“ORDINARY TIME” - Having completed the Easter Season with the celebration of Pentecost a few weeks ago, and now having celebrated Holy Trinity Sunday and Corpus Christi, we return to the liturgical season called “Ordinary Time.” The term "Ordinary Time" may be misleading. In the context of the liturgical year the term "ordinary" does not mean "usual or average." Ordinary here means "not seasonal." Ordinary Time is that part of the Liturgical Year that lies outside the seasons of Lent-Easter and Advent-Christmas. In Ordinary Time, the Church celebrates the mystery of Christ not in one specific aspect but in all its aspects. The readings during the liturgies of Ordinary Time help to instruct us on how to live out our Christian faith in our daily lives. Ordinary Time in the Church's year occurs in two sections. The first part begins on the Monday following the Christmas season and lasts through the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which begins Lent. Ordinary Time then resumes after the Easter Season, on the Monday after Pentecost, and continues through the summer until the beginning of Advent. The liturgical color of Ordinary Time is green which is a symbol of hope. SEMINARIAN INTERN – This week we welcome Seminarian JohnPaul Talbot to our parish where he will be residing for the next month or so. JohnPaul is studying to be a priest for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and is currently enrolled at the Franciscan University in Steubenville. Please make him feel welcome at St. John Chrysostom’s! PRAY FOR OUR NEW PRIESTS – Yesterday, June 4th, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, Archbishop Gomez ordained 8 new priests for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. This is a tremendous blessing for the Church. Among them was Fr. Anthony Garcias who has been assigned to be our new Associate Pastor starting on July 1st. I’ll have more information about him in the weeks to come. Please pray for our new priests that they will always be holy men zealous for the salvation of souls. 8th GRADE GRADUATES – Today at the 11:30 a.m. Mass we welcome and recognize the graduates from St. John Chrysostom School. Their official graduation is this coming Friday but today they join the parish community together with their parents and family to give thanks to our parishioners for their faithful support of our school. ANNUAL RECOGNITION OF GRADUATES – It has been a new tradition here at St. John Chrysostom’s during the past several years to honor our young parishioners who are graduating from high school or college during the month of June. We will have 2 special Masses of recognition on next Sunday, June 12th. At the 11:30 a.m. Mass in English and at the 10:00 a.m. Mass in Spanish we will recognize these wonderful young men and women and give them a special blessing as well as a small gift from the parish. If you have a member of your family who is graduating this year from high school or college please let them know about these Masses and encourage them to come and attend dressed in their graduation gown and sit in the front pews. Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PARROCO

"TIEMPO ORDINARIO" - Después de haber completado el tiempo de Pascua con la celebración de Pentecostés hace unas semanas, y ahora después de haber celebrado el Domingo de la Santisima Trinidad y el Corpus Christi, regresamos al tiempo litúrgico llamado "tiempo ordinario". El termino "tiempo ordinario" puede ser un poco confuso. En el contexto del año litúrgico el término "ordinario" no significa "lo normal o promedio". Ordinario aquí significa "no estacional." Tiempo ordinario se refiere al tiempo del año litúrgico que se encuentra fuera de las temporadas de Cuaresma-Pascua y Adviento-Navidad. En el Tiempo Ordinario, la Iglesia celebra el misterio de Cristo, no en un aspecto específico, sino en todos sus aspectos. Las lecturas durante las liturgias del Tiempo Ordinario ayudan a instruirnos sobre cómo vivir nuestra fe cristiana en nuestra vida diaria. El Tiempo Ordinario en el año de la iglesia se realiza en dos secciones. Por favor oren por nuestros nuevos sacerdotes para que siempre sean hombres santos “celosos” por la salvación de las almas GRAUDADOS DEL OCTAVO GRADO - El dia de hoy en la Misa de 11:30 celebramos y reconocemos los estudiantes graduados de este año de nuestra escuela parroquial. Su graduación oficial es el próximo viernes, pero hoy se unen con nosotros junto con sus padres y familiares para dar gracias a nuestros feligreses por su fiel apoyo a nuestra escuela parroquial. RECONOCIMIENTO ANUAL A LOS GRADUADOS - Ha sido una nueva tradición aquí en San Juan Crisóstomo durante los últimos años el honrar a nuestros jóvenes feligreses que se graduarán de la escuela secundaria o la universidad durante el mes de junio. NEW PARISH BOOKSTORE COMING SOON! For many years people have been asking about the possibility of having a parish bookstore. Up to now we have not been able to do so due to a variety of reasons especially lack of space and needed funding. However, we have recently been able to reconfigure some of our building spaces and have a space available at the southeast corner of the Parish Hall in an office previously used by the school. We also have a proposal from an already existing chain of Catholic bookstores to come to our parish. At no cost to the parish as a result, I am happy to announce that this summer we will have a new Parish Bookstore named the Good Shepherd Bookstore opening up in our parish. There will be more details in the next few weeks.

BICYCLE POWER – In an effort to encourage environmental responsibility we have installed a new bicycle rack for those who want to bike to church. It is located in the back parking lot directly behind the rectory. Hasta ahora no hemos podido hacerlo debido a la falta de espacio y una variedad de razones, especialmente espacio necesario y financiación. Sin embargo, recientemente hemos podido acomodarnos y tenemos un espacio disponible para utilizar que está localizado a lado sureste del salón parroquial. También tenemos una propuesta de una cadena ya existente de librerías católicas que quisieran venir a nuestra parroquia sin costo a la parroquia.
