Thank you very much for your generous donations which you gave on the weekend of (Aug. 17th & 18th) for our Primary school in Dodoma, Tanzania. I have no words which could express my gratitude for your unique generosity. May the Lord bless you abundantly. These donations will help us to give our children a good education with Catholic values. I hope these children will offer good leadership which is needed in Tanzania and Africa in general. As I told you, Africa is the poorest continent in the world because of poor leadership. On behalf of the students, teachers, parents, parishioners and Jesuit Fathers in Dodoma I thank you for your love, generosity and kindness. Thank you for empowering our children through education. Each day we will remember you in our humble prayers. May the Lord bless your families with joy and good health. We welcome you to visit with us in Tanzania. Fr. Gaspar Sunhwa, SJ

Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made; For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (all bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

XXII Domingo

Aclamación del Evangelio

Page 5

Estrofas:

1. Por tu inmensa gloria te alabamos, te bendecimos, te adoramos, te glorificamos, te damos gracias, Señor. (a Estrofa 2) 2. Señor Dios, Rey celestial, Dios Padre todopoderoso. Señor Hijo único, Jesucristo, Señor Dios, Cordero de Dios, tú, el Hijo del Padre. (Estribillo) 3. (a Estrofa 4)

(Estribillo) Misa Luna. Peter Kolar. Text ©1978, Comisión Episcopal de Liturgia Music ©1998. World Library Publications. All rights reserved.

Pastor’s Page Page #7 Death XXI At a Catholic funeral the casket is covered with a large white cloth called a “Pall” — making us all equal in death. It often is left open at the vigil, however. The Pall also symbolizes the baptismal white garment; other signs of baptism are placed on the casket: a cross, and the Book of the Gospels. The family can participate by placing these “Christian signs.” Communion is the best way to “remember” to connect “Do this in memory of me” with the deceased’s memory. Most priests these days include some personal elements in the homily, but the Mass is not chiefly a remembrance of details of the deceased’s life, but a prayer in which the people of God place the memory of the deceased into the larger context of the life, death and resurrection of Christ. The Mass is principally a proclamation and participation in Christ’s resurrection, juxtaposing an individual life with that of Jesus. Still personal remembrances are appropriate, and even when the priest did not know the deceased, we usually meet with the family to gain some insight into their character and manner of life. For me personally the Mass is the place where I can place my memory of the dead into the hands of Christ so that as I eat and drink with Jesus in His Kingdom, I am eating and drinking in the company of the deceased. Certainly the Catholic context of placing our life and death in relation to the death of Jesus and his self-sharing in Communion makes sense out of what otherwise might not make any sense at all. IHM Pray for us. Fr. Stewardship Corner In the gospel today, Jesus warns us not to give in hopes of repayment, but to give open-handedly to the poor and needy. That sort of giving mirrors the bountiful giving of God, and Jesus assures us it is blessed indeed! SCHEDULE OF SECOND COLLECTIONS
