Thoughts from our Pastor Rev. John P. Broheimer About a week before the Transfiguration, Jesus revealed to his disciples that he was going to go up to Jerusalem, suffer terribly, and would die at the hands of the Jewish leaders. For almost a week, they were weighed down with indescribable sorrow thinking about what Jesus’ said about his horrible death. That’s why Jesus, with such love and compassion brought Peter, James, and John up Mount Tabor with him. He wanted to give them a gift of great hope and insight. He wanted to give them something to help them stay strong through the events that were about to happen in his Passion and beyond. So for a few moments the three Apostles were able to see the glory of Jesus in the Transfiguration. Instead of the Transfiguration, we have another gift from God to recognize Jesus’ glorious presence with us: the gift of faith. Through faith, we know Christ is present to us even in ordinary ways: at church, in our families, in our work, in our play, in our struggles and disappointments, in our joys and successes. He doesn’t show himself to us like he did with Peter, James, and John, but we can see his presence among us if we look with the eyes of faith. We find him especially in the Eucharist. In the same way that the splendor of his Divinity was hidden within Jesus until the Transfiguration, all the power and glory of Jesus is hidden in the Most Blessed Sacrament. Faith alone reveals his glorious True Presence to us. Like Peter, James, and John, when our eyes are opened to the Lord’s True Presence in our lives, we are left nearly speechless and in awe of his goodness and closeness to us. EPS Baby Bottles This Lent, St. Peter parish again has the opportunity to support Essential Pregnancy Services in their ministry of helping women to embrace life for their unborn babies. Please open your hearts to these unborn babies to help these precious gifts from God. Please take a baby bottle found at the Church entrances, fill it with prayer pledges, coins, bills or a check. Please return bottles by Palm Sunday, March 20. 40 Days for Life 40 Days for Life is a campaign to save the lives of unborn babies from abortion. Each church will adopt a weekly hour for the six-week campaign, from Feb. 10 through Mar. 20. St. Peter Church parishioners are asked to pray weekly from noon to 1 pm on Fridays at Abortion & Contraception Clinic of NE (1002 W. Mission Ave., Bellevue); and on Thursdays at Planned Parenthood (3105 N. 93 St., Omaha). Please

Lenten Schedule Abstinence and Fasting All Catholics 14 years of age and older are required to refrain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday and every Friday in Lent as a sacrificial penance. All Catholics aged 18 to 59 are required to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fasting includes one regular meal plus two small meals per day, with no food in between the meals. Dispensations for reasons of health or nursing may be given, but you must speak with Fr. Broheimer.

The Light is On Thursday Evening Confessions

The Sacrament of Penance is offered on the Thursdays of Lent through March 17 from 5:30 pm-7:00 pm (English/ Spanish). Confessions are also offered during our regular weekly schedule: Saturdays 4:00 pm-4:45 pm, and half an hour before each Mass. Do not wait until Holy Week for Confession. Stations of the Cross Fridays from February 12 to March 18 Walk with Jesus and Mary as He carries the Cross from Jerusalem to Mount Golgotha. Stations of the Cross are offered at 5:30 pm in English (with Eucharistic Benediction), and at 7:00 pm in Spanish. A plenary indulgence may be granted under the usual conditions.

Año Jubilar de la Misericordia

Pensamientos de Nuestro Párroco Rev. John P. Broheimer Aproximadamente una semana antes de la Transfiguración, Jesús reveló a sus discípulos que iría a Jerusalén, sufriría terriblemente, y que moriría en manos de los líderes Judíos. Por casi una semana los discípulos les mortificaban pensar que Jesús sufriría una muerte infame. Fue por esta razón que Jesús llevó consigo con tanto amor y compasión a Pedro, Santiago y a Juan a la cumbre del Monte Tabor. Quería concederles el don de la esperanza y perspicacia. Quería darles algo que les ayudaría a mantenerse firmes durante los acontecimientos futuros que estaban por suceder en su Pasión y los eventos posteriores, de manera que los Apóstoles pudieron contemplar por unos momentos la gloria de Jesús en la Transfiguración. En lugar de la Transfiguración, nosotros tenemos otro don de Dios para reconocer la presencia gloriosa de Jesús entre nosotros: el don de la fe. A través de la fe, sabemos que Cristo está presente entre nosotros aun en medio de las realidades comunes: en la iglesia, con la familia, mientras trabajamos, durante el recreo, en las luchas y las desilusiones, así como en las alegrías y los triunfos. No se manifiesta como lo hizo con Pedro, Santiago y Juan, pero llegamos a identificar su presencia entre nosotros si lo buscamos con ojos de fe. Lo encontramos especialmente en la Eucaristía. Así como el esplendor de su divinidad estaba oculto en Jesús hasta la transfiguración, todo su poder y gloria se oculta ahora en el Santísimo Sacramento. Es la fe la que nos revela realmente su verdadera Presencia. A ejemplo de los Apóstoles, Pedro, Santiago y Juan, cuando nuestra vista se esclarezca y reconozcamos la auténtica Presencia de Cristo en nuestras vidas cotidianas, entonces nos encontraremos casi enmudecidos y maravillados de su bondad y su cercanía con nosotros. Campaña de Botellas de Bebe Tenemos la oportunidad de apoyar a Servicios Esenciales del Embarazo en su ministerio de ayudar a mujeres a elegir vida para sus bebes aun no nacidos. Durante esta cuaresma pueden tomar una botella de bebe y llenarla con promesas de oración, dinero o cheque. Las botellas se encuentran en todas las entradas de la iglesia. Building Maintenance Collection On February 20 and 21 we will take up our monthly Building and Maintenance second collection to help defray the costs of maintaining our parish buildings. Please be generous.

Friday Eucharistic Exposition All-day Eucharistic Exposition is held on Fridays after the 8:00 am Mass and ends with Benediction at 6:00 pm. We are in need of adorers especially at 10:00 am, 2:00 pm, 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm. Please contact the parish office to sign up for an hour with Jesus.

March 10 - April 21: "Priest, Prophet, King" Catholic Bible Study St. Peter Catholic Church in Omaha will offer a six-part Catholic Bible study series with DVDs by Bishop Robert Barron. It will be held on Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm beginning March 10 (except Holy Thursday, March 23.) Please register through the parish office. The suggested study guide is $24.00. To buy the study guide through the parish office, please contact Mary in the parish office by Feb. 28. It may also be purchased at a local Catholic book store or online.

Eucharistic Miracles of the World The Vatican International Exhibit consisting of over 150 panels describing various Eucharistic miracles will be at St. Gerald Catholic Church, 9602 Q St., Ralston from Feb. 20-23. Sacramental Preparation and Devotions Baptism and Godparent Requirements Parents of children who are six years of age or younger and in need of Baptism must be registered, active parishioners of St. Peter for at least three months. Godparents take on serious obligations when they sponsor a person for Baptism and they should be virtuous and faithful Catholics. Godparents must be 16 years old or more, fully initiated, practicing Catholics; if married, godparents must be married in the Catholic Church. Baptisms may be scheduled only after the parents and godparents have completed the requisite classes and the parish office receives a letter from the parish at which the godparents belong stating that the godparents are in good standing with the Catholic Church and are eligible to be sponsors. Parents and sponsors must attend a Baptismal class before the Baptism. Classes in English usually are offered on the fourth Sundays of March, June, September and December from 3:00-5:00 pm. Pre-registration is required. Baptisms in English are usually offered on the second Sunday of the month at 2:30 pm and on the fourth Saturday of the month at 9:00 am. Registrations began in May for the next school year. Classes are held on Saturdays from 10:30 am to 12 noon, or Wednesdays from 5:30 pm to 7 pm. Children should be registered and attend classes for at least two years before receiving sacraments. Home School Sacramental Preparation Families who are preparing their children at home to receive a sacrament this year should register at the catechism office by September 1, 2015. If your child will be receiving a sacrament this school year or the following year, please register during Catechism and Homeschool registration times posted in the bulletin. A Baptism certificate must be submitted. Please see the parish website for requirements and important dates for First Reconciliation, First Communion or Confirmation: www.stpeterchurch.net/infosacraments.html. Adult Catechesis, RCIA Those over the age of seven who desire to become Catholic and/or receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation or Communion should contact Fr. Broheimer for classes in English, or Sister Clara for classes in Spanish. Classes on Catholic doctrine in English are offered weekly from September through May on Tuesdays from 7:15 pm to 8:45 pm. Classes in Spanish are offered on Mondays at 7:15 pm or at 10:30 am. All are welcome to attend. Marriage Parishioners who are registered for a minimum of six months are eligible to begin marriage preparation at St. Peter. In addition, the Archdiocese requires a minimum of six months of preparation prior to your wedding date. To begin marriage preparation in English or Spanish, please contact the parish office. Hall Rentals Parishioners registered in St. Peter Parish for at least three months may rent the parish halls for receptions and events. Preparación Sacramental y Devociones Requisitos para Bautismo y Padrinos El Cursillo Pre-Bautismal para Padres y Padrinos es requerido para Bautismos. Todo feligrés de San Pedro debe asistir en las platicas para Bautismos en San Pedro. (Si hay problema con el horario de las pláticas, favor comuníquese con Mary en la oficina parroquial al 402-341-4560, ext. 100.) Los padrinos de otras parroquias deben asistir en platicas en su parroquia propia, o presentar una carta de permiso de su párroco antes de asistir en las pláticas en San Pedro. El cursillo es valido por tres años. Padres de niños que serán Bautizados en la Iglesia de San Pedro deberán estar feligreses registrados y activos de la Parroquia de San Pedro por lo menos de tres meses. Padrinos deberán de ser iniciados completamente, practicando el Catolicismo, asistir en la Misa todo domingo y día de guardar, y si están casados, deberán ser casados por la Iglesia Católica, y tienen 16 años o más. Los padrinos toman sobre sí unas obligaciones muy serias cuando apadrinan una persona para el bautismo y deben ser virtuosos y fieles católicos. Les queremos animar a seleccionar muy cuidadosamente los padrinos. Podrán fijar y pedir el día para los bautismos solamente después de que los papás y los padrinos hayan completado tres clases de requisito y después de que la oficina de la parroquia haya recibido de los padrinos una carta de la parroquia a donde pertenecen los padrinos, en la cual constatan que ellos están en el buen favor de la Iglesia Católica y que son aprobados para ser padrinos. Para padrinos casados, por favor llevar copia de la acta de Matrimonio por la Iglesia Católica. El cursillo Bautismal se ofrecen cada dos meses en tres domingos.
