November 08, 2015 Thoughts from our Pastor Rev. John P. Broheimer On Monday, 9 November the whole Church celebrates the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome. This is the day celebrating one of the oldest churches in the world, 1,700 years old, and it’s the Cathedral of the Pope. The Basilica of St. Peter is much bigger, more famous, and in the Vatican itself, but the actual Cathedral of the Pope, the Cathedral of the Vicar of Christ, is St. John Lateran. We aren’t celebrating so much a building on Monday, but what the building stands for. As we celebrate St. John Lateran Cathedral, we’re actually celebrating ourselves, the Church on Earth, the Church Militant. Often enough the Church in her wisdom celebrates important days either one day apart or one week apart. Last week we first honored the Church in Heaven on All Saints Day, and the very next day, All Souls Day, we prayed for the Church in Purgatory, and now we have a feast for the Church on Earth - one week later.

XXXII Sunday of Ordinary Time even it was in need of purification. Each one of us needs to strive for holiness as members of the Church. We need to do our part for this time of history to build up the Church, make her strong and faithful to her Lord. Even though All Saints Day and All Souls Day are very important, let’s not forget on this Feast of our Cathedral in Rome that we are an important part in the Body of Christ along with the Saints in Heaven and the Poor Souls in Purgatory. Let’s thank God for that gift of being members of his Body, the Church. Gratitude Father Carl and I would like to express our gratitude to the people of the parish who very kindly prepared and brought home-cooked welcome meals to the Rectory over the past two months as a way to welcome Father Carl and myself to St. Peter Parish. One of the best ways to welcome someone is with a delicious meal, and we certainly feel welcomed! Every meal was outstanding and your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated. The meals were obviously made with great love for the Priesthood of Jesus Christ. Special thanks to Diane Leuck who coordinated this meals ministry as well as preparing special meals herself. God bless all who cooked, delivered and helped with the welcome meals. Safe Environment Training in English Archdiocese of Omaha Safe Environment training in English will be offered on Friday, November 20 from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm in St. Peter’s McMahon Hall. Computer Advice Needed If there are any parishioners who are able to help occasionally with advice about computers for St. Peter’s parish office it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Fr. Going to Rome and visiting this beautiful church one gains a sense of the permanency and hardiness of Catholicism. The Catholic Church has been around for a long time, and it will be around for a lot longer. No matter how hard the world has tried (or ourselves in our own sins), it hasn’t been able to destroy the temple of the Church. That’s not because of anything we have done. In fact, if it was all truly left up to us, Christianity wouldn’t have lasted more than a few years if that. We should have deep confidence that the Lord is with us as we journey through history. Being indestructible doesn’t mean, though, that the Church isn’t in need constant purification. The Temple in the Gospel was the place where God dwelled among the Jews, but

XXXII Domingo de Tiempo Ordinario

En toda la Iglesia el lunes 09 de noviembre celebramos la fiesta de la Dedicación de la Basílica de Letrán en Roma. Este es el día para celebrar una de las iglesias más antiguas del mundo, de 1.700 años de edad, y la iglesia es la Catedral del Papa.

Agradecimiento De parte de Padre Gregory Carl y yo muchísimas gracias a todas las feligreses que cocinaron comidas para nosotros sacerdotes por los dos meses pasados. El ministerio de cenas para los sacerdotes era una manera especial para dar la bienvenida al Padre Gregory y yo, y todas las comidas eran muy sabrosas. Bien las comidas eran preparados con gran amor del Sacerdocio de Jesucristo. Especialmente damos gracias a Diane Leuck, la coordinadora de las comidas. Que Dios les bendiga a todas que han preparado y ayudado con las comidas!

La Basílica de San Pedro es mucho más grande, más famoso, y dentro de la ciudad del Vaticano, pero la catedral real del Papa, la Catedral del Vicario de Cristo, es San Juan de Letrán. No estamos celebrando solamente un edificio el lunes, pero lo de que significa este edificio. Al celebrar la fiesta de la Catedral de San Juan de Letrán en realidad estamos celebrando a nosotros mismos, la Iglesia en la Tierra, la Iglesia militante.

También un agradecimiento especial a Cathy Hula, que ha creado y enviado horarios por los monaguillos por muchos años. Ella ahora está entrenando a la Señora Gretchen Smith, que se ha ofrecido amablemente a preparar los horarios en el futuro. La Señora Hula seguirá ayudando con eventos especiales. Su servicio alegre ha sido muy valioso a nuestro párroco anterior, Padre Cook y para mí mismo y el Padre Carl, también.

Con bastante frecuencia la Iglesia en su sabiduría celebra días importantes. La semana pasada honramos la Iglesia en el Cielo en el Día de Todos los Santos, y al día siguiente, el Día de los Difuntos, oramos por la Iglesia del Purgatorio, y ahora, una semana después, tenemos una fiesta para la Iglesia en la Tierra.

Curso Felipe La Escuela de Evangelización Santa Ana les hacemos la invitación a vivir el Curso Felipe este noviembre 21 y 22 en el gimnasio de la Escuela San Pedro. El curso es un requisito por los padres de niños en catecismo. El Curso Felipe está diseñado para ayudarles a experimentar el Amor de Dios Padre, a tener un encuentro o reencuentro personal con Jesús y a renovar la presencia del Espíritu Santo en sus vidas. Después de vivir el Curso Felipe ustedes podrán vivir muchos cursos más, ya que el Curso Felipe sirve como la base principal para todos los cursos. Empezamos el sábado de 8:00 am a 6:00 pm, y el domingo de 8:00 am a 4:00 pm. Habrá cuidado de niños, venta de comida y venta de Biblias y libros religiosos. Los esperamos en el gimnasio de la Escuela de San Pedro. Es requisito vivir los dos días enteros. Favor regístrense lo más pronto posible. Cuando visitando a Roma y a esta hermosa iglesia se gana un sentido de la permanencia y la resistencia del Catolicismo. La Iglesia Católica ha sido aquí durante mucho tiempo, y será aquí durante mucho más tiempo. No importa lo mucho que el mundo ha intentado (o nosotros mismos en nuestros propios pecados), no ha sido capaz de derribar el templo de la Iglesia. Eso no es por nada que hemos hecho. De hecho, si todo estaba realmente dejado a nosotros, el Cristianismo no habría durado más de unos pocos años o menos. Debemos tener profunda confianza de que el Señor está con nosotros en nuestra peregrinación en la tierra a través de la toda nuestra historia. Ser indestructible no significa, sin embargo, que la Iglesia no está en necesidad de purificación constante. El templo en el Evangelio era el lugar donde Dios habitó entre los Judíos, pero incluso que estaba en necesidad de purificación. Cada uno de nosotros como miembros de la Iglesia, tiene que luchar por la santidad. Tenemos que hacer nuestra parte para edificar la Iglesia en esta época de la historia, para hacerla fuerte y fiel a su Señor. XXXII Sunday of Ordinary Time Sacramental Preparation and Devotions Baptism and Godparent Requirements Parents of children who are six years of age or younger and in need of Baptism must be registered, active parishioners of St. Peter for at least two months. Godparents take on serious obligations when they sponsor a person for Baptism and they should be virtuous and faithful Catholics. Godparents must be 16 years old or more, fully initiated, practicing Catholics; if married, godparents must be married in the Catholic Church. Baptisms may be scheduled only after the parents and godparents have completed the requisite classes and the parish office receives a letter from the parish at which the godparents belong stating that the godparents are in good standing with the Catholic Church and are eligible to be sponsors. Parents and sponsors must attend a Baptismal class before the Baptism. Classes in English usually are offered on the fourth Sundays of March, June, September and December from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required. Baptisms in English are usually offered on the second Sunday of the month at 2:30 p.m. and on the fourth Saturday of the month at 9:00 a.m. For more information, please call the parish office at 402-341-4560, ext 100. Catechism Sacramental Preparation for Children The catechism school year goes from September through May of each year. Registrations began in May for the next school year. Classes are held on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon, or Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Children should be registered and attend classes for at least two years before receiving sacraments. Home School Sacramental Preparation Families who are preparing their children at home to receive a sacrament this year should register at the catechism office by September 6, 2014. If your child will be receiving a sacrament this school year or the following year, please register during Catechism and Homeschool registration times posted in the bulletin. A Baptism certificate must be submitted. Adult Catechesis, RCIA Those over the age of seven who desire to become Catholic and/or receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation or Communion should contact Fr. Broheimer for classes in English, or Sister Clara for classes in Spanish. Classes on Catholic doctrine in English are offered weekly from September through May on Tuesdays from 7:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Classes in Spanish are offered on Mondays at 7:15 p.m. or at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend. Marriage Parishioners who are registered for a minimum of three months are eligible to begin marriage preparation at St. Peter. In addition, the Archdiocese requires a minimum of six months of preparation prior to your wedding date. To begin marriage preparation in English or Spanish, please contact the parish office. Hall Rentals Parishioners registered in St. Peter Parish for at least three months may rent the parish halls for receptions and events. XXXII Domingo de Tiempo Ordinario

Preparación Sacramental y Devociones Requisitos para Bautismo y Padrinos El Cursillo Pre-Bautismal para Padres y Padrinos es requerido para Bautismos. El cursillo es valido por tres años. Padres de niños que serán Bautizados deberán de registrarse, feligreses registrados y activos de la Parroquia de San Pedro por lo menos de dos meses. Los padrinos deberán de ser iniciados completamente, practicando el Catolicismo, asisten en Misa por lo menos de los domingos y días de guardar, y si están casados, deberán ser casados por la Iglesia Católica, y tienen 16 años o más. Los padrinos toman sobre sí unas obligaciones muy serias cuando apadrinan una persona para el bautismo y deben ser virtuosos y fieles católicos. Les queremos animar a seleccionar muy cuidadosamente los padrinos. Podrán fijar y pedir el día para los bautismos solamente después de que los papás y los padrinos hayan completado tres clases de requisito y después de que la oficina de la parroquia haya recibido de los padrinos una carta de la parroquia a donde pertenecen los padrinos, en la cual constatan que ellos están en el buen favor de la Iglesia Católica y que son aprobados para ser padrinos. Para padrinos casados, por favor llevar copia de la acta de Matrimonio por la Iglesia Católica. El cursillo Bautismal se ofrecen cada dos meses en tres domingos.
