The two widows who appear in today's readings have in common more than her widowhood. In both shine generosity, the ability to risk something in the name of God, and to see beyond what our eyes reach. Faith extends sight, because the sight of the body reaches only to say: "The flour is almost gone" or "I just have two coins." Faith instead sees the Owner of the flour is also my Lord, and the God of all wealth is receiving my alms. The lack of generosity is actually a form of spiritual blindness, and can only be corrected when the eyes are operated on so that they can see not only the flour that is running low but to see the blessings that will come. Today we also find a thoughtful Jesus, who is attentive to everything that comes from the generous heart. Jesus looks into our life and rewards us with mercy, but he also calls us to let go; not only to give material things, but also spiritual gifts. Let us give time for love and brotherhood, give skills, be generous with those who suffer. May our offering be not to impress others, but may it please God, because it comes from the heart. Lord teach us to give without hesitation, to give what you've given us, may the heart be transformed every day. Make us obedient to your Word and commandments: may your compassion be our compassion. Let us ask ourselves today: • What spiritual goods and material goods have I received from God? • How do I put these assets to the service of others? • Have I given from the heart and of my needs to help others?

VOCATION REFLECTION The widow in today’s Gospel experienced a miracle of trust. Trust the Lord; then watch for the miracle of plenty in your life. If it is in the form of a vocation to priesthood or religious life, call the Director of Vocations, Archdiocesan Center at St. Thomas Seminary, Tel. 860-242-5573, email [email protected] or visit the web at www.vocationshartford.org. “We must empty Purgatory with our prayers” St. Padre Pio

Preguntémonos hoy: ¿Qué bienes espirituales y materiales he recibido de Dios?

Sharing the Gospel God wants us to be humble, and he wants us to share our blessings. So many people Jesus met were proud, and they thought they deserved special treatment. Other people were rich, but they took what they wanted first and gave God what was left. The poor widow in today's Gospel got it right. She quietly gave to God all she had.

Prayer Dear God, help me to quietly give you the best of all that you have given me.

Something to Draw Draw a picture of the poor widow who trusted God with her whole heart.

Mission for the Week If you have a piggy bank, take money out and give it to God next Sunday. Shhhh! Remember to give it to God quietly. ©2008 - LPiResourceCenter.com
