oncursos de bigotes, danzas de fuego, carreras de coches suicidas, globos aerostáticos alzándose sobre el desierto... La Feria de Camellos de Pushkar es mucho más que una simple reunión de comerciantes nómadas que negocian con ganado. Entre finales del mes de octubre y principios de noviembre, coincidiendo con la luna llena del mes de Kartika del calendario indio, decenas de miles de personas acuden a esta localidad junto al desierto del Thar, conocido como el gran desierto indio para disfrutar de los desfiles, carreras y concursos en los que el camello es el protagonista principial. Los mercaderes venden fundamentalmente estos animales, pero también otros como ovejas, cabras y vacas. Y entre los puestos de sillas de montar, mantas y turbantes, no faltan los que aprovechan para exhibir souvenirs y productos fabricados con la leche, el cuero e, incluso, los excrementos del animal. Cinco días

The Pushkar Camel Fair is much more than a simple gathering of nomadic traders negotiating over livestock. Between the end of October and the beginning of November to coincide with the full moon of the month of Kartika on the Indian calendar, hundreds of thousands of people head to this town next to the Thar Desert to enjoy the parades, races and competitions where camels are the stars. Merchants mostly sell these animals, but they also sell sheep, goats and cows. And among the stalls stocked with saddles, blankets and turbans, you can also find those who take advantage of it all to exhibit their souvenirs made of the milk, the leather and even the excrements of this animal. Five days featuring camels at this Rajasthan fair.

El pasajero es el nombre del último trabajo que Jairo Zavala acaba de publicar bajo su nombre artístico, Depedro. «Soy un pasajero muy aplicado –dice sonriendo–, porque lo tengo que disfrutar y sufrir muy a menudo. ¡Viajo muchísimo! Aunque el nombre del disco se refiere no solo al viaje físico, sino al personal. Mis idas y venidas por todo el mundo –Europa, Estados Unidos, África, Latinoamérica– me facilitan el contacto con otras culturas y esos colores están reflejados en mi nuevo disco. Porque, como buen músico, ¡intento robar todo lo que puedo!». Eso sí, la maleta la hace siempre a última hora. Y es grande, para volver cargada de discos. «Hay que viajar ligero de espíritu para traerlo lleno», concluye metafóricamente. Lleva poca cosa, pero «nunca faltan las zapatillas de correr, que me encanta, y un bañador, ¡porque nunca se sabe!». / El pasajero (The Passenger) is the title of Jairo Zavala’s latest work which has just been published under his stage name, Depedro. «I’m a very diligent passenger,» he says while smiling, «because I have to enjoy and suffer from it quite often. I travel a lot! However, the name of the album not only refers to a physical journey but rather a personal one as well. My comings and goings around the world – Europe, the United States, Africa, Latin America – offer me contact with other cultures and those colors are reflected in my new album. Because, just as any good musician, I try to steal everything I can!» Yet his bag always gets packed at the last minute. And it’s big, so he can return loaded with albums. «You have to travel with a light spirit in order to bring it back full,» he metaphorically concludes. He doesn’t take much, but «I’ve always got my running shoes, which I love, and some swim trunks because you just never know!»

Miguel Bosé vuelve a sus canciones del pasado y a rodearse de amigos. Ya lo hizo en Papito y Papitwo, dos de sus mayores éxitos. La diferencia es que esta vez lo hace en formato desenchufado. El resultado se llama Bosé: MTV Unplugged y los amigos que lo acompañan son, entre otros, Pablo Alborán, Juanes, Álex González y Sergio Vallín de Maná, Natalia Lafourcade… El disco se pone a la venta el 7 de octubre. Por lo demás, el cantante sigue igual que siempre: imprevisible, explosivo a ratos y sin renunciar a ese halo de misterio que aún sigue conservando en plena de era de las redes sociales y de la hiperexposición de los artistas. ¿Cómo has hecho la selección de canciones del disco? ¿Con qué criterio? Mi sonido y mi identidad no son acústicos. Trabajo con ordenadores y mucha informática desde los 80. Hacer la traslación de mi mundo al acústico era un reto y muchas canciones perdían la magia, pero las que hemos incluido han tomado un vuelo brutal, se han multiplicado por cien. ¿Y cómo repartiste las canciones entre los artistas que te acompañan? Muchas canciones las han traído los invitados debajo del brazo. Juanes, por ejemplo, dijo que quería hacer Amiga; Sasha Sokol me pidió Como un lobo. Mucha gente ya venía con su canción elegida y tuvimos la suerte de que pasaron bien la prueba, porque muchas otras se quedaron atrás. No podían estar en un proyecto así.

MIGUEL BOSÉ HAS GONE BACK TO HIS songs from the past and surrounding himself with friends. He did it with Papito and Papitwo, two of his greatest successes. The difference this time is he’s done it unplugged. The result is called Bosé: MTV Unplugged and the friends accompanying him include Pablo Alborán, Juanes, Álex González and Sergio Vallín from Maná, Natalia Lafourcade… The album will be available for purchase as of October 7. As far as everything else, the singer is the same as always: unforeseeable, and explosive at times without getting rid of that halo of mystery that continues to follow him even in this era of social media and the hyper-exposure affecting today’s artists. How did you choose the songs that would go on the album? What criteria did you use? My sound and my identity are not acoustic. I’ve been working with computers and a lot of technology since the 1980’s. Transferring my world to the acoustic world was quite a challenge and many songs would lose their magic but the ones we’ve included have really been lifted; multiplying themselves by a hundred. And how did you distribute the songs among the artists accompanying you? Many of the songs were brought in by my guests. Juanes, for example, said he wanted to do Amiga, and Sasha Sokol asked me for Como un lobo. Many people already came in with a chosen song and we were lucky in that they passed the test because many others were left behind. They couldn’t be in a project like this. Were you particularly excited about singing with any of these artists? With many of them. On all of the duets I’ve ever done, I’ve always wanted there to be a good relationship and feeling with the other artist, a friendship, and this album is no exception. There has to be chemistry in a duet because it’s really apparent; it’s obvious whether or not there’s complicity as soon as you hear it. I imagine there are people you would have liked to have worked with that couldn’t… Exactly. Some people couldn’t do it because of scheduling issues, because they had already made certain commitments, were on tour or recording their own albums. If you think about

¿Te hacía especial ilusión cantar con alguno de esos artistas? Con muchos. En todos los duetos que he hecho siempre he querido que hubiese mucha relación y un trato con el otro artista, que hubiera amistad, y este disco no es una excepción. Tiene que haber química en el dueto porque eso se nota; al escucharlo se sabe cuándo hay complicidad y cuándo no. Imagino que gente que querías que estuviera no ha podido estar… Claro, ha habido gente que no ha podido estar por problemas de agenda, porque ya tenían compromisos, estaban de gira o grabando sus propios discos. Piensa que tenemos agendas muy complicadas. Si a mí me llamas para hacer algo en febrero en 2018 ya no tengo fechas. ¿Y cómo fue la grabación? ¿Qué recuerdas de ese día? Fue mágica, absolutamente mágica. Tenía una orquesta fantástica. La base era mi banda de siempre y luego alrededor había músicos de Argentina, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Colombia, México… Fantásticos todos, los 21 que participaron. Fue un día inolvidable. Hay también dos temas inéditos… Dime que diré es una canción de Juan Luis Guerra, una bachata que me regaló. Me dijo que él nunca podría interpretarla porque cada vez que la cantaba me oía a mí y además, cada vez que se la hacía escuchar a la gente, le decían que parecía una cosa de Miguel Bosé. LOS SABORES MÁS AUTÉNTICOS EN LA GASTRONOMÍA DE PALMA Historia, cultura y gastronomía forman el tándem perfecto en Palma. Por su parte, Genestra también encuentra el “motor de su inspiración” en lo local y en los productos de la tierra. Para ello cultiva su propio huerto e investiga la gastronomía de las diferentes culturas que han habitado la isla a lo largo de la historia: fenicios, romanos, árabes, cristianos, etc. Su restaurante galardonado con la estrella Michelin se encuentra en Capdepera; en Palma, hay que acudir al Restaurant Café Aromata, ubicado en un edificio histórico en pleno centro de la ciudad. Además de estas propuestas a cargo de chefs de reconocido prestigio, en Palma es posible encontrar establecimientos que incluyen en sus cartas recetas tradicionales de la gastronomía mallorquina, entre ellas, el tumbet, el frit mallorquín o el arroz brut, muchos de ellos ubicados en el barrio de moda de Santa Catalina. La repostería también tiene su protagonismo en la capital balear. Hornos y pastelerías elaboran diariamente, y de manera tradicional, productos como la afamada ensaimada. Para conocer el lado más popular de la gastronomía de Palma, es necesario
probar los llonguets, los populares panecillos de Palma, y acudir a mercados como el de Santa Catalina o L’Olivar. Allí, entre diferentes productos locales, destacan los aceites comercializados bajo la Denominación de Origen Oli de Mallorca, las Flores de Sal d’es Trenc, recolectadas desde hace milenios en las salinas de la isla, y los vinos de la Denominación de Origen Pla i Llevant. odos llegan a Córdoba buscándola. Es el gran reclamo, el icono indiscutible de la ciudad de los califas. Es la grandiosa Mezquita-Catedral –Patrimonio de la Humanidad–, una de las construcciones más bellas e impactantes de España y del mundo. Su entramado de más de un millar de columnas y arcadas en color rojo y blanco tienen un efecto mágico y su construcción resume el paso de distintas civilizaciones en el sur de la península. El terreno lo ocupó primero una basílica visigoda; tras la invasión de los musulmanes, los omeyas la sustituyeron por un enorme templo musulmán, construido en cuatro fases (entre los años 786 y 988), ampliación tras ampliación hasta convertirla en la segunda mezquita más grande del mundo por detrás de la de La Meca y solo superada después por la Mezquita de Santa Sofía, en Estambul. Tras la reconquista de Córdoba, en el siglo XIII fue reconvertida al cristianismo con la construcción en su interior de la Catedral de Santa María. Y eso le hace ser realmente singular: el templo conjuga el Patio de los Naranjos, la torre del campanario, antiguo alminar, y los arcos islámicos con el arte cristiano de la catedral. EVERYONE COMES TO Córdoba looking for it. It’s the great claim, the city of the old Córdoba Caliphate’s indisputable icon. It’s the grandiose Mosque-Cathedral, a World Heritage Site and one of the most beautiful and stunning structures in Spain or anywhere in the world. The maze formed by more than a thousand columns and arcades in red and white creates a magical effect and its construction offers a summary of the passing of different civilizations through the south of the Peninsula. This site was first occupied by a Visigoth basilica. Following the Muslim invasion, the Umayyads replaced this with an enormous Muslim temple built over four phases (between 786 and 988), extension

after extension until it became the second largest mosque in the world following the one in Mecca and only surpassed later by the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. After the Reconquista of Cordoba, it was re-converted to Christianity in the 13th century, with the construction of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption inside. And that makes it truly unique: the temple blends together the Orange Tree Courtyard, the bell tower, the old minaret and Islamic arches with the cathedral’s Christian art. Early risers can take advantage of free entry between 8.30 and 9.30 a.m., but the experience is more impressive at night: nighttime tours are organized under the name El Alma de Córdoba, with light and sounds effects that guide your steps among the forest of pink marble columns. Each one of the caliphs that reined in Cordoba would leave their mark on this monumental temple. With Abd al-Rahman I, Abd al-Rahman II and Abd al-Rahman III, Cordoba flourished in the arts, sciences, industry and agriculture

Legend has it that he dragged the bells from the city of Santiago to Cordoba to be used as lamps for the last expansion on the mosque. Upon leaving the MosqueCathedral, one must walk towards the river and admire the Roman bridge or puente viejo, majestic with its 331 meters divided into 16 arches, the statue of St. Raphael standing high above and its twenty centuries of life over the Guadalquivir. Puerta del Puente, con una Sala de Exposiciones que ilustra su historia y el acceso al mirador desde el que se obtiene una de las estampas más bellas de Córdoba, sobre todo al atardecer, cuando el sol tiñe de dorado sus piedras. Desde el Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos veremos Córdoba desde las alturas, caminando por sus torres y murallas para después recorrer los jardines que se refrescan con el agua que llega de Sierra Morena y discurre por los estanques y fuentes. En su torre del Homenaje se reunió Cristóbal Colón con los Reyes Católicos para poner en marcha la aventura marina que terminó en el descubrimiento de América. Muy cerca están las Caballerizas Reales –«la catedral para los caballos» como las llamó Lorca–, dedicadas a la cría de ejemplares de Pura Raza Española desde hace cuatro siglos. Los miércoles, viernes y fines de semana ofrecen espectáculos ecuestres en los que bailan los caballos andaluces. Después de visto lo imprescindible –aunque bien podríamos marcarnos una ruta de museos con los del pintor Julio Romero de Torres, el Arqueológico, el Taurino o el de Bellas Artes–, llega el momento de caminar sin rumbo por la judería, el viejo corazón de la ciudad que rodea la Mezquita, perderse por rincones llenos de encanto que piden ser fotografiados, plazuelas con nombres evocadores y callejas cargadas de leyendas. En nuestro deambular, al doblar una esquina nos encontramos con la estatua del célebre médico judío Maimónides, con la figura del filósofo cordobés Séneca o la del mítico torero Manolete, que nació en el barrio de Santa Marina. Disfrutamos descubriendo historias y personajes, atisbamos un arco ojival al fondo o emprendemos la búsqueda de la antigua sinagoga. Pero también hay que dejarse llevar por el olfato y el gusto y lanzarse al tapeo en las tabernas con más solera de las calles alrededor de la plaza de las Tendillas o la de la Corredera. Porque Córdoba es deliciosa para la vista, pero también para el paladar.

La Calleja de las Flores, adornada con macetas y con la mejor perspectiva de la torre de la Mezquita, es la calle más fotografiada de Córdoba. Los patios son el alma de las casas cordobesas. En mayo se celebra la Fiesta de los Patios, Patrimonio de la Humanidad, un concurso en el que los vecinos compiten engalanándolos y mostrándolos al público. From the heights of the Alcazar you can enjoy a view of Cordoba in all its glory as you walk along the towers and walls. Christopher Columbus met with the Catholic Monarchs at the Tower of Homage to plan the sea voyage that
would end with the discovery of America. Nearby are the Royal Stables - “the horse cathedral” as Lorca called it-, which has been dedicated to raising Spanish purebreds for four centuries. They offer a horse show on Wednesdays, Fridays and the weekends where the Andalusian horses dance. After seeing the essentialsalthough you could tour the museums, such as that dedicated to painter Julio Romero de Torres, the Museo Arqueológico, the Museo Taurino for the history of bullfighting or Museo de Bellas Artes, it’s time to take a stroll about the Jewish Quarter, the old heart of the city surrounding the Mosque. Lose yourself among the many charming nooks and crannies which are just begging to be photographed, little squares with evocative names and streets filled with legends. As you do, you’ll turn a corner and find yourself in front of the statue of the famous Jewish doctor, Maimonides, or the figure of Cordoba’s philosopher Senecao or perhaps that of the legendary bullfighter, Manolete, born in the Santa Marina neighborhood. Discover all the stories and characters, have a peek into the lancet arch or search for the old synagogue. But let yourself be drawn by the smell and head for some tapas in the most traditional taverns in the streets around Plaza de las Tendillas and Plaza de la Corredera square. Because Cordoba is delightful to the eyes, but also on the palate.

An almost unreal intense and shiny lapis lazuli background occupies the back of the vault and is like a magnet for any eye wandering about the other frescos covering the Sistine Chapel. There, amid the spirals of human figures, mountains of flesh and muscles, tense gestures and dramatic foreshortenings, reigns the figure of a Christ imbued with power who saves a few and condemns many with a move of his right arm. Angels, saints, the resuscitated, devils...all truly painted sculptures that seem to come right off the wall, rising and descending in a real play of movement and expressiveness. Su presidenta y fundadora, Marta Andreu, va a dar a conocer ante más de 2.000 jóvenes la historia de solidaridad, ayuda, generosidad y cariño que la organización ofrece, siempre con el apoyo y la ayuda incondicional de Air Europa, a más de cien familias de colectivos vulnerables, prestando especial atención a la educación, la familia y la salud. By S E R G I O M U Ñ O Z Photo: C A R L O S C A R R I Ó N «Siempre me ha gustado pintar y cuando tenía 22 años empecé a ir a clases. Desde 2008 me reúno con un grupo de amigos acuarelistas en un centro cultural y pintamos. La técnica que más me inspira es el estilo abstracto con acuarela líquida, pero también hago paisaje. Pinto en mis ratos libres y, cuando vuelo, también me llevo las acuarelas a mi destacamento. En cuanto a los muebles, empecé a restaurarlos cuando me compré mi casa. El 90 por ciento de ellos me los regalan, y muchos están destrozados. Yo los limpio, los decapo, los lijo, les doy lacas y pátinas y consigo resultados sorprendentes.

I’ve been meeting with a group of watercolor friends since 2008 at a cultural center and we paint. The technique that inspires me the most is an abstract style with liquid watercolors, but I also do landscapes. I paint in my free time and I also take watercolors with me when off base. As far as the furniture, I began restoring pieces when I bought my house. People have given me 90 percent of them and many are destroyed. I clean them, scrape and sand them, add some lacquer and patina and get surprising results. I give it new life and everyone who sees it is amazed».
