Bryce Dallas Howard’s children, Theodore, 15, and Beatrice, 10, are already following in her footsteps. “My kids are drawn to the arts, self-expression [and] storytelling,” the actress — who shares the pair with husband Seth Gabel, 41 — told Us while promoting her Oral-B iO partnership. “It’s a very creative young generation.” Here, Howard, also 41, dishes more about family life. Q: Have your kids shown an interest 24

|

JANUARY 23, 2023

in acting or your work at all? Yeah. My daughter is definitely interested in being an actor. She’s [also] obsessed with math. She’s in fifth grade, and the school [is] having her start sixth grade in January. She loves academics. She’s a really good performer, but she’s probably going to be a hard-core businesswoman as well. Q: What’s your son up to lately? He’s super creative and loves making movies with his friends and editing.

Q: What’s the biggest parenting obstacle that you are facing today? Self-esteem is a very big deal. With my kids, when insecurities [or] fears come up, rather than saying, “You shouldn’t be afraid of this,” it’s like, “Is there anything that you could do that could instill confidence in you?” The biggest parenting obstacle is finding ways for them to instill confidence in themselves because that’s not something I can give them.

HER FAVORITE CHAPTER Jenna Bush Hager — who shares Mila, 9, Poppy, 7, and Hal, 3, with hubby Henry Chase Hager — gave up mom guilt “years ago,” the Today cohost, 41, tells Us. “I feel like it’s a waste of time. I just try to do the best I can every single

day and know that if I mess up, tomorrow’s a new day. [And] I realized that ‘dad guilt’ isn’t even a thing.” Still, the bestselling author — Hager recently cowrote Dawn’s e-book The Wonderful World of Blue — is still learning how to balance her many roles. “The most challenging part about being a mom of three is finding adequate time for my precious little ones, making sure they all feel seen and giving myself a little time as well.” Luckily for Hager, quality time with her brood also involves her cherished activity: “I love reading to my kids,” she says. “My favorite part of my day is being tucked into bed with them as I read stories and they fall asleep.”

CLOCKWISE FROM LEFT: BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD/INSTAGRAM (2); JOEL C RYAN/INVISION/AP/SHUTTERSTOCK; JENNA BUSH HAGER/INSTAGRAM (2); TAMERA MOWRY-HOUSLEY/INSTAGRAM; NIKKI BELLA/INSTAGRAM

“They all love books, reading, playing outside and, most of all, hanging out with their siblings,” Hager says of her children.

Guiding Force Tamera Mowry-Housley is still getting used to her kids, Aden, 10, and Ariah, 7, being independent. (Dad is Adam Housley, 51.) “I want them to be who they are, but I’ve lived longer and know where paths will lead them,” the Dr. Seuss Baking Challenge host, 44, admits to Us. Still, she’s letting them pave their own way: “It’s [about] stepping back, being observant and allowing them space to learn, grow and be.”

Speaking Up Nikki Bella’s 2-year-old, Matteo — whom she shares with hubby Artem Chigvintsev, 40 — has “his own language,” the Barmageddon host, 39, tells Us. “We don’t know if it’s because he’s heard Russian, English and Spanish so much that he’s combined everything.” Still, it seems like the toddler’s learned how to work his mama: “It’s funny because when he wants something, he knows exactly how to say it!” By Leanne Aciz Stanton / With reporting by Christina Garibaldi

Longtime pals (and ’90s icons!) KYLIE & TRAVIS

Roller-Coaster Romance The beauty mogul and the rapper are on the outs ylie Jenner and Travis Scott have called it quits — again. “They were supposed to spend the holidays together, but she went to Aspen to be with her family and friends up there,” a source tells Us, explaining that the reality star, 25, and the rapper, 31 — who were first linked in April 2017 — have a history of being on-and-off. “They

be home, but just wouldn’t turn up for her.” While the pair’s inner circle expects them to eventually reconcile — “this happened so many times their friends have lost count,” admits the source — Jenner and Scott are focusing solely on their kids in the meantime. “[Even] when they’re angry at each other or broken up… they always remain great coparents.”

Lucky to Be Alive ounting his blessings. On New Year’s Day, Jeremy Renner nearly lost his life after he was crushed by a snowplow weighing over 14,000 pounds near his Nevada home. Although his road to recovery will be long — Renner underwent two surgeries for blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries — the actor is determined to get through it. “This has been a hugely

emotional experience,” says an insider, adding that Renner, 52, is still “incredibly” shaken up. “He cheated death,” notes the source. “Things will likely never be the same for him, both mentally and physically, but he’s responding very well to treatment. Prison Panic

“This is rock bottom, for sure,” says a source.

On Jan. 6, Jen Shah was sentenced to six and a half years behind bars after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering. “She’s devastated,” a source tells Us of the RHOSLC star, 49, whose request for a reduced sentence of three years was rejected. “Jen’s very nervous and is in a very bad place.” Though the judge has not announced where she’ll be incarcerated (she’s due to report on Feb. 17), Shah’s legal team has asked for the FPC Bryan facility in Bryan, Texas, a women’s minimum-security prison camp that reportedly offers dormitory-style housing. “Jen’s been told that she should consider herself fortunate that the facility is relatively soft compared to others,” adds a source. “But the prospect of being surrounded by criminals for years is still a nightmare of unexplainable proportions.”

ans went wild on Dec. 29, after Angelina Jolie and daughter Shiloh, 16, were seen grabbing coffee with actor Paul Mescal in London following his performance in A Streetcar Named Desire. While a source tells Us that Jolie “struck up a really good connection” with Mescal, 26, who’s rumored to have recently split from singer Phoebe Bridgers, many in Jolie’s inner circle feel the timing is suspicious. “Here she is having coffee with a super-hot guy right as her ex [Brad Pitt] is on vacation with his new girlfriend [Ines de Ramon],” says the source, noting that Jolie, 47, is “very focused” on her image and doesn’t want it to seem like Pitt, 59, has moved on and she hasn’t. “It wouldn’t surprise anyone if she did this in part to send that message out there.” But an insider hints that her reasoning may be more personal than that. “Anyone who knows Angie thinks she’s still in love with Brad and is resentful that he’s moved on,” says the insider. “Basically, if she can’t have him, no one can.”

“They really only have each other right now,” says a source.

ith his new memoir, Spare, Prince Harry made good on his promise to share an unflinching look at life behind palace doors. He writes of the intense sibling rivalry between himself and his older brother (and future king of England), Prince William, his trauma over the loss of their mother, Princess Diana, and chronicles the events that led him and wife Meghan Markle to leave the U.K. and their royal duties in 2020. He also dropped more than a few bombshells, including the accusation that William physically attacked him, leaving him with visible injuries.

W

As his confessions continue to send shock waves around the globe, insiders reveal how the royal family is coping. “The palace won’t publicly comment on Spare,” shares one insider, “but it’s safe to say the relationship between Harry and his family has been torn to shreds.” While Harry, 38, has insisted he’s open to reconciling with the likes of William and his wife, Princess Kate, and his father, King Charles III, a second insider says he’s aware he may have gone too far. “For all of Harry’s bravado, there’s no doubt he feels terrible about how things have worked out,” says the insider. “There’s definitely a part of him that feels guilty about all the drama and stress he’s caused.”

BROTHERS AT WAR William, 40, is said to be seething over his sibling’s tell-all. Harry alleges that William wanted to brawl during their heated 2019

COVER STORY and disgusted,” says the second insider. “He doesn’t see how Harry can ever come back into the fold after this and has said he will never speak to his younger brother again. There’s just so much anger, and in some cases outright untruths as far as William sees it.” Kate, 41, is also fuming. In Spare, Harry revisited the infamous flower girl dress dispute between Meghan and Kate, reiterating that it was his sister-in-law who made Meghan cry despite reports to the contrary in the press. “Kate feels that Harry’s actions are atrocious,” says the first insider. “She is appalled at him for dragging her name through the dirt and is finding it hard to forgive.” Adds a third insider: “Kate is very upset about Harry’s book. She and William both feel they can’t trust him anymore.”

NASTY ACCUSATIONS According to the second insider, Charles is also distraught. Harry’s been opening up extensively about his fractured bond with his father. He claims the king, 74, made a crass joke at Harry’s expense on the day he was born, telling Diana, “Wonderful! Now you’ve given me an heir and a spare — my work is done.” Harry also says Charles made light of the persistent rumors that he wasn’t Harry’s biological dad. (There was speculation Harry’s real father was Major James Hewitt, with whom Diana had an affair.) “Who knows if I’m really the Prince of Wales? Who knows if I’m even your real father? Maybe your real father is in Broadmoor, darling boy!” Harry recalled Charles saying. According to the second insider, Charles “is outraged that Harry has aired so many embarrassing and damaging assertions.” The king is also particularly upset about Harry’s takedown of his wife, Queen Consort Camilla. Charles was unfaithful to Diana with Camilla, 75, throughout their marriage, and Harry says he and 34

William had asked their father not to marry her, as he feared she’d become their “wicked stepmother.” In interviews promoting the book, Harry maintains “dangerous” Camilla traded negative stories to the British papers in order to repair her ruined reputation as the “other woman.” He also talked about Charles and Camilla’s 2005 wedding in Spare, saying he felt his mother may have sabotaged it by causing multiple delays. “I couldn’t help but think some force in the universe (Mummy?) was blocking rather than blessing their union,” he writes. Says the second insider: “Charles feels Harry really crossed the line.”

DAMAGE CONTROL The palace has been meeting around

the clock to figure out how best to handle Harry. “Charles, William and the rest of the royals are in constant talks about how to address this matter,” says the second insider, noting that they are considering striking back by stripping Harry and Meghan, 41, of their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles. “It’s a very real possibility,” notes the second insider. Or they may take the high road. “There’s a strong belief that the best form of getting even is to continue to ignore Harry and Meghan,” adds the insider, “and not feed into their drama and incessant attention-seeking efforts.”

HOLDING FIRM A fourth insider says Harry isn’t second-guessing his decision to delve deep. “He told the truth and could have said much worse,” states the insider. “He feels a sense of relief that everything is out there and is choosing to ignore any negative reactions and focus on the love instead.” Harry claims the ball is in his family’s court when it comes to moving forward. “If the royals want to take accountability and pick up the phone to initiate peace talks, he’s all ears,” says the second insider. “But if they want to ice him out, there’s nothing he can do to change that. He’s got his life to get on with and his wife and children to protect.” 

arry doesn’t shy away from discussing the tragic death of his mother, who passed away at age 36 following a 1997 car crash. During a Jan. 8 appearance on 60 Minutes, Harry told Anderson Cooper that he was in denial for years, convinced Diana may have faked her death in order to escape the constant scrutiny she faced. “I just refused to accept that she was gone,” Harry explained. “Part of, you know, she would never do this to us, but also part of, maybe this is all part of a plan.” He says he finally accepted she was gone after seeing a police report when he was 20 years old — which shed new light on what really happened on that fateful night. For years, the driver of Diana’s car was

believed to be at fault (he’d reportedly been under the influence of alcohol when he crashed in a Paris tunnel). But Harry says after revisiting the location of the accident himself and seeing photographs from a secret government file from the scene, he believes British paparazzi photographers are solely to blame. As he told ITV’s Tom Bradby: “The people that were predominantly responsible for it all got away with it.”

OPEN BOOK t’s no secret Pamela Anderson wasn’t thrilled about the 2022 Hulu series Pam & Tommy, which chronicled her rocky marriage to Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee and the events surrounding the release of their scandalous 1996 sex tape. The night before the finale aired, she took to Instagram to reveal she was taking control of her narrative with a Netflix documentary. “My life. A thousand imperfections.

A million misperceptions,” she wrote. “Not a victim, but a survivor. And alive to tell the real story.” Now, with the sixpart special called Pamela, A Love Story debuting on Jan. 31 and her memoir, Love, Pamela, dropping the same day, insiders tell Us the 55-year-old actress is opening up 36

She’s been married six times — and dated some known faces in between TOMMY LEE

Anderson once admitted she never “fell out of love” with Lee. (They were married for three years.) “We probably should’ve stuck it out,” she said.

MARCUS SCHENKENBERG

When she ended her brief engagement to the Swedish model in 2001, she blamed his lack of drive. “He didn’t take work seriously,” she reportedly said.

KID ROCK

Three years after their first split, Anderson and the “Born Free” singer wed aboard a private yacht in France in 2006 — then called it quits just 17 days later.

RICK SALOMON

She married the pro poker player twice — once in 2007 for two months and again in 2014 for six months. “We wish each other and our families well,” they said in 2015.

CRISS ANGEL

In 2008, fresh from her divorce from Salomon, she was linked to the optical illusionist when they were spotted making out in Sin City.

JON PETERS

Anderson and Peters — who’d dated in the 1980s — tied the knot during a private ceremony in Malibu in January 2020. (The marriage lasted two weeks.)

DAN HAYHURST

She was married to her former bodyguard for one year before their late 2021 divorce. “She simply fell out of love,” a source told Us at the time.

PALTROW FALCHUCK

The pair waited more than a year after their 2018 wedding before finally shacking up together. “I think it certainly helps with preserving the mystery and preserving the idea that this person has their own life,” spilled the Goop guru, who says she and the Glee producer have been one big happy family since moving into their eco-friendly Montecito, Calif., mansion with their respective sets of teens. But Paltrow joked that there is one downside to consciously coupling under the same roof: “Our sex life is over.”

KARDASHIAN &

BARKER

The Poosh founder raised eyebrows last October when she revealed that she and her rocker hubby still weren’t living together despite tying the knot five months earlier — because they wanted to put the kids first. “We wanted them to feel really comfortable, and they have both lived in their homes their whole lives,” explained Kardashian, who shares three kids with ex Scott Disick. (Barker has two children and a stepdaughter with ex-wife Shanna Moakler.) However, the newlyweds did snap up a $14.5 million beach home, so it seems they’re getting the urge to merge!

COOK & CUOCO

MEYERS &

TORTORELLA

For a long time, the duo, who started dating in 2006, were happy to FaceTime every day and hook up once a week. But now that the Younger alum and the fitness entrepreneur, who tied the knot in 2018, are expecting their first child, they’ve ditched their Manhattan digs for a charming Victorian across the river in Weehawken, N.J., while also pressing pause on their polyamorous lifestyle. But don’t expect Tortorella, who is sexually fluid, and Meyers, who identifies as gay, to be a conventional family. As the actor noted: “We’re on our own path here.”

BURTON

& BONHAM CARTER The director and the Crown alum hooked up on the set of 2001’s Planet of the Apes and had two children together (inset) but never wed. The eccentric couple also never moved in together, instead famously living next door to each other in London — their homes were connected by a hallway — partly because of the spookmeister’s snoring. However, the unconventional arrangement didn’t last — and it seems Bonham Carter is happy to give conformity a go: The actress and her art historian beau, Rye Dag Holmboe, have been living together since 2021. Whoa there! More than a year after tying the knot in 2018, Cuoco confessed that she and Cook were still living apart while building their dream home in California. “It’s been working great, and we love it,” she said. The Flight Attendant star and pro equestrian started playing house in March 2020, but sharing an address didn’t quite lead to domestic bliss: Cuoco filed for divorce a little over a year later and is now expecting her first child with Ozark actor Tom Pelphrey.

GRAHAM &

ERVIN

Before the pair welcomed three children — a son in 2020 and twin boys a year later — the model revealed that she lived in Hollywood and her film director husband in the Big Apple. The bicoastal life was “absolutely fabulous,” Graham gushed. “We just meet in L.A. or New York. We meet in Paris, Miami. It’s pretty sexy.” But after eventually outgrowing their jet-setting lifestyle — and their Brooklyn apartment — the couple is now enjoying the suburban life in New Jersey.

A Man Called Otto Hey, get off Tom Hanks’ lawn! The nice-guy actor unleashes his cranky side in a decidedly feel-good comedy. His Otto is a depressed, set-in-his-ways widower who despises cats, telemarketers, UPS drivers and anyone parking in his neighborhood without the right permit. Then a young family — i.e., quick-witted pregnant Marisol (Mariana Treviño, Narcos: Mexico), 42

her hapless husband (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) and their two girls — moves in next door. She brings over hot food and a barrage of questions; Otto, in turn, begins to unthaw. He even lets his deceased wife’s former student bunk with him. This attitude change is welcome, though hardly credible: Hanks is so inherently affable that he never quite sells Otto’s grumpiness in the first place.

(As if he isn’t going to help a pair of elderly neighbors fight management so they can stay in their home!) And, sure, the notion that basic civility can cure suicidal tendencies comes off as cloying at best. But there’s something genuinely charming about the blossoming friendship between Otto and Marisol. Only the most coldhearted will not be at least a tiny MARA REINSTEIN bit moved.

Us rounds up what people are tuning into this week

Plane Um, would it be too soon to crown the silliest movie of 2023? No? Good, because here’s a top contender. Captain Brodie Torrance (Gerard Butler) is your friendly commercial pilot flying from Singapore to Japan on New Year’s Eve. Just 14 passengers are on board, but one is a criminal (Mike Colter) being extradited for murder. This is the least of the captain’s problems. In short order, he’ll have to crashland the plane on a remote island because of severe weather conditions,

frantically call for help and then . . . big sigh . . . fight the dangerous local rebels taking the survivors hostage! (Guess which trigger-happy traveler comes to his aid.) All the above developments — not to mention plot holes the size of craters — would be somewhat palatable if the characters took even a single moment to acknowledge the absurdity of their situation. But Butler et al. play it straight the whole time, draining the fun in the process. MR That’s just plane rude.
