31th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Happy Halloween or Happy Hallow-Evening! Tomorrow's night will be the Halloween, so happy Halloween to all. By the way, do you know where and what does the word Halloween came from and what does it mean? The word Halloween has its origin from Gaelic. "Halloween" simply means "Hallow-Evening." This was used to commemorate all the souls of the dead, in which many are holy; the word "hallow" means "holy." The latter part of it, is "evening." Evening is the vigil celebration of the "day of the dead" or "All Souls" day. In Spain and Latin America countries; they call November 1st and 2nd as the "Dia de los muertos" or the day of the dead; it associates with what we are celebrating on October 31st or Halloween. How do we celebrate? Here, we usually dress up as something that is awful and disguise ourselves to look like "ghosts" or the likes. There is nothing holy about it. However, the Spaniard and Latin American celebrate this differently. They would go dress up with costumes to disguise themselves as the dead; in addition, they would go to the cemetery to commemorate and pray for the souls of the dead; particularly, their family members. We don't often pay attention to the ideas behind our celebrations. Sometime, we allow our culture and family to infiltrate our heart and mind with different ideologies. This Halloween, I would like to invite you to look at it differently; consider ourselves as the "hallowed" and have your children be dressed with costumes that portrays the holiness of the Hallow-Evening.

31th Sunday in Ordinary Time
