Principal’s Message Mensaje de la Directora Familias de OA, The bikes have arrived! Last week, I wrote a little about the DCPS Cornerstone Initiatives. The 2nd grade PE Cornerstone for the city is learning how to ride a bike and the culminating experience for every 2nd grade across all 8 wards is a bike ride experience through Rock Creek Park. OA’s very own 2nd graders will start this soon and Sr. Hernandez said, “we are ready to ride some bikes and have some fun!” We hope your family has a festive weekend and want to remind all our Tigers to be safe tonight and tomorrow if your family chooses to go Trick or Treating. We live in a metropolitan city, so cross larger intersections with caution. Be mindful to walk in groups, in well-lit areas and always be sure an adult is with you or (for our older Tigers) that your adult knows where you are and how to communicate with you. Safety first. ¡Las bicicletas han llegado! La semana pasada, escribí un poco sobre las iniciativas “Cornerstone” de DCPS. El Cornerstone de segundo grado de toda la ciudad es aprender a andar en bicicleta y la experiencia culminante para cada segundo grado en todos los 8 barrios es una experiencia de pasear por bicicleta en el parque Rock Creek. Muy pronto, nuestro tigres iniciarán y Sr. Hernandez dijo, "estamos listos para montar las bicicletas y divertirnos!" HS News from Our Counseling Team A  high  school  process  presentation  was  held  for  all  8th  graders  during  ALDEA  this  week.  At  this  time,  the  open-­‐house  list  is  given   to  students  (also  published  on  page  5).       In  November,  the  counseling  team  focuses  on  inviting  different  DCPS  and/or  DCPCS  to  present  to  the  8th  grade  class.  The   presentations  are  at  1:30  and  parents  are  welcomed  to  attend.     11/2:  McKinley  Tech   11/9:  Honor  Roll  celebration  (no  HS  visit)   11/16:  Phelps   11/23:  CHEC   11/30:  Capital  City  (awaiting  confirmation)     th th Tuesday  November  10 -­‐  an  alumni  event!  Our  rising  9  grades  will  m eet  and  greet  former  Oyster-­‐Adams  students.  Alumni  will   share  their  high  school  experiences  with  us.  Join  us  in  the  library  from  4-­‐5:30  PM     th th In  December,  the  counseling  team  coordinates  a  high  school  informational  night  for  parents  (7  and  8  grade  parents  are   invited).  It  is  at  this  event  that  we  invite  the  director  of  myschooldc.org  and  an  administrator  from  Wilson  SHS  (our  feeder  HS)  to   th present  and  answer  all  of  our  parents’  questions.    With  Costa  Rica  also  on  the  horizon,  we  are  coordinating  with  8  grade   teachers  so  that  we  work  together  to  schedule  the  pacing  and  delivery  of  information  with  students.    For  any  additional   questions,  please  contact  Ms.  Gonzales  at  [email protected]

MS XC Boys and Girls Team Finish 2nd in the DCIAA Championship The top 15 runners of each gender medaled. Oyster-Adams had 5 girls medal (Anna Parra-Jordan, Nevis Gatti, Anna Ruhlman, Maia Ferrerya, Fiona Bishop) and 6 boys medal (Alexander Walch, Memo Adams, Mateo Nawar, Jose Cruz, Vincent Kamani, and Carlos Salinas).
