A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family, Last week John, Feargal, Emily and I attended our final meeting of Parish Catalyst. We have gone four times over the past two years, with the goal of getting the millennials back to church. The major change in the church is that it was formerly heavily populated by 25 to 45 year old parents with school aged children. Now they go on a basis of 1 of 3, 2 of 5 or 1 of 4 times a month. This has been the trend for the last 15 years that we are now having to address. The major finding is that we need to be authentic. This means people need to experience God in their interactions with people in the church at Mass. We make numerous judgments from our interactions of feeling wanted or welcomed. Do we smile or wave to the family with little children and enjoy them or do we sigh and look like we wish they would have stayed home? Over the past 15 years we emphasized the catechism, but somehow forgot the golden rule. We need to start with the golden rule and move forward. We also have to be more intentional and use your time better, while making our activities more accessible. The other phenomenon I need to bring your attention to is the number of people over 55 and retiring who are leaving the State of Illinois. We have lost at least five couples that I am aware of in the last month or so. These are people who have volunteered for years and been strong stewards of their resources. Our collection is down, so we will study this and figure out what we need to do in the future. I bring you these issues in a calm fashion not to be negative, but to be realistic. There will need to be some changes as we move forward. Have a Blessed Week! Father Paul

Your Gifts Provide a Bridge of Help to Needy Having an apartment or house to come home to after working all day is something many of us take for granted. For a young single resident, his car has become his home. This young man is saving up for a security deposit for his own apartment, but meanwhile has nowhere to shower and rarely gets a hot meal. A visiting Vincentian brought a bag of ready-to-eat meals, filled his car with gas and provided local resources where he can get a daily shower and where he can get a hot meal on various days of the week. Your donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society Poor Box help make this assistance possible. Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor. Proverbs 22:9

Support Walk for Catholic Education The McHenry Catholic Order of Foresters is sponsoring a walk to assist Montini Catholic School with painting of portions of the schools and parents in paying the tuition costs for a Catholic Education at Montini. Several areas of the school are in need of fresh paint and currently the funds to do so are not available for this work. Also, tuition costs for a Catholic education have risen and enrollment has decreased. Our goal is to help lower income families afford a Catholic education for their children. The Walk is on Saturday, October 15, with registration at 8 AM and the walk at 9 AM. It is a 3 mile walk beginning at Shamrock Farm Park, 6402 Dartmoor Dr. , McHenry. A one mile walk is also available. All entrants are asked to raise a minimum of $10 to be eligible for the walk. All funds raised are due at registration with checks payable to "COF". Registration and a pledge form is available online at www.cof594.com and also on Page 10 of this bulletin. The walk is open to adults and children who raise a minimum of $10. Teams are also welcome with a minimum per team of $50 for six or more walkers. 100% of the funds raised will go directly to Montini for the two needs listed above. The Catholic Order of Foresters' home office will match $1 for $1 the first $1,000 we raise and $.50 for each of the next $1,000 we raise.
