At the beginning of this year Pope Francis warned: "The family is also threatened by growing efforts on the part of some to redefine the very institution of marriage," the pope said Jan. 16, hours after warning that Philippine society was "tempted by confusing presentations of sexuality, marriage and the family." "As you know, these realities are increasingly under attack from powerful forces which threaten to disfigure God's plan for creation and betray the very values which have inspired and shaped all that is best in your culture," he said. Last week, on the day of the supreme court decision, Cardinal Di Nardo said: “The Supreme Court's narrow majority decision today is gravely unjust as it attempts to change the nature of marriage. Mandating marriage redefinition across the country is a tragic error harming the common good and the most vulnerable among us. The ruling does not and cannot change what marriage really is. No one and no court can make what is false true. Marriage is a perennial institution, with deep roots in who we are and in our nation's culture and laws. Marriage is and always will be the union between one man and one woman. This truth is inseparable from the duty to honor the God-given dignity of every human person, to protect the beautiful truth of marriage, which concerns the essential well-being of the nation, especially children. Children have a basic right, wherever possible, to know and be loved by their mother and father together. The law has a duty to support every child in this most basic right. With renewed purpose, we call upon all people of good will to promote and defend marriage as the union of one man and one woman for life. The redefinition of legal marriage to include any other type of relationship has serious consequences, especially for religious freedom.

The Scriptures remind us that, “we, many though we are, are one body for we all partake of the one loaf.” How are we using our gifts of time, talent, and material resources to build the body of Christ?

Our Church will continue its efforts to support public policy issues, including a version of the marriage and religious freedom act, which would prohibit the government from discriminating against those who act in accordance with a religious belief or moral conviction that marriage is the union between a man and woman.

And, we shall continue to reach out with love and support to all people, including those who experience same-sex attraction knowing that all people are loved by God and are called to love Him.”

Al principio de este año el Papa Francis advirtió: "La familia también está amenazada por crecientes esfuerzos de parte de algunos para redefinir la propia institución del matrimonio", dijo el Papa el 16 de enero, horas después de la advertencia que la sociedad filipina fue "tentada por confundir presentaciones de sexualidad, el matrimonio y la familia". "Como ustedes saben, estas realidades son cada vez más bajo ataque de poderosas fuerzas que amenazan a desfigurar el plan de Dios para la creación y traicionar los valores que han inspirado y formado todo lo mejor en su cultura," él dijo.

REFLEXIÓN SOBRE LA ADMINISTRACION DE LOS BIENES DE DIOS - Nosotros somos responsables de cómo tratamos este planeta tierra, de cómo amamos, cuidamos y servimos a los demás. La semana pasada, el día de la decisión de la Corte Suprema de justicia, dijo el cardenal Di Nardo: "decisión de la mayoría estrecha de la Corte Suprema hoy es gravemente injusta como intenta cambiar la naturaleza del matrimonio. Redefinición de matrimonio exigiendo en todo el país es un error trágico y daño común bien y los más vulnerables entre nosotros. El fallo no lo hace y no puede cambiar lo que el matrimonio realmente es. Nadie y ninguna corte puede hacer lo que es verdadero, falso.

El matrimonio es una institución perenne, con raíces profundas en quienes somos y en la cultura y las leyes de nuestra nación. El matrimonio es y será siempre la unión entre un hombre y una mujer. Esta verdad es inseparable de la obligación de honrar la dignidad dada por Dios de cada persona humana, para proteger a la hermosa verdad del matrimonio, que se refiere el bienestar esencial de la nación, especialmente a los niños. Los niños tienen un derecho fundamental, siempre que sea posible, a conocer y ser amado por su madre y padre juntos. La ley tiene el deber de apoyar a cada hijo en este derecho más básico.

Nuestra iglesia continuará sus esfuerzos para apoyar cuestiones de políticas públicas, incluyendo una versión de la ley de libertad religiosa, que prohibiría al Gobierno de discriminar a aquellos que actúen de acuerdo con una creencia religiosa o convicción moral de que el matrimonio es la unión entre un hombre y una mujer.

¿SE PUEDE CREMAR A LOS FALLECIDOS? La Iglesia Católica ha cambiado su posición sobre la cremación de las personas que han fallecido, ya que antes no estaba aprobado y se veía como un rechazo a nuestra fe en la resurrección. Desde 1963, La Iglesia ha permitido la cremación de los muertos, siempre y cuando se haga apropiadamente. La Iglesia prefiere y sugiere que el cuerpo del fallecido este presente en los ritos fúnebres. Si se escoge la cremación, se recomienda que sea después de la Misa de Funeral, y solo en casos extraordinarios se celebra con las cenizas presentes. Las cenizas no deben permanecer en la casa o esparcirlas en el mar, deben ser depositadas en un recipiente digno y enterrarlo en un mausoleo o lugar aprobado. Debemos disponer de los muertos con dignidad y respeto esperando la resurrección.

Animo a los fieles de la Arquidiócesis para avanzar con fe, esperanza y amor: fe en la verdad inmutable sobre el matrimonio, espero que estas verdades una vez más prevalece en nuestra sociedad y amor para todos nuestros vecinos. Juntos, debemos aumentar nuestros esfuerzos para fortalecer los matrimonios y familias y reconstruir una cultura del matrimonio. Y, seguiremos con el amor y apoyo a todas las personas, incluyendo a aquellos que experimentan atracción homosexual sabiendo que todas las personas son amadas por Dios y son llamadas a amarle.

As your godchild grows, listen to and share in the struggles and triumphs of living a Christian life, and keep yourself informed on Christian doctrine and values, to be able to answer questions as they arise. Encourage a consistent life of faith through special cards, letters, or gifts which celebrate holy events…Christmas, Easter…and personal growth events…graduation, first job, engagement. (Gift suggestions: a Bible, spiritual book, rosary, religious jewelry, gift certificate for religious goods/books, retreat opportunity.) Participate in, or send assurance of prayer, as your godchild receives the other sacraments, particularly, First Communion and Confirmation, which complete their initiation into the Church community. Be supportive of your godchild’s parents in their role as the primary religious educators of their child. And most importantly, become a model of Catholic living for your godchild, through daily prayer, virtuous living and active participation in parish life and liturgy, particularly weekly Sunday Mass. The program is designed to offer advice, support and formation to parents with common developmental and behavioral problems in children.
