EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD 1) Acts 10: 34a, 37-43 2) Colossians 3:1-4 or 1 Corinthians 5: 6b-8 3) John 20: 1-9 or Mark 16: 1-7 (Lec. 41)

FOCUS: Our faith is in the Resurrection of Jesus. The three readings for today proclaim that Jesus rose from the dead. This event has consequences for all, for it is an historical event, a fulfillment of prophecy and an invitation for new life. In the end, our faith is an encounter with Jesus who rose from the dead. And that encounter heals us from our sins.

LITURGY OF THE WORD The first reading is from the Acts of the Apostles, where we hear Saint Peter preaching about the Resurrection as the source of eternal life. In the second reading, Paul addresses the Colossians and reminds them that, because of Christ’s Resurrection, their faithfulness to Jesus and living according to his teaching will result in eternal life with him. In the Gospel, Saint John recounts the events of Easter Sunday - the finding of the empty tomb.

EASTER SUNDAY Today as we celebrate the feast of Easter we find the challenge of also seeing and believing the resurrection that comes through our own lives of self-sacrifice which brings new life to others. Your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will show the love of the Risen Christ by bringing your love to those who live in fear and doubt, loneliness and dread.
