Religious Education Upcoming Calendar Dates: April 24th: Wednesday Class April 27th: Saturday Class and Alter Server Training April 30th: Confirmation Practice 7:00 PM Upcoming events: Next weekend, after all of the masses, some of our teens, including Confirmation candidates, will sell baked goods in order to raise money for the summer service trip in July. We're asking all parishioners to support their efforts with either the purchasing of their goods or the donation of some of your own. Altar server training continues after religious education classes next Saturday, until 12:15 PM. Our next service outing for our Confirmation candidates will be this Tuesday, April 23rd, when we will once again serve dinner at Lincoln Park Community Shelter. If you would like to attend this outing please let our DRE, Daniel Maul, know at 773-478-1157, ext. 16 or [email protected] We'll need to leave the rectory by 5:45 PM and we ask for a $10 donation to pay for our donated meal. On Tuesday, April 30th, we will have our practice for Confirmation, at 7 PM in the church. All candidates and their sponsors are expected to be in attendance. Also, the older students who are going to make their First Communion at the Confirmation mass also need to attend with their parents. This summer, we will again have Vacation Bible School. It will run from Monday, June 24th through Friday, June 28th. This event will be educational, spiritual, faith-based, and fun. It will include study, crafts, music, snacks, skits, and play. Please put these dates on your calendar and plan to be a part of it. We will also need adult and teen volunteers to help lead and teach.

FINANCES AND OUR FUTURE….

When I came to this Parish as Pastor, one of the most important and specific requests involved Financial Information and how we needed to share this information with you for our planning and our future. I must admit, it is not hard to do. We have published the amount collected each week and we are refining and defining this as time has passed. However, as I look back at seven years of working here at IHM, I am amazed that the average amount contributed each week has remained consistent. Our collections have not grown. The only reason we can continue to exist as a Parish and Community of faith is because of the rental income we receive from the Charter School. If they were not here, we would be in a dire situation. This coming Tuesday, April 23rd, at 7:00 PM, we have a Finance Committee Meeting. I implore you to consider being part of this important Committee. We need to look at ways to improve our situation and use our resources in important ways for our Parish growth. We are in the process of negotiating with companies for the work in our Parking lot; we have these funds set aside, but we are also far off our goal at raising money to tuck point the church. This is a necessary and important task as well. Some people think I talk too much about finances, others think I do not stress it enough. I know we all have bills to pay and expenses to meet for our homes and families. Yet, when utilities rise and gas prices increase, we pay these bills grumbling. Don’t forget that the church has these same bills as well! More information will be coming as we move to the end of the year, but I do implore and pray that you take some time to look at how we all must somehow face the financial burdens that we have and creative ways to look for financial support to move into our future. FINANZAS Y NUESTRO FUTURE…

Cuando llegue a esta parroquia como Pastor, una de las peticiones mas importantes y especificas involucraba la Información Financiera y como necesitábamos compartir esta información con ustedes para nuestra planificación y nuestro futuro. Debo admitir, no es difícil de hacer. Hemos publicado las cantidades recaudadas cada semana y estamos refinando y definiendo esto a medida que el tiempo ha pasado. Sin embargo, cuando miro hacia atrás a los siete años de trabajar aquí en IHM, me sorprende que la cantidad se ha mantenido constante. Nuestras colecciones no han aumentado. La única razón que puede seguir existiendo como una parroquia y la comunidad de fe es por el ingreso de alquiler que recibimos de la Escuela Chárter. Si no estuviera aquí, estaría en una situación desesperada. El próximo Martes, 23 de Abril a las 7:00 PM, tendremos una reunión del Comité de Finanzas. Le suplico que considere ser parte de este importante comité. Tenemos que buscar la manera de mejorar nuestra situación y utilizar nuestros recursos de forma importante para nuestro crecimiento Parroquial. Estamos en el proceso de negociación con las empresas para el trabajo de nuestro estacionamiento, tenemos estos fondos reservados, pero también estamos muy lejos de nuestro objetivo en la recaudación de dinero para el trabajo del techo de la iglesia. Esta es una tarea necesaria e importante también. Algunas personas piensan que hablo demasiado acera de las finanzas, otros piensan que no lo estreso suficientemente. Se que todos tenemos cuentas que pagar y gastos para satisfacer a nuestros hogares y familias. Sin embargo, cuando se eleva el costo de las utilidades y el precio del gas aumenta, tenemos que pagar estas facturas refunfuñando. No se olvide que la iglesia tiene estos mismos gastos también! Mas información vendrá a medida que avancemos hacia el final del año, pero yo imploro y pido que se tome un tiempo para ver como todos nosotros de alguna manera debemos afrontar la carga financiera que tenemos y maneras creativas de buscar apoyo financiero para entrar en nuestro futuro.
