GOD’S GIFT OF FORGIVENESS

EL REGALO DEL PERDÓN DE DIOS

As Faith Formation classes begin for our young people today, we recall that “Teaching about God’s Gift of Forgiveness” is the theme for this year’s Catechetical Sunday.

Hoy, con el inicio de las clases de Formación de Fe, recordamos que “Enseñar sobre el regalo del Perdón de Dios” es el tema de este año del Domingo Catequético.

We may have memories of the first time we heard the parable of the Prodigal Son. We hear the invitation to regular and frequent celebration of the sacrament of Penance. We participate in a Penitential Rite at every Mass. The theme of this year’s Catechetical Sunday reminds us that one of the first lessons we learn in our religious education is the message that God is Love, and God is all merciful. Let us remember today all those who will prepare this year to celebrate their First Reconciliation. Let us respond to God’s invitation to experience His love on the many occasions he waits to meet us in the sacrament of Penance. And let us also frequently forgive and seek forgiveness from one another. In these ways, we will bear witness to the fact that we have received in our own faith formation the “Teaching about God’s Gift of Forgiveness.”

Quizás recordamos la primera vez que escuchamos la parábola del Hijo Prodigo. Escuchamos la invitación al sacramento de la Confesión de manera regular y frecuente. En cada Misa, participamos en un Rito Penitencial. El tema de este año del Domingo Catequético nos recuerda que una de las primeras lecciones que aprendemos en nuestra educación religiosa es que Dios es Amor, y Dios es misericordioso. Recordemos a quienes este año se prepararán para recibir su Primera Confesión. Que contestemos la invitación de Dios de experimentar Su amor en las muchas ocasiones que espera encontrarnos en el sacramento de la Confesión. También, que podamos perdonar con frecuencia y buscar el perdón entre nosotros. De esta manera, seremos testigos de que en nuestra formación de fe recibimos las “Enseñanzas sobre el Regalo del Perdón de Dios.”

Try to bring a more regular prayer schedule to your home: • Say a blessing at breakfast, or a brief morning prayer as kids head out for the bus. • Pray with your children as you tuck them in, making the prayer personal and about the day’s events. • Make a resolve this fall to bring Christ more prominently into your family’s daily routine. Make the stewardship of your faith and family a commitment as autumn brings a sense of renewal.

EL DOMINGO, DÍA DEL SEÑOR Todo el año litúrgico está marcado por el ritmo regular de los domingos que se suceden, durante el año. ¿Pero por qué el día domingo? La respuesta encuentra sus raíces profundas en el Nuevo Testamento. Según el testimonio concordado de los Evangelios, en el “primer día después del sábado” el Señor resucita y se aparece ante a las mujeres y después a los discípulos. Ese mismo día Jesús se manifiesta a los discípulos de Emaús y después a los once apóstoles y les dona el Espíritu Santo. Ocho días después, el Resucitado encuentra nuevamente a los suyos. Era aún domingo cuando cincuenta días después de la resurrección, el Espíritu Santo, bajo la forma de un “viento impetuoso” y “fuego” se infunde en los apóstoles reunidos en el Cenáculo. En el Apocalipsis encontramos el nuevo nombre que se le da al “primer día después del sábado”. Ese es “el día del Señor”, en latín dies dominicus del cual viene el nombre “domingo”.
