LENTEN RETREAT Two parallel Lenten Retreats in English and Spanish between Monday and Wednesday, February 25th, 26th & 27th, will take place at St. Joseph’s Center and the lower church, at 9:00AM & 7:00PM. Redemptorist Fathers, Patrick Keyes and Frank Mulvaney will lead the retreat. STATIONS OF THE CROSS Stations of the Cross will take place every Saturday at 9:30 AM following the morning Eucharist. DAILY SCRIPTUAL REFLECTIONS IN A BOOKLET “ FIVE MINUTES WITH THE WORD” “Five Minutes with the Word” is a daily meditation based on the Mass readings for each day of Lent. Take it with you on the subway or bus or put it by the bedside. LENTEN COIN HOLDERS Lenten coin holders are available in the vestibule of the church. You may want to use this as a means of “almsgiving” which is one of the practices we focus on during Lent. If possible, we ask that you change coins into bills when you return the holder. FILM “MEANT TO BE” “Meant to Be” is a modern, faith inspiring drama. Film showing will take place on Sunday, March 3rd, at 4:00PM in the theatre of St. Joseph Center. Entrance to the center is behind the church on Newkirk Ave. BREAD & SOUP MEAL A simple meal of soup & bread is a wonderful way to nourish your hunger with a scaled-down meal. It reminds us that God is the One for whom we ultimately hunger and thirst. Moreover, the meal gives us an opportunity to meet new friends in our parish family. When & Where? TRUST

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

“In God We Trust” marks the currency of our nation. It should mark our lives as well. In fact, however, we hesitate to trust others, including God, absolutely. We prefer to hold our trust in reserve, fearful of being hurt or betrayed. Today’s readings remind us that Lent is a season of trust - a trust that transforms. God makes a remarkable promise to Abraham. To receive this promise, all Abraham need do is trust. Paul tells the Philippians that they too must trust that they are the beneficiaries of God’s bountiful grace; that they are not citizens of any earthly kingdom, but citizens of heaven. These two readings invite us to hear the Gospel account of deep trust - trust that God will fulfill all promises and that Jesus’ passage will lead to transformation and new life.

By now, many may have failed in Lenten discipline to some measure or another: the daily doughnut is simply too alluring, or a furtive puff on a cigarette irresistible. There is meaning even in the failure, though, a kind of reminder that we cannot save ourselves. Part of the power of Lent is that we do it together, and although individuals decide on different ways to keep it, it is fundamentally the same journey. We fall, we get up, we keep moving. The desire to “give something up” for Lent is an age‑old impulse in the Christian heart. We get better at it over the years, and move more deeply into the meaning and message of acts of sacrifice; so there is no shame in stumbling, as long as we are not discouraged by the failure and give up. We are clearing space in our lives, after all, and some of the things we desire to give up are worth rooting out completely anyway. What do we do with the space we have cleared out by our sacrifice? The Lenten question of giving up is balanced by the Easter question of our response to Christ’s embrace of us in love: “What are you taking on for Easter?”

MEN’S & WOMEN’S CONFERENCE FOR THE YEAR OF FAITH The Diocese of Brooklyn is hosting a bilingual conference (Spanish/English) for men & women at the Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston. The men’s conference is March 2, and the women’s conference is March 9, both from 8:30AM to 4:00PM. Registration forms are at the rear of the church and must be returned to diocese by February 22nd. DIOCESAN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS The annual Diocesan Wedding Anniversary celebration will take place on Saturday, April 27th at the Immaculate Conception Church, located at 86-45 Edgerton Blvd., in Jamaica, Queens. Couples celebrating their 25th, 30th, 40th, and 50th anniversary and above are invited to attend with their families. The Wedding Anniversary Mass will begin at 11AM. Jezus wziął z sobą Piotra, Jana i Jakuba i wyszedł na górę, aby się modlić. Gdy się modlił, wygląd Jego twarzy się odmienił, a Jego odzienie stało się lśniąco białe. A oto dwóch mężów rozmawiało z Nim. Byli to Mojżesz i Eliasz. Ukazali się oni w chwale i mówili o Jego odejściu, którego miał dokonać w Jerozolimie. Tymczasem Piotr i towarzysze snem byli zmorzeni. Gdy się ocknęli, ujrzeli Jego chwałę i obydwóch mężów, stojących przy Nim. Gdy oni odchodzili od Niego, Piotr rzekł do Jezusa: Mistrzu, dobrze, że tu jesteśmy. Postawimy trzy namioty: jeden dla Ciebie, jeden dla Mojżesza i jeden dla Eliasza. Nie wiedział bowiem, co mówi. Gdy jeszcze to mówił, zjawił się obłok i osłonił ich; zlękli się, gdy [tamci] weszli w obłok. A z obłoku odezwał się głos: To jest Syn mój, Wybrany, Jego słuchajcie! W chwili, gdy odezwał się ten głos, Jezus znalazł się sam. A oni zachowali milczenie i w owym czasie nikomu nic nie oznajmili o tym, co widzieli.

Zapraszamy do udziału w presentacji prac plastycznych własnej twórczości w wystawie pod nazwą "Rożne Drogi Wiary". Wystawa będzie miała miejsce w galerii w przy parafialnym Centrum Kulturalnym im. Św. Jozefa. Celem prezentacji jest twórcze włączenie się w tegoroczne obchody Roku Wiary w Kościele Powszechnym. Chcemy poprzez dzieła sztuki przybliżyć to, czego mowa, choć bogata, często nie jest wstanie w pełni wyrazić: wiele dróg do tego samego Boga. Szczegóły na temat wystawy znajdziecie Państwo w ulotkach w tyle kościoła.

Tabor jest górą paradoksów. Razem z Apostołami oglądamy niepojęte piękno przemienionego człowieczeństwa Jezusa, a jednocześnie słyszymy rozmowę o „Jego odejściu, którego miał dokonać w Jerozolimie”. Chwała i śmierć, piękno i upodlenie. W życiu też zapewne nieraz stawaliśmy przed podobnymi paradoksami. Pytaliśmy: Jaki w tym sens? Po co to wszystko? Czy nie można by inaczej? ADORACION AL SANTISIMO:

La frase “Confiamos en Dios” está grabada en los billetes de este país. También debería estar grabada en lo más íntimo de nuestro ser. Sin embargo, la verdad es que dudamos de confiar en los demás, inclusive en Dios. Preferimos poner nuestra confianza en reserva, temerosos de que nos lastimen o nos traicionen. Las lecturas de hoy nos recuerdan que la Cuaresma es un tiempo para la confianza - la confianza que transforma. Dios hace una sorprendente promesa a Abraham. Para recibirla, lo único que Abraham necesita es confiar. Pablo le dice a los filipenses que ellos, también, deberán confiar que son los beneficiarios de la generosa gracia de Dios; que no son ciudadanos de un reino terrenal, sino del cielo. Estas dos lecturas nos invitan a escuchar el relato de un Evangelio de gran confianza - confianza que Dios cumplirá sus promesas y que el paso de Jesús nos llevará a la transformación y a la nueva vida.

La Cuaresma nos llama a la conversión, a la cual deberíamos estar dedicados toda el año. En muchas parroquias latinas la cuaresma también es tiempo de misiones. De niño recuerdo haber participado cada año en las misiones de mi parroquia. Escuchábamos a los predicadores con curiosidad, ya que aparecían solo una vez al año y luego se regresaban a lugares lejanos y desconocidos. Nunca imagine que algún día yo también estuviera como predicador de misiones. Me gustaría darles un resumen del mensaje que he sembrado en varias parroquias. Las misiones no son para repetir doctrina, sino para evangelizar a los bautizados. Con cinco temas se puede evangelizar a los bautizados recordándoles los cinco puntos claves del evangelio cristiano: 1) Dios nos ama y nos hizo para él; 2) Nosotros hemos pecado y sufrimos las consecuencias; 3) Dios nos manda a su Hijo para librarnos del mal; 4) Jesús desea formar parte de nuestras vidas personales, ¡invitémoslo! y 5) Jesús llena nuestro corazón con el poder y la presencia de su Espíritu.
