugar de tirar el pan que no se vendió, la panadería Panera ofrece donaciones a organizaciones sin fines de lucro. Nosotros somos afortunados de ser una de estas organizaciones. Todos los lunes este pan está disponible en el salón familiar (Oficina de Sr. Vega).
