Reflecting on God’s Word When Jacob Marley appears to Ebenezer Scrooge at the beginning of A Christmas Carol, he wears a long chain, clasped around his middle, “made of cash-boxes, keys, padlocks, ledgers, deeds, and heavy purses wrought in steel.” He tells Scrooge that he wears the chain he forged in life, and now he wanders the earth because in life his spirit never went beyond “the narrow limits of our money-changing hole.” Old Marley’s life had been about money until it ended; now he pays the price. Luke calls on his community to consider its use of money. In today’s parable a steward has been caught squandering his master’s property. Seeing that his days are numbered, the steward acts quickly to ensure that he will have friends at the end. Surprisingly, the master commends him for “acting prudently.” Jesus then comments that the children of this world have more gumption than the children of light, using their money to make friends. Three other comments follow: Use money to make friends for eternity; trustworthiness in small matters and earthly wealth will lead to being trusted with true wealth, i.e. God’s kingdom; and you have to choose between God and “mammon” (whatever holds your deepest trust other than God). In a nutshell, use your money to serve; allow God to save. Jesus is in line with the prophet Amos, who castigates the businessmen of his day for cheating the poor and needy. God is on the side of these little ones. They are the ones we are to befriend by using our money for their good. Jesus, who came as a “ransom for all” (1 Timothy 2:4), is our true wealth. —James A. Reflexionemos sobre la Palabra de Dios

Cuando Jacob Marley se le apareció a Ebenezer Scrooge al comienzo de la película estadounidense A Christmas Carol (“Los Fantasmas de Navidad” en Latinoamérica y en España “Cuento de Navidad”) se le ve con una larga cadena ceñida a su cuerpo y “hecha de arcas de seguridad, llaves, candados, registros de contabilidad, escrituras y bolsas pesadas de acero”. Él le dice a Scrooge que lleva la cadena que él mismo se forjó en vida y ahora vaga por la tierra, “porque en mi vida terrenal nunca mi espíritu vagó más allá de los estrechos límites de nuestra ventanilla para el cambio”. La vida del viejo Marley había sido avariciosa hasta el final; ahora pagaba el precio. El evangelista Lucas exhorta a su comunidad a considerar el uso de su dinero. En la parábola de hoy un administrador ha sido sorprendido despilfarrando los bienes de su amo. Viendo que sus días como empleado estaban contados el administrador actúo prontamente asegurándose de poder contar con amigos al final. Otros comentarios siguen: Gánense amigos que, cuando ustedes mueran, los reciban en el cielo; el que es fiel en las cosas pequeñas, también es fiel en las grandes, por ejemplo, fiel al reino de Dios; y no hay criado que pueda servir a dos amos, o sea, no se puede servir a Dios y al dinero. En pocas palabras, usa tu dinero para servir a Dios. Jesús está de acuerdo con el profeta Amós, que castiga a los empresarios de su época por engañar a los pobres y necesitados. Dios está al lado de estos pequeños y son con los que debemos hacer amistad y usar nuestro dinero para beneficio de ellos. Stewardship Reflection “No servant can serve two masters. He will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (wealth).” LUKE 16:13 Is money a “god” that you put before God? Giving money to support the Church and other charity is a pillar of our Faith, just like attending Mass every Sunday and participating in parish ministry. Giving money frees us from being a slave to money and increases our dependence on God and to trust that He will provide all that we need.

Reflexion de la Corresponsabilidad "Ningún siervo puede servir a dos señores. Porque aborrecerá a uno y amará al otro, o se apegará a uno y despreciará al otro. WHAM Services/Servicios de WHAM What is More Than Bricks? More Than Bricks Over the past few years we have been “saving for a rainy day”, and St. Cyril’s has been doing this with our Capital Repairs offering. Brothers and sisters, in the past three months it has been “pouring”, and while we are covering the cost of the $300,000 emergency repair to the plumbing pipes and A/C lines, we need to replenish that rainy day fund. Our facilities are aging; it is almost certain that sooner or later there will be another major repair. More Than Bricks is an opportunity for us to save for the next “rainy day”. That is what “More Than Bricks” means; we are not just “fixing what is broken”, we are allowing this community to continue the ministry to which God has called us. ¿Que es “Más que Ladrillos”? Más Que Ladrillos Durante los últimos años hemos estado ahorrando para situaciones inesperadas y San Cirilo ha estado haciendo esto con nuestra ofrenda para Reparaciones Mayores. Hermanos y hermanas, en los últimos tres meces se nos ha soltado un diluvio, y mientras que estamos cubriendo el costo de $300,000 para reparar la tubería del aire acondicionado, también necesitamos restaurar ese fondo para emergencias. Nuestras instalaciones son cada vez más antiguas, y es casi seguro que antes de lo esperado habrá otra reparación que hacer. La campaña “Más que Ladrillos” es una oportunidad para que ahorremos para emergencias como esta que vengan en un futuro. Eso quiere decir “Más que Ladrillos”, no solo estamos reparando lo que necesita reparación, sino que estamos permitiéndole a esta comunidad a que continúe el ministerio al cual Dios nos ha llamado.

Legion of Mary The Legion of Mary (English) invites you to participate on the recitation of the Rosary at 8:15am on Sunday for the month of October. Aprende a entrar en un trato personal, íntimo y profundo con Dios. En TOV adquieres fortaleza emocional, sentido de la vida y alegría de vivir. Superarás tus miedos, temores, rencores, ansiedades, depresiones. Conoce diferentes formas de orar.

Comenzando a las 3:00 pm – debajo del árbol central en el jardín.

Este Taller se compone de 10 Sesiones de 1 1/2 horas por semana en español.

Traiga a su gato, perro, perico, pez, hámster, hurón, o cualquier otra mascota que tenga a la Bendición de los Animales en el jardín, en memoria del gran amor que le tuvo San Francisco de Asís a todas las criaturas.

Acomodadores Usted quizás piense que los acomodadores toman en su mayor parte la ofrenda durante la misa, pero su ministerio implica mucho más que esto, En algunos lugares les llaman Ministros de Hospitalidad, porque su papel principal es servir a la comunidad así como dar la bienvenida y acomodar a las personas que atienden a la misa.
