This Thursday, November 24th is Thanksgiving Day! As in the past, on this day only one Mass for the whole community will be celebrated at 10:00 AM in the Church. Come and join us to give thanks to God for His many blessings!

RECTORY CLOSED This Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, the Rectory will be closed all day! Friday, after Thanksgiving, two masses will be celebrated: 12 pm in Spanish and 5:15 in English. COLLECTION FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT The weekend of November 19/20, the annual national collection for Human Development will be taken at all the Masses as a second collection. NEW TR@NSL@TION OF M@SS PR@YERS “The revised English translation provides a unique occasion for Catholics to reflect on the meaning of the Mass. As we have seen, many of those familiar words for the Mass parts will be changing. We well need to learn new responses and new musical settings. It is my hope that this period of preparation and transition will not be merely mechanical—simply about training people to say new responses—but catechetical and spiritual. As we are taken out of our routine, we have a unique opportunity to ponder anew what we say and in the Mass and rediscover the splendor of the liturgy, so that we might grow deeper in our communion with Jesus every time we go to Mass.” A Guide to the New Translation of the Mass, p. 19. November 20, 2011 Our Lord Christ the King of the Universe NEW TRANSLATION OF THE MASS PRAYERS The new translation will be officially promulgated for use in the liturgy next week November 27, 2011, which is the first Sunday of Advent. The new English translation of the Mass prayers and responses seek to conform more to the Latin text. •We will begin to use a more accurate translation of for the Latin phrase “Et cum spiritu tuo,” which is used four times in the Mass as the people’s response. Instead of saying “And also with you,” we will say: “And with your spirit” •During the Penitential Act, we will say: “Through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault” and strike our breast as a sign of real sorrow for our sins. The repetition expresses more fully our sorrow over sin. •The profession of our faith in the Nicene Creed will follow the Latin: “Credo” which is “I believe” Instead of saying the plural: “We believe in one God…” This is what we do when we renew our baptismal promises and so it is fitting that we will make a similar personal act of our faith at each Mass. •For the Lamb of God. As the priest holds up the Sacred Eucharist for adoration, he now will say: “Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.” People will respond: “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” This is a more accurate translation of the Scripture passage! •The Gloria. In the new translation, Jesus is addressed as the “Only Begotten Son.” •At the consecration, the words of Jesus about shedding his blood, “for you and for many,” have been restored to that translation! Please go over the material provided in church this weekend which contains the full prayers & responses of the Mass that are affected by these changes. The changes are highlighted in bold letters.

20 de noviembre de 2011 Nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Rey del Universo EL REY PASTOR La tarea del pastor y la tarea del rey no pueden ser más diferentes la una de la otra. Los pastores están en el último escalón de la sociedad, mientras los reyes están en el más elevado. Pero Dios dice, por medio del profeta Ezequiel, que el Mesías regirá de manera muy diferente a las autoridades de la tierra que oprimen a su pueblo y le causa daño por ser malos gobernantes. Nuestro Rey asume el trabajo por sí mismo. Cristo, como un pastor, dará reposo a sus ovejas, buscará a la extraviada, traerá de vuelta a las perdidas y dispersas. Curará a las heridas y vendará a las lesionadas. Él no delega, sino que las apacentará “con justicia”.
