A Letter From Our Pastor

Prayer – By Us and For Us Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

P

ope Francis has certainly had an impact on our Church, and maybe even on each of us individually. Do you recall his first words to the world and to us when he appeared on the balcony following his election as pope? He said quite simply, “Pray for me.” That is a feeling I share sometimes when I consider what needs to be done, and what I personally need to do. It may be a feeling each of us has – not just now and then, but relatively consistently. We should set time aside each day to pray. It is through prayer that we cultivate our personal relationship with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We provide many opportunities for prayer as part of our parish life. Our prayer lives culminate at Mass in the Eucharist. The Eucharist, prayer and stewardship are interconnected. This Liturgical article in this quarter’s newsletter is “The Eucharist and Stewardship as a Way of Life.” In Lumen Gentium, we are reminded that the Eucharist is the “Source and Summit” of our Catholic faith. With the gift of the Eucharist and an active prayer life, we are better equipped to carry out the other three Pillars of Stewardship – Hospitality, Formation and Service.

In this issue, we welcome our new Director of Faith Formation, Robin Harris, and our new Formation Assistant, Tara Smith. There is also a listing of our Summer Formation Opportunities for all ages — St. Michael Academy Summer Camp, Choir Camp 2016, and Totus Tuus (formerly Vacation Bible School) for both elementary and middle school/high school. There is also a reminder that all volunteers must complete a volunteer application, a background check and attend a Safe Environment training session. These requirements are not just a parish or diocesan policy; it is a mandate from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Sessions at St. Michael will be shown in the parish bulletin, on the parish website and on our parish Facebook page. I want to assure you of my constant and daily prayers for you. l Papa Francisco indiscutiblemente ha tenido gran impacto en nuestra Iglesia y, tal vez, en cada uno de nosotros individualmente. ¿Recuerdan sus primeras palabras al mundo y a nosotros cuando se asomó al balcón luego de su elección como Papa? El dijo simplemente, “Oren por mí.” Esa es una emoción que comparto en algunas ocasiones cuando pienso en lo que debe hacerse y lo que yo, personalmente, debo hacer. Tal vez es un sentimiento que muchos tenemos – sólo ocasionalmente, sino con relativa frecuencia. Debemos separar un tiempo cada día para orar. Es mediante la oración que cultivamos nuestra relación personal con el Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo. En nuestra vida parroquial proveemos múltiples oportunidades para la oración. Nuestras vidas de oración culminan en la Misa con la Eucaristía. En la Eucaristía la oración y la corresponsabilidad se interconectan. El artículo litúrgico en este ejemplar trimestral es sobre “La Eucaristía y la Corresponsabilidad como Estilo de Vida.” En Lumen Gentium, se nos recuerda que la Eucaristía es la “Fuente y Cúspide” de nuestra fe católica. Con el regalo de la Eucaristía y una vida de oración activa, estamos preparados para ejecutar los otros tres Pilares de la Corresponsabilidad – Hospitalidad, Formación y Servicio. The Eucharist and Stewardship as a Way of Life

M

ore than 20 years ago, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops approved a pastoral letter titled Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response. This document was an invitation to follow Christ Who gave of Himself for us. Each of us is called to serve our neighbors and to be stewards of God’s creation and of all that has been entrusted to us. However, to truly understand stewardship, we must look to the Holy Eucharist which is the total gift of our loving Savior to us. Stewardship is our response to that gift. When we receive Christ’s Body in the Holy Eucharist, we hear the minister say, “The Body of Christ.” To this, we respond, “Amen” – which means in Hebrew, “Yes; it is so.” This is the essence of stewardship. We should enter the Church for Mass out of “thanksgiving” – literally, the definition of the Greek word eukaristos or the root of the word “Eucharist”. We recognize the presence of the Lord in Holy Communion, and then we truly receive the Lord. What is left for us to do is the fulfillment of stewardship — that is, sharing what we have received in love of God and neighbor. Our entire experience speaks to stewardship — we are grateful; we recognize the real presence of the Lord; we receive the Lord; and then we share what we have received. The Eucharist is stewardship celebrated. The Mass is more than a ritual. It is an actual encounter with God, with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We need to respond to the Eucharist with our complete selves. What we experience in the Eucharist should, in turn, translate into our daily lives, showing our love for His body by acts of charity and generosity, spending time in prayer, and expressing our gratitude and our love. God’s greatest gift to us is Christ’s great love for us — this was shown when He was crucified on the Cross to pay the penalty for our sins and to give us eternal life. God’s love for us is without limit, and He offers Himself to us in the Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist. Stewardship is how we respond to that gift.

ace más de 20 años, la Conferencia Episcopal Católica de Estados Unidos aprobó una carta pastoral titulada Corresponsabilidad: Respuesta de Un Discípulo. Este documento fue una invitación a imitar a Cristo que Se entregó por nosotros. Cada uno de nosotros está llamado a servir a sus vecinos y a ser un administrador corresponsable de la creación de Dios y de todo lo que Él nos ha confiado. Sin embargo, para verdaderamente entender la corresponsabilidad, debemos mirar a la Sagrada Eucaristía que es regalo total de nuestro amoroso Redentor para nosotros. La corresponsabilidad es nuestra respuesta a ese regalo. Cuando recibimos el Cuerpo de Cristo en la Sagrada Eucaristía, escuchamos al ministro decir: “El Cuerpo de Cristo.” Respondemos, “Amén” – que significa en el antiguo hebreo, “¡Así sea!” Ésta es la esencia de la corresponsabilidad. Debemos entrar al templo para la Misa en actitud de “agradecimiento” – literalmente, el vocablo griego eukaristos, que es el origen de la palabra “Eucaristía”. Reconocemos la presencia del Señor en la Sagrada Comunión y, verdaderamente, recibimos al Señor. Lo que resta es que demos cumplimiento a la corresponsabilidad – es decir, que compartamos lo que recibimos en amor a Dios y al vecino. Toda nuestra experiencia habla sobre la corresponsabilidad – estamos agradecidos, reconocemos la presencia real del Señor, recibimos al Señor y compartimos lo que hemos recibido. La Eucaristía es la celebración de la corresponsabilidad. La Misa es más que un ritual. Es un encuentro real con Dios, con el Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo. Necesitamos responder a la Eucaristía con nuestro ser entero. Lo que experimentamos en la Eucaristía debe, a su vez, convertirse en nuestra vida diaria, demostrando nuestro amor por su Cuerpo mediante actos de caridad y generosidad, destinando tiempo a la oración y expresando nuestra gratitud y nuestro amor. El mayor regalo que Dios nos ha dado es el inmenso amor de Cristo hacia nosotros – esto se demostró cuando Él fue crucificado para pagar la pena por nuestros pecados y ganarnos la vida eterna. El amor de Dios por nosotros no tiene límite y Él se ofrece a Si mismo en el Santo Sacramento de la Eucaristía. La corresponsabilidad es como respondemos a ese regalo. 3

S

t. Michael is happy to announce the addition of Robin Harris to Parish Staff as our Director of Faith Formation. Robin is the oldest of three children, born in Wichita Falls and raised a Catholic. Her family moved to White Settlement, Texas, in 1978. Robin and her sisters learned service to community and Church from their parents. Robin’s father, Deacon Ron Aziere, was ordained to the Permanent Deaconate at St. Michael’s in 1989, and still serves the Diocese of Ft. Worth at St. Paul the Apostle. Robin is married to Cory and they are parents to 5 grown children. Cory retired from Air Force active duty service in 2007, and they moved to Ft. Worth in early 2008. Robin was hired in May of 2008 as the Director of Social Services at St. John the Apostle parish in North Richland Hills, and later that year became the Director of Faith Formation. Robin was accepted into the University of Dallas, School of Ministry in August, 2008, and completed her Master of Theological Studies in May of 2012. Robin has loved everything about being the Formation Director, RCIA Director, Safe Environment Coordinator, St. Frances de Sales Catechist Trainer and parishioner at St. John the Apostle. She and Cory are grateful to the many people that have allowed them to share in ministry and faith journeys. Robin says that she is a “catechesis nerd” and feels honored and humbled to be chosen to the vocation of catechesis. She loves catechizing all Catholics, building programs and bridging relationships between ministries and parish. It is through much prayer, discernment and consideration that Robin has been called to share her many years of ministry experience, and to become a part of and to serve the parish community of St. Michael. S

t. Michael se complace en anunciar el ingreso de Robin Harris al personal parroquial como Directora de Formación en la Fe. Robin es la mayor de tres hermanos, nacida en Wichita Falls y criada como católica. Su familia se mudó a White Settlement, Texas en 1978. Robin y sus hermanas aprendieron sobre el servicio a la comunidad y la Iglesia de sus padres. El padre de Robin, el Diácono Ron Aziere, fue ordenado al Diaconado Permanente en St. Michael en 1989 y sirve como Diácono en la Diócesis de Fort Worth en la parroquia de San Pablo Apóstol. Welcome our new Formation Assistant, Tara Smith

W

e are happy to announce the addition of Tara Smith to the St. Michael Parish Staff as our Formation Assistant. Tara is the oldest of four children, born and raised a Catholic and a Chicago Cub fan in Bourbonnais, Illinois (just south of Chicago). She moved to Texas with her parents in 1983. She joined St Michael’s Catholic Church with her husband, Cary, in 1989. They have three children, a daughterin-law and their first grandson, Benjamin Patrick. Cary is in the choir and often cantors. Her mother, Rita, is also a parishioner. You will often see them sitting together at mass. Tara loves to spoil her grandson and her four-legged babies, spending time with family and friends, cooking/ baking and doing water aerobics. Tara is a part of the Community Dinner and Feast Day Teams, and the Liturgical Environment Ministry. She heard about the job posting for Formation Assistant from another parishioner. After careful consideration, she knew this is where God wanted her to be. She brings experience in data entry, accounting, customer service and a love of learning new things and meeting new people. os sentimos felices de anunciar el ingreso de Tara Smith al Personal Parroquial de St. Michael como nuestra Asistente de Formación. Tara es la mayor de cuatro hermanos, nacida y criada como católica y fanática de los Cubs de Chicago, en Bourbonnais, Illinois (justo al sur de Chicago). Se mudó a Texas con sus padres en 1983. Ella se unió a la Iglesia Católica St. Michael con su esposo, Cary, en 1989. Tienen tres hijos, una nuera y su primer nieto, Benjamin Patrick. Cary está en el coro y frecuentemente es cantor. Su madre, Rita, también es feligrés. Los pueden ver frecuentemente sentados juntos en Misa. A Tara le encanta malcriar a su nieto y a sus bebés de cuatro patas, pasar tiempo en familia y con amigos, cocinar y hornear y hacer aeróbics acuáticos. Ella aporta su experiencia en incorporación de datos, contabilidad, servicio al cliente y el amor por el aprendizaje a las cosas nuevas así como el deseo de conocer a nuevas personas. New Parishioner Welcome Dinner Cena de Bienvenida a Nuevos Feligreses

n Thursday, April 7, we held our third New Parishioner Welcome Dinner.  We had over 66 new parishioners attend and share a meal with Clergy, staff and members of the featured ministries - Flower Garden and Vegetable Garden, and the Stewardship Committee. They learned the history of our parish, heard from the many ministries in attendance, and on how we are a vibrant and active parish.  A good time was had by all.  Please remember to welcome those around you, for they could be a new parishioner!

l jueves, 7 de abril, tuvimos nuestra tercera Cena de Bienvenida a Nuevos Feligreses. Tuvimos más de 66 nuevos feligreses participando y compartiendo la cena con el clero, el personal y miembros de varios ministerios – Jardín de Flores, Jardín de Vegetales y el Comité de Corresponsabilidad. Ellos aprendieron sobre la historia de la parroquia, los varios ministerios presentes y cómo somos una parroquia activa y vibrante. Todos pasaron un rato muy agradable. ¡Por favor recuerden dar la bienvenida a quienes les rodean, pudiera ser un nuevo feligrés!
