If you have not registered, please pick-up a Registration Form (at the back of the church), fill it out and either place it in the collection basket or mail it to the parish office. PARISH MEMBERSHIP: Registration and regular use of envelopes are essential to the proper administration of a Parish and are necessary in order to become a properly identified member of a Parish Family.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK

If you have a serious illness, are facing hospitalization and/or surgery, you should arrange to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. You may remember “Last Rites” but the correct name is Anointing of the Sick, which is not limited to the dying and which should be celebrated before the sick person is unconscious, comatose or in the last stages of death. The Anointing is offered each weekday morning upon request, during the 7:25 AM Mass. If you or family members are unable to attend Mass, Fr. John will come to the home on THURSDAYS, 9:00 a.m. Arrangements must be made by the prior Monday afternoon to allow time for proper preparation. Please call the Parish Office: 676-4403

THE SACRAMENT OF PENANCE

“The Sacrament of Penance”, is celebrated during our monthly Reconciliation Prayer Service which is at 7:00 pm on the first Wednesday of each month. It is imperative to be present for the entire service for the participation in the service is the penance. The next service will be January 6th, 2010 This Sacrament is also offered by appointment. Please contact the Parish Office at (676-4403)

SACRIFICIAL GIVING A normal Sacrificial Giving program is a 10% contribution to a charitable organization or church. St. Catherine’s program asks for 4% of your income, 2% for our general parish support and 1% for maintenance and repairs, both through the use of our weekly Offertory envelopes. Another 1% goes to our ongoing faith formation programs through the Diocesan Development Fund Drive (envelopes and statements sent by the Diocese). For example, if you make $500.00 a week, your total contribution at 4 % would be $20.00 a week. Another way to give back to God a part of the blessings He has given to each of us is to mention St. Catherine’s in your will. Please give prayerful thought to supporting St. Catherine’s in this way.

MARRIAGE PREPARATION PROCESS Canon Law stipulates that weddings are to take place in the Parish where either the bride, the groom, or their parents reside. In order to begin the Marriage Preparation Process, you must pick up A Guideline and Policy Booklet for Weddings from our Parish Office and read it thoroughly. Please understand that the marriage preparation in the Diocese of San Bernardino takes a minimum of 6 months and that a wedding date may not be set until specified criteria are met.

The full proceeds of this event will go to support the youth from our parish, that will be attending the World Youth Day celebration in Madrid Spain.

Dear Parishioners: As you may be aware, our parish is sponsoring a group of youth who are planning to attend World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid, Spain. They are working hard to raise funds to defray the cost that will be associated with making this pilgrimage, at which they hope to see the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI. At the present time, we have a group of approximately 10 youth who are interested in attending, together with two adult chaperones. The cost of each attendee is expected to be approximately $3,500. As a major fundraiser for this youth pilgrimage, we are conducting a raffle, which will be expected to raise approximately $13,000 to $15,000. The prize for the winning ticket is $5,000. The drawing will take place at a parish dinner commemorating Valentine’s Day on February 13, 2010. As Pastor, I wish to personally thank you for your past support of our parish needs. I ask you to consider carefully, as this year closes, to purchase one or more of these raffle tickets, at a cost of $100 each (Note only 250 ticket will be sold), as a contribution to support our youth in their quest to make a pilgrimage to World Youth Day 2011. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL CORNER FOOD PANTRY REPORT St. Vincent de Paul Conference at St. Catherine’s would like to thank all those who filled grocery bags with food, cereal and canned goods during our “Brown Bag Food Drive” for the pantry. Over twelve hundred bags were received and are still coming in. Also, because of your generous monetary donations, we were able to purchase and give out 130 turkeys for the Thanksgiving holiday. A SPECIAL THANKS to the Southwest Association of Realtors for the many truckloads of food they collected and brought to our pantry in November. We were able to fill our storage unit with the excess which will carry us through the end of the year. The Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of our parish and the local schools held food drives for our pantry. We are blessed by your participation and generosity.

St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Parish New Years Mass Schedule 2010 2010 Friday, January 1, 2010 Octave Day of Christmas: Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God 9:00 am Mass: This is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation The shepherds went in haste to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child. All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds. And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them. When eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel.

The “Small Faith Communities” Ministry invites all parishioners to participate in a faith sharing process and to join their meetings on the week of The Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord starting December 28, 2009 through January 3, 2010. The goal of this process is to assist us to deepen our relationship with Christ and have a living, vibrant relationship with him by reflecting, sharing on and responding to the Sunday readings. The Scripture message for this week is: “Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you. Awash in the light of Christ, we are called to rise and shine, so that God’s graciousness can be seen by all. In today’s gospel, we read about the journey of the three wise men and how they were guided by a single star in the sky. As they saw the star appear to them, they were filled with joy and happiness for they knew in their hearts that they were going in the right direction. There are many roads we can take in life, but we must always look out for those people that God makes shine so that they may guide us and help us truly find him. PROCESO PARA PREPARACIÓN MATRIMONIAL La Ley Canónica, requiere que la boda se celebre en la Parroquia donde reside la novia o el novio, o sus padres. Solamente la pareja puede hacer los arreglos necesarios, no la familia. La Diócesis de San Bernardino requiere un mínimo de seis meses de preparación para el proceso de los documentos. La Universidad Loyola Marymount y la Diócesis de San Bernardino, están ofreciendo una vez más, Clases de Biblia en español a través del instituto Bíblico Católico. El programa tiene una duración de tres años y las clases se ofrecen un Sábado al mes en el Centro Pastoral. El nuevo Curso comenzara en el mes de Enero del 2010, y todas las personas interesadas pueden participar. No se requieren estudios previos ni experiencia pastoral para inscribirse. Un día de gran esperanza: Hoy el Salvador de la humanidad ha nacido. El nacimiento de un niño trae normalmente una luz de esperanza a quienes lo aguardan ansiosos. Cuando Jesús nació en la gruta de Belén, una gran luz apareció sobre la tierra; una gran esperanza entró en el corazón de cuantos lo esperaban: lux magna, canta la liturgia de este día de Navidad. Ciertamente no fue grande según el mundo, porque, en un primer momento, sólo la vieron María, José y algunos pastores, luego los Magos, el anciano Simeón, la profetisa Ana: aquellos que Dios había escogido.
