Principal’s Message Brrr …. Where did the lovely 50 degree weather go?! We are ending this week with temperatures in the single digits sometimes dropping below the 0 mark. Sometime in the near future, we are hoping to return to above freezing temperatures so the children can enjoy outdoor recess once again. Recess is an important part of the day for our students and provides them with an opportunity for daily physical outside activities. Please check the weather forecast and make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. Unless it is raining, or the temperatures/wind chill are below freezing, students are expected to go outside for the full 30 minutes of recess each day. As students begin to wear winter coats on a regular basis, please also remember to put your child’s name or initials on the inside label of their coat so that we can make sure that any misplaced or forgotten coats are reunited with their owners.

Instrumental Concert Cancelled The instrumental Concert scheduled for Wednesday, January 29, is cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

This is the third week of emailing the newsletter and everything seems to be going well. They are still emails that are undeliverable or delayed delivery. If for some reason you have not been receiving the newsletter, please let the office know as soon as possible. We would like to share our email list with the PTA for their distribution of the Echo and other PTA communications. Since our basis for the collection of emails was only for the Eagle’s Eye, we wanted our parents to be aware that as early as March the PTA ECHO may be released using our initial list. If you have any concerns about this, please contact the office.

Kindergarten Parent Tours We have already held our first Kindergarten tour of the year. We still have two dates left, so do not miss out. This is a great opportunity to come see the school, and briefly observe some kindergarten classes. The dates/times for these tours are as follows: Tuesday, February 11, 2014 – 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014 – 10:00 a.m.

Please call the main office at (301) 4602195 to sign up for a tour. Valentine’s Volunteer Luncheon A new twist to our annual Volunteer Luncheon. This year we will host the luncheon on Friday, February 14 at 11:30 a.m. Rather than our regular barbecue (hopefully not a disappointment for you) we will be serving soup and sandwiches.

Grade 5 Fundraiser Eat BBQ and support the 5th grade class! Save the date--The fifth grade class will have a fundraiser at Urban BBQ (in the Safeway shopping center) on Tuesday, February 11th from 5-9pm. Come and eat some great food and a portion of your bill will be donated to support the fifth grade end-of-the-year trip and other activities. Class Pictures We will be taking class pictures next Thursday, January 30. Order forms went home today in Friday folders for anyone interested in ordering a class portrait. We will accept order forms until February 7, 2014 the end of the following week after pictures are taken. If you have any questions feel free to contact the main office.

Still Needed-Clothing Donations The Health Room is in need of extra pants shirts socks, etc. for girls and boys sizes 5-12. Students have accidents during recess where they fall in the mud or puddles on the playground. If you have any hand-me-downs, RCV is the perfect place for your donation. Additional clothes in the health room would help to speed up the process of getting the student back to class as quickly as possible, Having to call a parent to bring a change of clothes can cause lengthy delays to class. Reminder –Be Aware of the Signs of Head Lice THIS IS NOT AN ALERT—WE ARE NOT HAVING A LICE OUTBREAK AT RCV. However, your alertness can prevent one from happening. Recently several cases of head lice were identified in our school. With the onset of the bitter cold, students are wearing hats more and bundling up. Clothes, especially, hats, jackets, coats, scarfs are common places for lice to reside. If your child is scratching on the back of his/her neck and head or complaining about his/her head itching, please examine their hair and scalp. You are encouraged to contact the school health room if you have found head lice on your child so that preventive measures can be implemented at school. This information will be kept confidential. For your own peace of mind, it is a good policy to examine the hair and scalp of all family members regularly throughout the year. Thank you for your help.

Mensaje de la Directora Brrr …. Dónde se fue el maravilloso clima de 50 grados?! Estamos finalizando esta semana con temperaturas de un dígito, algunas veces cayendo debajo de los cero grados. En un futuro cercano, esperamos retornar a temperaturas menos frias, asi los niños pueden disfrutar del recreo afuera otra vez. El recreo es una parte importante del día para nuestros estudiantes y además que les provee de oportunidades para actividades físicas diarias afuera. Por favor revise el estado del tiempo y asegúrese que su niño este vestido adecuadamente para el recreo afuera. A menos que este lloviendo o las temperaturas/viento frio estan debajo de las congelantes, se espera que los estudiantes vayan afuera por los 30 minutos de recreo cada día. A los estudiantes: comienzen a utilizar sus abrigos de manera regular, por favor recuerde poner el nombre de su niño o las iniciales en la etiqueta interior de los abrigos, asi nosotros nos aseguramos que cualquier abrigo extraviado u olvidado se reunirá con su dueño.

Esta es la tercera semana que estamos enviando el boletin semanal via correo electrónico y todo parece estar yendo muy bien. Hay todavía correos electrónicos sin ser distribuidos o distribuidos tardemente. Si por alguna razón Usted no esta recibiendo el boletin semanal, por favor hágalo saber

Tours de Padres de Kindergarten Nosotros ya hemos tenido nuestro primer tour de Kindergarten de este año. Tenemos todavía dos fechas que quedan, no se lo pierda. Esta es una gran oportunidad para ver la escuela y observar brevemente algunas clases de kindergarten. Las fecha/horas de estos tours es como sigue: Martes, Febrero 11, 2014 – 10:00 a.m. Miércoles, Marzo 19, 2014 – 10:00 a.m. Por favor llame a la oficina principal al (301) 460-2195 para registrarse para un tour.

Recaudación de Fondos del 5 Grado Coma Barbacoa y ayude a la clase de 5to grado! Guarde el día—La clase de 5to grado tendrá una recaudación de fondos en Urban BBQ (en el centro commercial de Safeway) el Martes, 11 de Febrero de 5-9pm. Venga y coma buena comida y una porción de su cuenta será donada a ayudar al Quinto Grado para el viaje de fin de año y otras actividades. Fotografías de Clase Se estarán tomando fotografías de la clase el próximo Jueves, 30 de Enero. Las órdenes de compra fueron hoy en el Folder del Viernes para cualquiera que esté interesado en ordenar un portrato de la clase. Nosotros aceptamos órdenas de compra hasta el 7 de Febrero del 2014, al final de la semana siguiente después de que las fotografías han sido tomadas. Estamos necesitando donación de ropa La Enfermeria esta en necesidad de pantalones, camisas, medias, etc. para niñas y niños tallas 5-12. Los estudiantes han tenido accidentes durante el recreo donde se caen en en el lodo o en los charcos del parque. Si Usted tiene alguna ropa usada, RCV es el lugar perfecto para su donación.

Ropa adicional en la enfermería ayudará en apresurar el proceso de que los estudiantes regrese a clases tan pronto como sea posible. Tener que llamar a los padres para que traigan ropa puede causar el retraso en retornar al salón de clases. Recordatorio –Estese alerta acerca de las señles de Piojos en la Cabeza ESTA NO ES UNA ALERTA—NO TENEMOS NINGUN BROTE DE PIOJOS EN RCV. Sin embargo, su vigilancia puede prevenir de que esto suceda. Recientemente muchos casos de piojos en la cabeza fueron identificados en nuestra escuela. Con el comienzo de este frío amargo, los estudiantes estan usando gorras y abrigándose más. La ropa, especialmente gorras, chaquetas, abrigos, chalinas son lugares comunes donde los piojos residen. Si su niño se esta rascando en la parte trasera del cuello y quejándose de escozor en la cabeza, por favor examine su cabello y el cuero cabelludo. Se le anima a contactar a la enfermeria de la escuela si Usted encuentra piojos en la cabeza de su niño para tomar medidas preventivas en la escuela. Esta información será mantenida en forma coonfidencial. Para su propia paz, es una buena política revisar el cabello y el cuero cabelludo de los miembros de toda la familia de manera regular a través del año. Gracias por su ayuda.
