rom the Faith Formation Office…
This Sunday, September 18 is Catechetical Sunday! All Baptized Catholics are called to be catechists; to echo God’s word. Parents have an important role in building a strong foundation in the faith in the home; the Domestic Church. Catechists who volunteer in Faith Formation are instrumental in passing on the faith to the children in our parish. I am grateful for all that they do to pass on the faith to the little ones, the Confirmation Candidates and those in between. Please pray for our catechist team along with the children and families of our parish. Catechists, helpers, and hall monitors are still needed in Faith Formation on Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you are interested in sharing your faith with young people, please call Carlo at the Faith Formation office. Faith Formation classes will meet again this week at 6pm Wednesday, September 21 and Thursday September 22!

As many of you know, a satisfying marriage has huge benefits for your overall health and happiness, for the security of your children and the welfare of the community. Like anything of real value, a successful marriage requires a conscious commitment to give the relationship the time, interest and effort it needs to remain strong. Part of that effort is taking the time to learn new insights and skills that have been proven to make marriages last. This “Partners on the Journey” enrichment series is intended to offer you these insights and skills. If you are newly married or married fifty years, you can been benefit from this program.
This program attempts to combine a Catholic Christian understanding of marriage with practical knowledge gained in the research in the social sciences. It is meant to both inspire and equip couples to form more stable and satisfying relationships. It is designed to nourish couples spiritually, intellectually and emotionally. Each meeting will begin with an opening prayer, a warm up question related to the theme of the session, a video presentation, followed by an exercise to integrate the content of the presentation, a suggestion for homework, and a closing prayer. Each participant will have a booklet, which contains session materials and each couple will receive a copy of John Gottman’s The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. Our first meeting will be on Friday September 22nd at 7 pm in the St Francis room of the Parish center. This would be a great “Date Night”, one that can enhance your marriage and make it thrive. Please call Deacon Phil at 630 651-9190 if you plan to attend.

“We need a Church unafraid of going forth into their night. We need a Church capable of meeting them on their way. We need a Church capable of entering into their conversation. We need a Church able to dialogue with those disciples who, having left Jerusalem behind, are wandering aimlessly, alone, with their own disappointment, disillusioned by a Christianity now considered barren, fruitless soil, incapable of generating meaning.” — Pope Francis, July 27, 2013, Meeting with the Bishops of Brazil
Greetings fellow Disciples of Christ,
We pray that the warmth of God’s love for all of us is represented by the wonderful summer weather we are sharing. We are starting the fall season but we are already seeing Christmas in stores letting us know that time is always moving. Our Parish Council sent out a survey to the leaders of our parish asking questions about their groups, goals, and achievements. We are now inviting all leaders of ministries, committees and groups to please attend the next meeting of the 2016/2017 year on Tuesday September 27 at 7pm in room 5 of the education building. If you are not able to attend this meeting please send a representative so your group will be heard from. If you are interested and not currently involved, attending these open meetings could help inform your ideas. We are looking to help. There are ideas and events that are happening around the Diocese and Deanery that are formative and fun that your ministry at another church could be sponsoring and your group might not even know about. We have plans to help grow our community as well as engage those who only attend Sundays that we want to share. We are also looking for help. We need new leadership, volunteers and ways to serve each other as well as the world. Please help us keep growing the Kingdom of God here at St. Joseph so all can see and feel His Love. Any questions call the Parish office or Sue Kopecky at 630/279-5414 or
[email protected]. We look forward to meeting and seeing you on September 27th. Gods peace be with all.

Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time – 18 September 2016 Not enough. A personal relationship with God is important. But it is not enough. Not if we listen well to the spoken Word of God. From Amos and the People of the Old Testament, we learn this: do not be greedy, do not cheat, do not beat down the poor. From Luke, we learn this: own your possessions and use them for good. Do not let them own you. Do not – because we are mere stewards of what belongs to another. It really all belongs to God the Creator of all. If I look at all I have, what can I give away? How will I serve God by serving others? This week, I will _________________________.
Thank you to all who have so generously supported the pantry.
