WHAT’S HAPPENING AT ST MARTIN’S THIS WEEK With joy you will draw water at the fountain of salvation. -- Isaiah 12:3 CELEBRATE This Sunday, God rejoices and sings because of us. We read in Zephaniah today that God "will sing joyfully because of you, / as one sings at festivals" (Zephaniah 3:18). We know plenty about singing at festivals. Already our ears are ringing with the songs and carols that anticipate the Christmas season. Paul reminds us of the source of our own double rejoicing: God is the mighty savior who is in our midst (in Zephaniah's words). Because this is so, says Paul, we can rejoice and be at ease. We don't have to worry, for God's peace will stand guard over our hearts and minds. A medieval carol depicts Christmas as "my dancing day" and urges us to enter into the dance. Why all the merrymaking? Because "the Lord is near," as Paul reminds us (Philippians 4:5). He then points to another reason for the dancing: the dawn of the promise of peace, the peace beyond all understanding, that is now within our grasp.

Jubileo de la Misericordia

Sacarán agua con gozo de la fuente de salvación. -- Isaías 12:3 CELEBRA Este domingo, Dios canta y se regocija por nosotros. Leemos hoy en Sofonías que Dios "se llenará de júbilo por tu causa, como en los días de fiesta" (Sofonías 3:18). Sabemos mucho de cantar en festivales. Ya nuestros oídos resuenan con los cantos y villancicos que anticipan la época navideña. Pablo nos recuerda la fuente de este doble regocijo: Dios, tu poderoso salvador, está en medio de ti (en palabras de Sofonías). Por ser así, nos dice Pablo, podemos alegrarnos y estar en paz. No tenemos que inquietarnos, porque la paz de Dios custodiará nuestros corazones y pensamientos. Un villancico antiguo representa la Navidad como "el día de mi baile" y nos urge a tomar parte en el baile. ¿Por qué todo el regocijo? Porque "el Señor está cerca" nos recuerda Pablo (Filipenses 4:5). Kinh Năm Thánh Lòng Thương Xót Lạy Chúa Giêsu Kitô, Chúa dạy chúng con có lòng thương xót như Cha ở trên trời, và bất cứ ai thấy Chúa thì cũng như thấy Chúa Cha. Xin tỏ cho chúng con thấy nhan thánh Chúa để được hưởng ơn cứu độ. Ánh mắt nhìn yêu thương của Chúa đã giải thoát ông Giakêu và Mátthêu khỏi lệ thuộc vào tiền bạc; giúp người đàn bà ngoại tình và bà Mađalêna khỏi cảnh tìm kiếm hạnh phúc nơi những tạo vật. Chúa đã khiến ông Phê-rô khóc than sau khi chối Chúa, và đã bảo đảm Thiên Đàng cho người trộm lành biết thống hối. Xin cho chúng con được nghe tiếng Chúa, như thể Chúa nói riêng với từng người chúng con, những lời Chúa đã nói cùng người đàn bà Samaritan: "Nếu con đã biết được ân huệ của Chúa!" Chúa là hiện thân của Chúa Cha vô hình, của Thiên Chúa toàn năng biểu lộ trên tất cả mọi sự bằng ơn tha thứ và lòng thương xót. Xin cho Giáo Hội trở nên dung nhan hữu hình của Chúa trên khắp thế gian, Chúa đã sống lại và được tôn vinh. Chúa ước cho các mục tử mang lấy thân phận yếu đuối để họ động lòng trắc ẩn đối với những ai mê muội và lầm lạc: xin cho những ai đến gần Chúa cảm thấy như được chính Chúa tìm kiếm, yêu thương và tha thứ. Xin ban Thần Khí Chúa và xin thánh hiến mỗi người chúng con để cho năm Lòng Thương Xót Chúa là năm hồng ân Chúa ban, và cho Giáo Hội, bằng dầu thánh Chúa và lòng nhiệt thành mới đem tin mừng đến cho những người nghèo khó, công bố tự do cho những kẻ bị giam cầm và áp bức, và phục hồi ánh sáng cho những kẻ bị đui mù. Season of Hope Cathedral Performance Series December 12 @ 7:30—8:30 PM …A gi from the heart of San José!  Con nuing its history of over 200 years of  service in the center of San Jose, the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph presents its  20th annual Season of Hope Performance  Series.  Discover the perfect combina on of dignity, hospitality, and concern regarding  those who are re-building their lives, as  local performance groups offer their gi   of talent.  On evenings from December 12th through the 23rd, inside this city’s historic Cathedral, ar sts from the Bay Area  ranging from, the Silicon Valley Ballet,  Cel c Harps, to the San Jose Youth Symphony, the Inter-faith community and  students from local schools, will help inspire over 1000 audience members. Performers will present a free 45- 60 minute  performance, star ng at 7:30 PM.  Each night a representa ve from the Cathedral’s Office of Social Ministry will  share three minutes reflec ng on its  work… fostering the spirit of hope  throughout the year; Monday–Friday  providing food, shelter referral, and a  free on-site Healthcare Clinic in partnership with Gardner Family Healthcare’s  Homeless Project and our newest program Bridges of Hope partnering with  Catholic Chari es, First Chris an Church,  and the Department of Jus ce, helping to  rebuild lives. You our neighbors provide  us with the privilege of serving those living on the margins of our society.  Discover San José’s historic sites and enjoy some of the best restaurants … Take a  walk through Christmas in the Park, enjoy  a free concert inside the Cathedral, and  go ice-ska ng in the circle of palms located next to the Fairmont.  A gi from the heart of San José, the Cathedral is a home to everyone! Its beauty  and concern regarding the most vulnerable in our community is a gi  of hope,
