There will be a parish council meeting Thursday, February 26 at 7:00pm in the rectory basement.

THIRTY DAYS PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH From Wednesday, February 18th to March 19th, all the members of our community are invited to join us to pray to St. Joseph for all the spiritual and material needs of our parish. Prayer will begin in the church every day before mass during thirty days.

2015 CHARITY AND DEVELOPMENT APPEAL

The Charity and Development Appeal (CDA) provides each and every family the opportunity to put their faith into action. Every gift makes a difference. For example, $75 can provide an opportunity for a pregnant woman to see her unborn baby for the first time. In the next two weeks is the Annual Charity and Development Appeal (CDA). Our goal for this year is $35,000.00.

Habrá una junta pastoral el jueves 26 de febrero a las 7:00pm en el sótano de la rectoría.

DEVOCION DE LOS TREINTA DIAS A SAN JOSE A partir del miércoles 18 de febrero hasta el 19 de marzo todos los días tendremos el rezo de los treinta días dedicados a San José, Patrón de las necesidades de la Iglesia. Haremos la oración en la Iglesia antes de cada Misa durante los treinta días. Unámonos en esta oración por las necesidades espirituales y materiales de nuestra comunidad parroquial.

LA CAMPAÑA DE CARIDAD Y DESAROLLO 2015 La Campaña de Caridad y Desarrollo (CDA) provee a una y cada familia la oportunidad de poner su fe en acción. Cada donación hace la diferencia. Por ejemplo, $75 puede proveer una oportunidad para una mujer embarazada de ver su bebe en el vientre por primer vez. En las próximas dos semanas será la campaña Anual de Caridad y Desarrollo, (conocido como CDA, por sus siglas en inglés). Nuestra meta es de $ 35,000.00.

BAPTISM INFORMATION Registration in the Parish Office one month prior to the date of which you wish to Baptize Tuesday - Friday 9:00am - 7:00pm (Space is Limited) Requirement:  The child must be less than 6 years of age (Children 7+ must take catechism classes).  Bring the original birth certificate of the child.  If godparents are single (not cohabitating), bring certificate of confirmation.  If godparent are married, bring the marriage certificate from the Catholic Church.  Parents and sponsors must attend one (1) Baptismal preparation class.  We ask for a donation of $60.00.

INFORMACION PARA BAUTIZOS Inscripciones en la oficina parroquial un mes antes de la fecha que desea bautizar de martes a viernes de 9:00am - 7:00pm (cupo limitado)

Requisitos:  El niño/a tiene que ser menor de 6 años (Los niños de 7+ años deben tomar clases de catecismo).  Traer el acta / certificado original de nacimiento del niño/a.  Si los padrinos son solteros (no viviendo en pareja) necesitan presentar una copia del certificado de confirmación.  Si los padrinos son casados tienen que presentar el certificado de matrimonio por la Iglesia Católica.  Padres y padrinos deberán asistir a una (1) clase de preparación para el bautismo.  Hay una donación de $60.00

FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT

PRIMER DOMINGO DE CUARESMA

"And he remained in the desert for forty days." Lent is meant to be like our journey into the desert. Just as Jesus spent these days fighting with temptation and ultimately building up his spiritual strength, we too are called to spend the next forty days doing battle with the things that tempt us. We are invited during this holy season to grow in self-discipline by giving something up for Lent. The long-standing Christian practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving are also important elements of this spiritual battle. When we pray, we open ourselves to the Holy Spirit, thereby squeezing out any spirit of selfishness or evil that threatens to control our hearts. When we fast, we exercise the virtue of temperance, or self-control. This virtue is of tremendous value when we are tempted to indulge our bodily senses in ways that are not healthy or holy. And almsgiving--when it is truly generous--also strengthens us spiritually by shifting our gaze to the needs of others, even to the point of making a personal sacrifice. Today's Gospel tells us that Jesus "was among wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him." What a contrast! The brutal, vicious, bloodthirsty beasts and the pristine, heavenly angels were both there at the same time: each with radically different intentions. And so it is with us. Our reality is also marked by the contrast between the brutality and vice of sin and the grace and goodness of faith. During Lent, we acknowledge the battle between good and evil within our own souls and do what we can to stir up a victory for goodness. This season of purification can help each of us to become a better, holier, and therefore happier person. May we make good use of this, our journey into the desert.

Aunque oficialmente la Cuaresma dio comienzo el pasado Miércoles de Ceniza, hay que tener presente en nuestra reflexión litúrgica que para muchos feligreses la Eucaristía de este domingo es su primera celebración cuaresmal. Por esta razón es bueno hacer énfasis en la invitación de Jesús de creer en la Buena Nueva de arrepentirnos y llevar a cabo una conversión desde el fondo del corazón. Nuestro compromiso de Cuaresma no es tan solo hacer obras penitenciales, que sí nos ayudan, pero que sin fe y confianza en Jesús, quedan vanas. La Cuaresma es un tiempo para comenzar de nuevo y llegar a la conclusión de darnos cuenta de que somos invitados a una conversión sincera: "Se ha cumplido el tiempo y el Reino de Dios ya está cerca. Arrepiéntanse y crean en el Evangelio".

YEAR FOR CONSECRATED LIFE As the Catholic Church prepares to celebrate the Year of Consecrated Life, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations is promoting “Days with Religious” initiatives and resources to help families learn about the consecrated life of religious men and women. Activities will focus on sharing experiences of prayer, service and community life with those living a consecrated life. Los Evangelios del tiempo de Cuaresma son un camino seguro para acercarnos al Señor. Sin embargo, muchas veces nosotros atrofiamos ese camino por no tener claro el cómo hacerlo. Pero existen palabras simples que nos pueden ayudar si cada día nos preguntamos: ¿Dónde encontrar a Dios? En el sacramento de la reconciliación, en el abrazo sincero de perdonar al cónyuge, en la mano amiga que me acepta como soy. ¿Para qué? Para ser perdonados, para encontrar la paz y la tranquilidad, para dar comienzo a una nueva forma de vivir. ¿Cómo? Ya sin ningún rencor y sin resentimientos de toda la vida, volviendo a la casa del Padre como lo hizo el hijo pródigo, haciendo un plan mejor de vida y estableciendo prioridades nuevas. ¡Ánimo! ¡Dios nos espera en esta Cuaresma!
