CHANGE Lent is all about change and change is usually not easy. In order to change, we have to leave something behind. Today we hear about a very old man who decides to answer God’s call. Abram experiences a tremendous amount of change when he leaves everything behind, risking it all for God’s promise. Jesus changes, is transfigured, right before the eyes of his disciples. The Lenten scriptures issue the call for us to change, to be transfigured, so that we, too, will soon share in the glory of God. What is it that the Lord is asking us to leave behind? Are we willing to take the risk for the promise made by God? These questions are at the heart of the Lenten journey of conversion.

PARISH NEWS Congratulations to our Elects and Candidates from R.C.I.A. and R.C.I.C. mentioned below! They have recently participated in the Rite of Election with Bishop Gerald R. Barnes and now have entered the Period of Purification and Enlightenment, the time immediately preceding the Elects’ initiation. This is a period of more intense spiritual preparation and interior reflection intended to purify the mind and hearts of the Elect and give them a deeper knowledge of Christ, our Savior. On the third, fourth, and fifth Sundays of Lent, March 27, April 3 and April 10 during the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. masses, the Elect will participate in the three Scrutinies in order to prepare the Elect for the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist which they will receive at Easter Vigil on Saturday April 23, 2011. As a parish community, we extend our support by bestowing our blessings upon the Elect and Candidates on their journey to become fully initiated members of our Catholic faith community. *** Pro-Life Corner *** Spiritual Adopt-A-Baby Program

Everyone loves the beauty and innocence of a baby. As an expression of that love, the St. Frances of Rome Pro-Life Ministry announces an adoption program for young and old alike which will be held from the Solemnity of the Annunciation, Mar. 25, through Christmas, Dec. 25. The members of our parish family will have the opportunity next weekend to “spiritually” adopt a child who is newly conceived this month. Not all newly conceived babies are allowed to be born. In fact, more than 4,000 babies lose their lives to abortion each day. It is these babies you are being asked to “adopt.” You may “adopt” a child individually or as a family by signing up during the weekend of March 19/20. You will be asked to enter your name and the name of the child for whom you will be praying on a pledge card, thereby giving the baby the humanity he or she deserves. Prayer cards will be available for you to use to pray for your unborn child and for all unborn children, for the power of prayer is great. You will receive monthly reports through the parish bulletin describing your baby’s development. Beautiful full color posters depicting the baby’s progress in pictures and words will be displayed on the pro-life bulletin board. At the end of the program, a 'baby shower' will be held and everyone will be invited to bring gifts of baby items to be donated to the Elsinore Valley Pregnancy Resource Center.
