Like us today! peddlerads.com 7 Thursday Astronomy Night on the Refuge Join us for a night on the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge as we present a Refuge Discovery Series program focusing on Astronomy. On Saturday October 15th at 6:30 pm members of the West Kentucky Amateur Astronomers will bring their telescopes to lead an informative program about the night sky. This night of family fun is free and will be held outdoors on the back patio of the new refuge visitor center. Due to its remote locations the refuge provides a perfect spot to see the stars with limited light pollution. It is also a special privilege to visit the refuge at night, since the refuge is normally a day use only facility. The program will NOT be held if overcast or rainy conditions prevail. The refuge staff and volunteers will have their visitor center and Blue Heron Bookstore open before the program beginning at 6:30 pm to give visitors a chance to explore our state of the art exhibit hall. On the back patio a warm fire will be on hand to help with the chill of a fall night and to add to the ambiance of a fun evening overlooking a beautiful bay of Kentucky Lake. For those beginning astronomy, if you wish to bring your own telescope, come a bit early to meet and discuss equipment. The Refuge Visitor Center is located at 1371 Wildlife Drive in Springville, or 7 miles off highway 79 North of Paris. Turn right onto Oak Grove Road South and follow the directional signs. TN SCTP Recruiting Day in Huntingdon TTennessee Wildlife Federation’s Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is hosting 4th through 12th graders on October 8th in Huntingdon, TN at the Carroll County Shooting Sports Park, to try shooting sports. This free recruiting day will introduce the youth to the world of shotgun shooting and get them connected to a team in their area. SCTP teaches the importance of safe firearms handling, responsibility, leadership, teamwork, and promotes healthy competition. No previous experience is needed. Beginners will be guided through proper firearm safety and receive instruction from a highly-trained coach before having the chance to hit a few practice targets on their own. Interested youth must have a legal guardian present to participate. Safety equipment will be provided for each participant. Lakewood Games To Be Played At Grove Until New Bleachers Installed Lakewood School officials are happy to announce that the Lakewood Eagles’ gym is getting new bleachers along with its new gym floor. Installation of the bleachers was to have happened over Fall break, but due to a construction delay, the installation now will be over Thanksgiving break. Grove Principal Tim Mason has graciously allowed the use of the Grove School gym floor for the five games before Thanksgiving break. Grove School will be the location for the games on October 18, 24, 27, November 1 and 15.
