Build Background Read the title to children and ask them what they see in the cover photograph. Help children use their knowledge of their classroom to think about the book. Build interest with a question such as: ¿Qué ven en nuestro salón de clases?
Introduce the Text Guide children through the text helping with unfamiliar words so they can read the text successfully. Here are some suggestions: Page 2: Explain that this book tells about things we see in a classroom. Suggested language: Vayan a la página 2 del libro. ¿Qué ven? En el libro dice: Yo veo un reloj. Digan la palabra veo. ¿Con qué letra creen que empieza veo? Busquen la palabra veo y señálenla con el dedo. Veo comienza con el sonido /b/. Page 3: ¿Qué ven en la página 3? En el libro dice: Yo veo una ventana. Una comienza con el sonido /u/. Señalen la palabra una con el dedo. Page 4: Remind children that they can use information in the pictures to help them read. Miren la foto de la página 4. ¿Qué ven? ¿Qué creen que dirá el libro? Page 6: What do we see on page 6? El libro dice: Nosotros vemos a la maestra. Digan la palabra nosotros. ¿Con qué letra creen que empieza la palabra nosotros? Busquen la palabra nosotros y señálenla con el dedo. Ahora, vuelvan al comienzo y lean para descubrir qué cosas vemos en un salón de clases.

Choices for Support Concepts of Print Practice early reading behaviors, such as pointing under each word, and reading from left to right.
Phonemic Awareness and Word Work Provide practice as needed with words and sounds, using one of the following activities: • Listening Game Have children listen for words that begin with the same sound. Have children raise their hands if the words begin with the same sound and keep their hands in their laps if the beginning letter is different. Say pairs of words, emphasizing the beginning consonant sound: reloj and rojo; ventana and veo; mesa and silla; libros and juguete; maestra and marcador, etc. • Clapping Syllables Have children hear and say syllables in words from the book, including: yo, veo, un, reloj, una, mesa, libros, maestra. Have them clap on each syllable: yo, ve-o, un, re-loj, u-na, me-sa, li-bros, ma-es-tra. • Tracing Letters Materials: magnetic or cardboard letters or letter cards. Have children choose a letter, say the name, and trace the letter.

Building Vocabulary Things in a Classroom Build on the names of things in Nuestro salón de clases. Suggested language: Pensemos en todas las cosas que vemos en nuestro salón de clases. ¿Qué ven en el salón? ¿Ven un globo terráqueo o un mapa? ¿Ven un estante para los libros? As children suggest different things they see, write their words on the board or on a large strip of paper. Begin the list with: Yo veo. (Possible suggestions: bandera, sillas, pizarrón, mapa, marcadores, puerta, carteles, lapiceras, lápices, niños, etc.) After children have made their suggestions, read the list aloud together, pointing to each word. ¡Miren todas las cosas que vemos en nuestro salón de clases!
Writing Prompt Read aloud the following prompt. Have children draw and write their response, using the writing prompt on page 6. Draw a picture of one more thing you can see in a classroom. Write about how you use it.
