Dear Parents/Guardians and Students, To those families new to the Berry Creek Middle School community, we warmly welcome you to an energetic and responsive educational environment, and to those BCMS veterans, we wish you another successful and enriching year. We are excited and enthusiastic about the coming year, and are confident that it will offer numerous opportunities for students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We trust that students have enjoyed a restful summer, and that they are ready to begin a new and exciting year at BCMS. At BCMS we strive to create a positive and caring environment where decisions are based on what is best for students. We offer a variety of specials offerings (PE, Music, Art, Current Events, Personal Development etc.), opportunities for students to be challenged (Advanced Math and Seminar), classes for students to continue their growth in Spanish (Social Studies and Spanish Literacy), the AVID program for first generation students with a desire to pursue post-secondary opportunities and intervention classes for students who need more support to be successful. Through these courses, BCMS provides programming so ALL students can achieve at high levels. I am very excited to begin this year and look forward to working with all of our BCMS families. I consider myself very lucky to be a part of the Berry Creek Middle School family. Important Dates: Summer Open House: August 10th, 9:00-3:00 During this time, students will receive their schedules, their locks, lockers and have their pictures/School ID taken. Students can also bring their school supplies with them and store them in their lockers. Our computer labs will also be open so if you’ve not yet registered online you’ll be able to do so. In addition we’ll have our sweatshirts and t-shirts for sale and you’ll also be able to register for PwrHrs with The Youth Foundation. Parents will also pay for fees at this time (we accept cash and checks). Please see fee information below. If you’re unable to attend this day, students will receive their schedules and their lockers on the first day of school. This year there will be a specific order that you’ll visit each of the stations so please enter through our Main Entrance doors. FEES: Art- $15 Industrial Arts- $15 Technology (for use of computers and printers)- $15 Music (Percussion, Band, Orchestra)- $15 Planners- $5 Athletics: $25 per sport (a physical will also have to be on file) First Day of School: August 18th Students should arrive at school no later than 8:20 if not riding the bus. 6th graders will be gathered in the gymnasium, 7th graders will be in the cafeteria and 8th graders will be in the auditorium. Students should be in uniform and bring their school supplies with them if they did not already bring them in on the 11th. Students should also bring their lunches with them, or have money in their account to purchase a lunch. If you had your picture taken on the 11th, please also bring your School ID. Estimados padres de familia, tutores y estudiantes, Para aquellas familias que recién se integran a nuestra comunidad de la Escuela Secundaria de Berry Creek, les damos la más calurosa de las bienvenidas a este medio ambiente educativo lleno de energía y respuesta inmediata, y a aquellos que ya son veteranos de BCMS, les deseamos que tengan otro año exitoso y provechoso. Estamos emocionados y muy entusiastas acerca del año que viene, y tenemos la confianza que ofrecerá numerosas oportunidades para que los estudiantes crezcan académica, social y emocionalmente. Confiamos en que los estudiantes hayan disfrutado de un verano reparador, y que estén listos para comenzar un nuevo y emocionante ciclo escolar en BCMS. En BCMS nos esforzamos en crear un ambiente positivo y de cuidado donde las decisiones estén basadas en lo que es mejor para los estudiantes. Ofrecemos una variedad de clases especiales (educación física, música, arte, eventos actuales, desarrollo personal, etc.), oportunidades para que los estudiantes sobresalientes sientan un reto (matemáticas avanzadas y seminario), clases para que los estudiantes continúen su crecimiento en español (ciencias sociales y lectoescritura en español), el programa AVID para los estudiantes de primera generación que tienen el deseo de seguir oportunidades en estudios posteriores a la preparatoria y clases de intervención para estudiantes que necesitan más apoyo para ser exitosos. Por medio de estas clases BCMS otorga la programación para que TODOS los estudiantes se puedan desempeñar en altos niveles. Estoy muy emocionada de comenzar este año y deseo poder trabajar con todas nuestras familias de BCMS. Me considero muy afortunada de ser parte de Berry Creek Middle. Fechas importantes: Día para conocer la escuela: 10 de agosto de 9:00 a 3:00 pm Durante este espacio, los estudiantes recibirán sus horarios, sus candados, casilleros y se les tomarán sus fotos/credencial escolar. Los estudiantes también pueden traer sus útiles escolares para que los guarden en sus casilleros. Nuestros laboratorios de computadoras estarán abiertos por si aún no se han inscrito por internet lo puedan hacer. Adicionalmente tendremos sudaderas y camisetas a la venta, podrán inscribirse en PwrHrs con Youth Power 365. Los padres de familia también pueden pagar sus cuotas en ese día (aceptamos cheques y efectivo). Por favor vean la información de cuotas a continuación. Si no les es posible asistir este día, los estudiantes podrán recibir los horarios y sus casilleros el primer día de clases. Este año habrá un orden específico para que visiten cada una de las estaciones aso que por favor entren por las puertas principales. CUOTAS Arte- $15 Artes industriales- $15 Tecnología (por usar las computadoras e impresoras)-$15 Música (percusión, banda, orquesta)- $15 Agendas- $5 Deportes $25 por deporte (también debemos contar con el examen físico vigente) Primer día de escuela: 18 de agosto: Si no se vienen en el autobús, los estudiantes deben llegar a la escuela a más tardar 8:20am. Los alumnos del 6º grado se reunirán en el gimnasio, los del 7º en la cafetería y los de 8º en el auditorio. Los estudiantes ya deben venir uniformados y con sus útiles escolares con ellos si no es que los trajeron ya el día 11. Los estudiantes también deben traer su almuerzo o dinero para su cuenta y comprarse uno. Si se tomaron la foto en el día 11, por favor también que traigan sus credenciales de identificación. Noche de regreso a clases: 25 de agosto del 2016 (6:00-7:00 pm)
