Pastor’s Notes Fr. Damien J. Cook
Christmas Generosity As the official Christmas season winds to a close today with the Solemnity of the Baptism of the Lord, I thought it would be a good time for you to see the effects of your goodness and generosity to the many seniors and families who participated in our 2014 Angel Tree. The results are inspiring and staggering. Thank you for being a parish and a people so loving to the less fortunate in our midst. I also want to thank all of the St. Vincent de Paul Society for overseeing this annual endeavor but in particular recognize parishioner Sonja Schreffler who organized almost every aspect of it this past year and gave countless hours to its execution. Thank you, Sonja, and to all of you. 2014 Angel Tree Giving Report How Many People Did We Help? • 73 seniors; • 28 homebound and nursing home parishioners; • 21 adults, and 39 children • 161 total (11 families and 2 single parishioners). How Much Did We Give? *Estimated value of gifts given to families: $11,552.00 *Estimated value of gifts given to Park East seniors and shut-ins: $3,843.00 Total Estimated Value of Donated Gifts: $15,395.00 Note: Values are estimated using discount store (i.e. Target) prices – though we know many items given are worth more according to brand or taking into account that many donors generously add extras to the gift. This method creates a more conservative estimate. Used items are calculated as such if identified as used. What Did We Give? Clothing: Winter coats for every child and some adults, scarves for every recipient (family and Park East), sweaters, shirts, pants, dresses, socks, underwear, shoes, boots,
The Baptism of the Lord pajamas, gloves, hats, mittens, blankets, gift cards for purchase of clothing. Household: Blankets, cloth grocery bags, storage containers, Christmas stockings, bath towels for every recipient (family and Park East), flashlights, kitchen gadgets, sheets, kitchen towels, dish cloths, baby gear, laundry detergent, and family cleaning supply kits including laundry detergent, dish soap, miscellaneous cleaning solutions, paper towels and laundry baskets. Miscellaneous: Devotionals, crucifixes, Lighthouse Catholic Media CDs, two small CD players, fuel card, dinner card, theater tickets for a family, Bibles, prayer books, art supplies, coloring books, soccer balls, child’s suitcase, watch, wallet, puzzles, Lego sets, Hotwheels, stuffed animals, dolls, play food and dishes, two second-hand dollhouses, toy scooter, child’s art table, learning games, a basket of children’s books for each family, basic toys…and of course love and joy. Hygiene: Dental care, shampoo, soap, diapers, diaper wipes, body wash, deodorant, lotion, misc. hair care accessories, toilet paper and tissues. Food: Grocery cards for each family, gourmet food mixes, candy, coffee, cocoa, homemade cakes. Spiritual: Mass was offered by Fr. Cook for the Angel Tree families’ intentions at 1 p.m. on Epiphany Sunday (1/4/15). Who Helped Achieve This? St. Peter Parishioners; Catholic Daughters; Family Dollar Corporate Giving; Shop-Ko Foundation; Omaha Community Playhouse; LoSole Mio Restaurant; Transwood; Norlock; Miller Electric; Molly Roth - St. Vincent DePaul Ladies; HyVee locations at Shadowlake, 90th & Center, 50th & Center, and Stockyards; Baker’s Twin Creek location. Thanks from Our SVdP Thank you for responding generously to the 8th Annual Angel Tree sponsored by the St. Peter Conference of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Through the kindness of parishioners and local businesses, we were able to provide a memorable Christmas for eleven families and the senior residents of Park East Towers. You truly helped bring Christ to those in need this Christmas! Additional Donations Did you know that the Angel Tree is a year-long effort? We gladly accept “re-gifts” and gently used items including toys, sweaters, coats, hats, mittens, religious articles, prayer books and other items you may have seen on the Angel Tree recently. If you were overly blessed and would like to donate gifts you do not need after Christmas or any time during the year, please consider donating to the Angel Tree. Donations may be left in the brown SVdP donation bins at church entrances or taken directly to the rectory. Thank you.

¿Quién Ayudó a Lograr Esto?
