John began to baptize in the desert; he preached a baptism of repentance Today, as the curtain of the divine drama rises, we can already hear someone shouting: «Prepare the way of the Lord, level his paths» (Mk 1,3). Today we meet John the Baptist as he sets the stage for Jesus’ coming. Some people thought John himself was the Messiah. He spoke like the prophets of old, saying that man must turn from sin to avoid punishment and turn to God to experience his mercy. But this is a message for all times and places and John spoke it with particular urgency. So a stream of people, from Jerusalem and from all over Judea, flowed into the wilderness with John to hear him preach. Why did John attract so many men and women? Sure, he blasted Herod and the religious leaders, a daring act that fascinated the common people. But he had strong words for them as well: they too were sinners and needed to repent. And when they confessed their sins, he baptized them in the Jordan River. Hence, John the Baptist captivated them because they understood the message of true repentance he was trying to convey. A repentance that was more than just confession of sin —in itself a long step forward and a beautiful one indeed! But repentance based on the belief that only God can both forgive and erase, both settle the debt, clear away the debris of my soul, and straighten up my crooked moral ways. «Do not waste this time of mercy offered by God», Saint Gregory the Great says. Do not waste this time of embracing the purifying love offered to us, we can say to ourselves as the time of Advent unfolds before us. Are we ready to straighten the paths for our Lord this Advent? Could I make this the time for a truer, more searching confession in my life? John called for sincerity —sincerity with oneself— and abandonment to God’s mercy. In doing so he helped people to live for God, to understand that living is a matter of fighting to open up the paths of virtue and letting God’s grace vivify their soul with his joy. IMMACULATE CONCEPTION. Monday, December 8th is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and is a day of obligation. Out mass schedule is: 6:30 a.m. English, 8:00 a.m. School mass and 7:00 p.m. bilingual mass. The Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the St. Michael Chapel continues next Tuesday, December 9th from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. MISSALS. The St. Joseph Sunday Missals for the new year 2015 are available after the Masses. You can also get them in the rectory during office hours. The cost is $5.00 each. ENVELOPES. “JUNTOS CONSTRUYENDO EL REINO DE DIOS”

Apareció Juan bautizando en el desierto, proclamando un bautismo de conversión

Hoy, cuando se alza el telón del drama divino, podemos escuchar ya la voz de alguien que proclama: «Preparad el camino del Señor, enderezad sus sendas» (Mc 1,3). Hoy, nos encontramos ante Juan el Bautista cuando prepara el escenario para la llegada de Jesús. Algunos creían que Juan era el verdadero Mesías. Pues hablaba como los antiguos profetas, diciendo que el hombre ha de salir del pecado para huir del castigo y retornar hacia Dios a fin de encontrar su misericordia. Pero éste es un mensaje para todos los tiempos y todos los lugares, y Juan lo proclamaba con urgencia. Así, sucedió que una riada de gente, de Jerusalén y de toda Judea, inundó el desierto de Juan para escuchar su predicación. ¿Cómo es que Juan atraía a tantos hombres y mujeres? Ciertamente, denunciaba a Herodes y a los líderes religiosos, un acto de valor que fascinaba a la gente del pueblo. Pero, al mismo tiempo, no se ahorraba palabras fuertes para todos ellos: porque ellos también eran pecadores y debían arrepentirse. Y, al confesar sus pecados, los bautizaba en el río Jordán. Por eso, Juan Bautista los fascinaba, porque entendían el mensaje del auténtico arrepentimiento que les quería transmitir. Un arrepentimiento que era algo más que una confesión del pecado —en si misma, ¡un gran paso hacia delante y, de hecho, muy bonito! Pero, también, un arrepentimiento basado en la creencia de que sólo Dios puede, a la vez, perdonar y borrar, cancelar la deuda y barrer los restos de mi espíritu, enderezar mis rutas morales, tan deshonestas. «No desaprovechéis este tiempo de misericordia ofrecido por Dios», dice San Gregorio Magno. —No estropeemos este momento apto para impregnarnos de este amor purificador que se nos ofrece, podemos decirnos, ahora que el tiempo de Adviento comienza a abrirse paso ante nosotros. ORACION DE ADVIENTO

¡Preparemos los caminos ya se acerca el Salvador y salgamos, peregrinos, al encuentro del Señor.Ven, Señor, a libertarnos, ven, tu pueblo a redimir; purifica nuestras vidas y no tardes en venir. El rocío de los cielos sobre el mundo va a caer, el Mesías prometido, hecho niño, va a nacer. De los montes la dulzura, de los ríos leche y miel, de la noche será aurora la venida de Emmanuel. Te esperamos anhelantes ya sabemos que vendrás; deseamos ver tu rostro y que vengas a reinar. Consolaos y alegraos, desterrados de Sión, que ya viene, ya está cerca, él es nuestra salvación.

Padre, todos los elementos de la naturaleza obedecen tu mandato. Te alabamos y te damos gracias por tu protección durante la temporada de huracanes. LA INMACULADA CONCEPCION. Mañana lunes 8 de diciembre es la fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción y es fiesta de guardar. Nuestro horario de misas para ése día es: 6:30 a.m. inglés, 8:00 a.m. misa de la escuela y 7:00 p.m. misa bilingüe. ADORACION. La adoración del Santísimo en la capilla de San Miguel continúa el próximo martes 9 de diciembre de 7:00 a.m. a 6:00 p.m MISALES. Los misales y calendarios para el nuevo año están a la venta los domingos después de la misa. El precio del misal es de $6.50 y el calendario $2.00. También los pueden obtener en la rectoría en horas de oficina. SOBRES. El postulantazo. La edad para ser reci bida. Puede ser recibida cada persona desde los quince hasta los treinta anos. En primer lugar hay que reparar en el espíritu que inspira a la persona dada y en su carácter, si tiene la fuerte voluntad y el valor para seguir las huellas de Jesús, y esto con gozo y alegría, porque Dios ama a un donador alegre; tiene que despreciar al mundo y a si misma. La falta de la dote nunca será un impedimento para ser aceptada; también todas las formalidades deben ser claras, no aceptar los casos complicados. Sin embargo no pueden ser recibidas las personas melancólicas, inclinadas a la tristeza, con enfermedades contagiosas, caracteres ambiguos, recelosos, inadaptables a la vida religiosa.
