Bible Study Next Class on Wednesday, February 17th 9am and 7pm There are many stories in the scriptures that give us examples of women who are “changed” by the presence and actions of Jesus. One of these stories is about a woman who bathes Jesus’ feet with her tears and dries them with her hair, then anoints them with an expensive ointment. (Read LK. 7:36-50) There are different accounts of the same story in the gospels and a reading of all of them leads to a deeper understanding of the message each evangelist is giving to his audience. (Mk. 14:3-9, Mt. 26:6-13, Jn. 12:1-8) Enjoy these stories of love poured out! Happy Valentine’s Day! For further information, please call Nancy at 949-766-8126 or Barb at 949-768-1170.

To be announced...

The First Sunday of Lent JMJ 10 February, 2016 My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. “Here we go again . . .” I heard one priest say this a few years back when we were having a meeting discussing the Lenten Season. It seemed to me that to him it looked like the “same ol’ same ol’”, going through the motions, rituals, Liturgical Celebrations, etc. at this time of the year. On the other hand, this morning I saw a small card in the vestibule that reads boldly: “Best Lent Ever!” So how do we make a Journey through this Lenten and Easter Season that will be relevant, meaningful, and life-changing that will have its effects beyond the days and weeks that comprise these seasons. Repeating the latter phrase: “Best Lent Ever!” Making a conscious choice to engage God’s invitation is a start. The invitation to “return to Him with your whole heart and to rend our hearts and not just our garments.” Let us spend Lent focused on the DO’S (Prayer, Fasting & Abstinence and Almsgiving) and not just the DON’TS (No Meat, No Candy, etc.). Our Parish is providing many ways and means to engage and journey meaningfully through these coming days. We have the Mass with Anointing of the Sick, Lenten Dinners, Stations of the Cross, Lenten Day of Penance, among many. We have Outreach Ministries that are always in need of volunteers: Burrito Ministry, Recycling, etc. This weekend, Pat Walloch and German Roa will be speaking with you regarding the Annual PSA. This also is a perfect opportunity for us to listen, pray and respond to the appeal not just as an almsgiving because of an obligation. Please listen, pray and reflect on the

February 14, 2016 message they will share with you. The response should come from a grateful heart that is willing to pledge and to participate more fully in the mission entrusted to us by Jesus our Lord.

We shall also be handing out a book: “Rediscover Jesus,” which will be the topic of the videos of Faith Testimonies of parishioners like you who strive to have a more dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ leading to genuine Discipleship and Stewardship. I do hope we all benefit from their witnessing.

God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval JMJ 10 de febrero 2016 Querida Familia Parroquial, ¡Dios esté siempre con nosotros! "Aquí vamos de nuevo. . .

As our Church enters into the Lenten season, recalling the death of Jesus and preparing to celebrate His resurrection, our RCIA community enters into a liturgical period of purification and enlightenment. The RCIA (Rite of Christian Instruction for Adults) community began formation last year. This community is made up of adults and children seeking full inclusion into the Catholic faith. They have been praying, attending class and studying scripture. All year long they have sought our prayer and support in helping them discern God’s call. Now during the period of purification and enlightenment they, and all of us, will journey emotionally with Jesus into their desert, where they too will come to understand the power of temptation and rejoice in the understanding and knowledge that reconciliation heals sin. The RCIA group will ritualize, at Lenten Mass, the experience of hearing God’s call, the understanding that all of us are frequently blinded from God by today’s culture and finally the ultimate gift from God, resurrection. These rituals while celebrated with the RCIA group are reminders for ALL of us that God has called these people to help “re-evangelize” us. Our prayer’s on their behalf become a prayer for our own renewal. We too are often in a spiritual desert tempted by evil and distant from reconciliation. Let us then pray for one another as the RCIA group leads us joyfully to the Easter Vigil, where they will embrace the full fruits of the Catholic faith. Tom Haas
