From the Giving Tree of Needs to the Christmas Tree of Love For many years, during the season of Advent, our parishioners have been sharing God’s love by reaching out to our neighbors in need. Each ornament on the Giving Tree expresses a need of a child in our community. Please help us “undecorate” the Giving Tree by: ▲Taking one or more ornament tags ▲ Buying the gifts listed on the tags ▲Wrapping the gifts ▲Return the wrapped gifts (with the ornament tag securely attached) to the Parish Center this week. Gifts will be delivered after 11:00am Mass on December 18th. Thank you for your generosity in making a child’s Christmas a little brighter.

They cover the special period of Advent preparation known as the Octave before Christmas, December 17 — 23, with December 24 being Christmas Eve and Vespers for that evening being for the Vigil for the Solemnity of Christmas. The importance of “O Antiphons” is twofold because each one highlights a title for the Messiah and each one also refers to the prophecy of Isaiah of the coming of the Messiah. Las “Antífonas de la O" se refieren a las siete antífonas que se cantan o recitan antes de la Magnifica en las Vísperas de la Liturgia de las Horas. Listen to the Word (Isaiah 35:1 — 6a, 10) As you hear this familiar story, what words or phrases in it strike you? What in this reading touches your heart?

Ve tu vida Pregunta para los niños: ¿Por qué la Navidad es un tiempo de felicidad para las personas? Pregunta para los jóvenes: Dios te habla todos los días: Isaías nos dice que nuestros oídos y ojos serán abiertos en Cristo para oír la voz de Dios. ¿Qué escuchas que te está diciendo Dios? Pregunta para los adultos: ¿Qué hay en esta promesa del profeta Isaías que le da esperanza? ¿Cómo has visto que esta promesa se cumple en Cristo?

Look into your life Question for children: Why is Christmas such a time of happiness for people? Revisen el álbum familiar y señalen las fotografías de las personas que son buenos modelos a seguir en la vida cristiana. Cuenten la historia de ellos a la familia. Hablen sobre quiénes han traído la luz de Cristo a sus vidas este año.  Dé un bulbo de amarilis a una persona que esté confinada a su hogar o a un residente de un asilo. Visiten a la persona a menudo durante la temporada de Adviento, y juntos observen cómo la planta crece y florece para Navidad. Activities for the week Take these activities to further reflect:  Discuss with your family what it means to live as a follower of Jesus in the world today. Using the news, discuss for each major story how a Christian would respond. What would Jesus do in each situation?  Prepare for Christmas by talking together about family members who have been influential in your lives. Go through the family album and point out pictures of people who are good role models of Christian living. Tell their stories to your family. Discuss which of them has brought the light of Christ into your lives this year.  Take an amaryllis bulb to a homebound person or a nursing home resident. Visit the person often during the Advent season, and together watch the plant grow and bloom for Christmas. You and the flower will both be signs of God’s reign of love in our midst.
