MESSAGE FROM THE
PRESIDENT Super Bloom, Superbloom, however you spell it, it is a thing! This year it is supposed to be spectacular. The Southern California desert is a carpet of poppy colors highlighted by Cryptantha and Mojave popcorn flower. Awash with yellows, oranges, blues, and greens. Why do we mention this ...? Well, Spring comes in different ways. Sometimes out like a lion and in like a lamb or just the reverse. With the change in the season and this wonderful winter come the flowers and the runoff from all of that unseasonal snow. With the stimulus of spring, it triggers our senses – smell, sight, touch. It engages our brain to bring back memories and curiosity. Now is the time to go out and enjoy! Take in all the beauty and wonder our lush Sonoran Desert has to offer.

Brain Health
Now that the body is fueled properly, we can learn about strengthening the other areas of our brain!
Keeping the brain active has nothing to do with age, but how we eat and train our body’s control center. Incorporate power foods into your daily diet to maintain a healthy mind, body, and soul. Some foods that are specific to helping support brain health include: Fish, grass-fed beef, eggs, beets, avocados, blueberries, tomatoes, dark leafy greens, oats, nuts and seeds, beans, sage, turmeric, coconut oil, olive oil, and dark chocolate.

Exercising is a great way to stimulate the brain; however, the real power comes from using your 5 senses on a daily basis. Summit’s Brain Booster class is a great way to get involved in the community and train your brain to be stronger! Keeping your 5 senses strong, targets 4 out of the 5 areas of the brain related to your senses. So, allow your brain to have fun by exploring the world around you through active stimulation.
