Second Sunday of Easter—April 12, 2015

Vamos a relajarnos.

Cathedral Film Series Third Tuesdays through May 19th

NEXT FILM, April 21:

“STAGECOACH” 7 - 930 pm; Msgr. Bowe Room, Lower Level Brief Discussion follows

FINAL FILM IN THE SERIES: May 19th: “The Wizard of Oz” (Vatican List for ‘Art’)

Bishop Bill’s Corner There is a wonderful feeling when we are celebrating a special achievement. The wedding and the reception afterwards is the culmination of a relationship that grows into a lifelong commitment and nearly a year’s planning for the wedding day. Graduation is a celebration of a lot of hard work, study, jobs and determination. Today we celebrate that our long “lengthening” Lenten journey is over. We have come from the darkness of winter and the receiving of Ashes through the prayers, fasting, and works of charity to the great remembrance of our forgiveness given to us through the death and resurrection of our savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. We renewed our baptismal vows or were actually baptized and confirmed at Easter. And we were filled with new life. Now, it would be normal to declare that it is time to rest. It has been over a forty day journey from Ash Wednesday to Easter. Let’s relax. However, our Gospel today shows us that Jesus had other ideas. The night of his resurrection, as related in John’s Gospel, Jesus appears to the disciples in the upper room. He wishes them peace, shows them his hands and side and again wishes them peace. He then breathes on them—just like God did in the beginning of creation—and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive and forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” The very Spirit of the risen Lord has been given to them! They must proclaim the risen Lord in the power of his Spirit to the world, bringing his forgiveness and mercy to all. A new creation has been proclaimed: Jesus, the Christ, is Lord and Savior of all. We are all one in him. Don’t just sit back and relax because Lent is over. This is our acceptable time. This is the great fifty days of Easter. Alleluia is our song. Keep on sharing the Lord, now and always! Amen!
