would like to thank all of you for your gracious welcome extended to Fr. Bao, Fr. Juan and myself this past Sunday. Your smiles, embrazos and words of hospitality did a lot to calm our “opening day jitters”. We feel truly blessed to be able to serve with you this great community of faith.

I

n today’s readings, Moses describes the Word of God as something “already in your mouths and in your hearts; you have only to carry it out.” We can reflect on the Parable of the Good Samaritan in order to understand what it means to have the Word in our hearts; what it means to be Neighbor.

R

eading or listening to the News, it is so easy to focus on the absence of the Word in people’s lives. Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, unrest in the Gaza, poverty throughout the world, natural disasters in Haiti and the Gulf, drug trafficking violence in Mexico, events where it appears that human greed for wealth and power so overpower the quiet voice of God that speaks from the human heart.

T

he Good Samaritan is a great model, one who sees a need and puts aside his own agenda, for a while, in order to assist a stranger who he

treats as brother. Like the Good Samaritan, we need to be attentive and we need to act. In visiting parishes throughout the Archdiocese, I have always been amazed at the way our people respond to the needs of others in our parishes. Food and clothing are provided for the poor, counseling and prayer for the downtrodden, education of many kinds for those who need to be better informed and trained, healthcare for the sick, organization for communities that need structure. Our Catholic community is also involved in secular charitable works, probably with as much time offered in various non-religious- administered food pantries, soup kitchens, senior citizen centers, hospitals as at our Catholic centers. But we can always do more.

I

firmly believe that every Catholic should be a volunteer of some kind with some charitable group. Let it always be said that we were “Neighbor” to those around us. Msgr. Marc

e gustaría agradecer a todos ustedes por su amable acogida que nos dieron al Padre. Bao, Padre. Juan y a mi el domingo pasado. Sus sonrisas, embrazos y las palabras de la hospitalidad calmaron los "nervios del primer día". Nos sentimos verdaderamente bendecidos y capaces de servir con ustedes esta gran comunidad de fe.

n las lecturas de hoy, Moisés describe la Palabra de Dios como algo que "ya está en su boca y en vuestros corazones; sólo tienes que llevarlo a cabo." Podemos reflexionar sobre la parábola del Buen Samaritano con el fin de entender lo que significa tener la Palabra en nuestros corazones, lo que significa ser vecino.

eer o escuchar las noticias, es tan fácil centrarse en la ausencia de la Palabra en la vida de las personas. Las guerras en Irak y Afganistán, los disturbios en la Franja de Gaza, la pobreza en todo el mundo, los desastres naturales en Haití y el Golfo, la violencia del narcotráfico en México, eventos en los que parece que la codicia humana por la riqueza y el poder para dominar a la sutil voz de Dios que habla del corazón del hombre.

l Buen Samaritano es un gran modelo, alguien que ve una necesidad y deja a un lado su propia agenda, por un tiempo, con el fin de ayudar a un desconocido que le trata como a hermano. Como el buen samaritano, tenemos que estar atentos y tenemos que actuar. Al visitar las parroquias de la Arquidiócesis

rquidiócesis, siempre he sido sorprendido por la forma en que nuestra gente responde a las necesidades de otros en nuestras parroquias. Alimentos y ropa se proporcionan para los pobres, el asesoramiento y la oración por los oprimidos, la educación de muchas clases para aquellos que necesitan estar mejor informados y capacitados, la asistencia sanitaria para los enfermos, organización para las comunidades que necesitan estructura. Nuestra comunidad Católica participa también en las obras de caridad laica, probablemente con el tiempo que se ofrecen en diversas despensas de alimentos no-religiosoadministrado, comedores populares, centros de ancianos, hospitales, en nuestros centros Católicos. Pero siempre podemos hacer más.

reo firmemente que todo Católico debe ser un voluntario de algún tipo con algún grupo de beneficencia. Que siempre se pueda decir que somos "Vecino" para los que nos rodean.

Is there anyone sick among you? He should ask for the priests of the church. They in turn are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. This prayer uttered in faith will reclaim the one who is ill and the Lord will restore him to health. (James 5:14-15) Why should I be anointed? The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick continues the healing ministry of Jesus by helping those who are in need of spiritual, emotional or physical healing experience the presence of Christ. The sacrament grants the grace of comfort, peace and courage, to face sickness and resist being tempted by discouragement and despair. Is there a difference between being healed and being cured? Yes. A healing takes place on the spiritual level. A healing might include the strength to face what lies ahead and the grace to accept God's will for our lives. A cure speaks of the physical aspects, and sometimes, through this sacrament, people are not only healed, they also are cured. Who should be anointed? Anyone who: Has a serious or chronic illness; is facing surgery; is suffering from the debilitating effects of old age. When should anointing take place? As soon as one becomes seriously ill. If surgery is elective or planned, before being admitted for the surgery. Before the sick person is unconscious, comatose or in the last stages of death. Whenever a new condition or surgery arises or the current condition significantly worsens. What takes place during the anointing? The priest lays hands on the one who is ill and prays over him or her. The priest will also anoint the sick person with oil, the ancient symbol for strength and healing. How can I arrange to be anointed? Anointing is available each weekday morning immediately following the 6:30 and 8:15 Mass. Arrange this by speaking with the priest before Mass. DIOS NECESITA DEL HOMBRE Por Humberto Beltrán

El tema se ve muy blasfémelo se oye como si alguien dijera Dios no puede hacer nada sin mi, pero no es así, ya que el puede actuar de muchas maneras. A lo que me refiero es que: Muchas veces nosotros decimos que somos el móvil que Dios necesita para actuar aquí en la tierra. Por ejemplo decimos que somos sus manos, sus pies, y sus ojos. Podemos decir que Dios necesita del hombre para salvar a la humanidad. Este es un designio amoroso del Señor. Esta es también la primera idea que nos sugiere el evangelio de hoy.

“Amor y Unidad” Cristo mandó a setenta y dos discípulos delante de él. Jesús iba recorriendo pueblos y lugares de Palestina anunciando la llegada del reino de Dios. Un día seleccionó de dos en dos. ¿Por qué de dos en dos y no individualmente? La respuesta es sencilla. Dos personas que trabajan juntas por el Reino de Dios están dando un testimonio de amor y de unidad, así como los esposos, que son dos con su ejemplo de vida dan testimonio de amor y de unidad, ya están predicando sin palabras.

“La Paz Entre Nosotros” El enviado de Cristo lo primero que debe de hacer al entrar en una casa es anunciar la paz. ¡Paz en esta casa! Este saludo no es solo un saludo de cortesía, sino la presencia de una persona que lleva la paz en su corazón y de la cual puede decirse: dichosos los que trabajan por la paz, porque a esos los va a llamar Dios hijos suyos.

“La Presencia y Compromiso con la Comunidad” El apostolado que los setenta y dos discípulos deben realizar es, ante todo, el de la presencia. Jesús les aconseja: “Quédense en esa casa, comiendo y bebiendo lo que les den”. Y después les dice: “No vayan de casa en casa”. Este consejo encierra, una regla muy preciosa de testimonio cristiano. Estamos acostumbrados a predicar en las iglesias o en circunstancias muy especiales, y tal vez hemos olvidado un poco el ritmo corriente de la vida, el ámbito familiar, la presencia y el

compromiso con el pueblo. Jesús nos habla aquí de un apostolado que se realiza a partir de la familia y en el ámbito normal donde transcurre la vida de la humanidad. La presencia de los discípulos no debe ser tan espiritual que se olvide de las necesidades materiales del prójimo. “Sanen a sus enfermos”, les dice Jesús, a fin de que siempre estén presentes las obras de misericordia corporales que son parte del apostolado.

“Ya está aquí el Reino de Dios” Y finalmente, lo que aquellos discípulos debían anunciar es algo muy sencillo, pero al mismo tiempo muy importante y fundamental: “Ya esta aquí el Reino de Dios”. Toda la predicación de Cristo está centrada en el tema del reino de Dios. Pero la misión de Cristo no termina con el anuncio del reino, sino que hace falta establecer el reinado de Dios. Esta es la tarea que Cristo le confío a la iglesia, tarea que nunca acabará, mientras haya un hombre sobre la tierra que necesite ser evangelizado. El evangelio de hoy termina con el relato de la alegría con que los setenta y dos discípulos regresaron después de esta primera experiencia. Este fue el primer ensayo de apostolado que ha dejado normas muy sabias y prudentes para todas las generaciones de apóstoles.

Reflexión Como esposos que formamos una pareja, o como solos, sintámonos también elegidos y enviados por Cristo, no solo a anunciar, sino, sobre todo, a vivir la realidad del Reino de Dios con todas sus exigencias. Demos siempre testimonio de amor y de unidad, trabajemos por la paz y, ante todo, que nuestro apostolado sea presencia y compromiso. Prediquemos con nuestra humilde palabra, pero con nuestra vida, estando junto al prójimo, compartiendo el pan, la mesa, curando sus enfermedades. Todos estos actos han de ser sin duda más elocuentes que las palabras. Ya que los hechos hablan más que un muchas de palabras.

Parents/Guardians must attend an information meeting for the program they plan on enrolling the child in. Registration will occur after the meeting. A copy of baptismal certificate and 1/3 deposit must be brought to registration. Fees: Continuing Education, Non-Sacrament Prep, $45; 1st Year Sacrament Prep, $65; 2nd Year Sacrament Prep, $90

HIGH SCHOOL Confirmation Registration Confirmation 1: July 25, 2010—Hegarty Hall: 6:30 PM English, 7:30 PM Spanish What do you need to register? Parent/guardian and candidate for confirmation must attend the meeting. Parents/ Guardians need to bring copies of their candidate’s baptismal certificate, first communion certificate and $50 deposit (Total Registration fees are $160, $150 if paid in full) to the mandatory meeting. Candidate interviews will follow the meeting. Confirmation 2: August 8, 2010—Hegarty Hall, 6:30 PM English; 7:30 PM Spanish What do you need to register? Parent/guardian and candidate for confirmation must attend the meeting. All outstanding confirmation requirements, certificates and fees should be turned in at that time. A $70 deposit (Total Registration fees are $220, $210 if paid in full) is required at registration. Candidate interviews will follow the meeting.
