Angels have played a significant role in the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Gabriel, the Archangel, announced to her that God had chosen her to be the Mother of the Savior. It is reported in Scripture that an angel told St. Joseph to take her for his wife. Angels sang the praises of God when Mary gave birth to Our Lord, Jesus, in a stable in Bethlehem. And an angel warned Joseph to flee to Egypt, with Mary and Jesus, to escape the murderous Herod. There is no doubt that the angels must have assisted and ministered to Mary at other times in her life and in her death. Surely, an angelic host must have accompanied the Blessed Mother when she was assumed into heaven and crowned Queen of heaven and earth, of men and of angels. Because she is the Mother of God, her sanctity is greater than all the angels and saints in heaven. The angels humbly and lovingly accept that a woman is their glorious Queen, as she was the Mother of God and they are his servants. She is the Mother of the Redeemer while the angels are but the messengers of the work of redemption. She is our Mother, while the angels are our brothers and sisters.

She is the Patroness of Costa Rica. Tradition relates that on August 2nd Pastor’s Administrative Assistant: 1635, the feast of the Holy Angels in Costa Rica, a young poor mestizo Mrs. Greys Lopez ext. 118 woman called Juana Pereira discovered a small statue of the Virgin Bookkeeper: beside a footpath near Cartago, Costa Rica. The image was only about Mr. Ray Micharski ext. 100 three inches high, and carved in a simple fashion on dark stone. Her Faith Formation: coloring was leaden. She carried the Christ Child in her left arm. Only Sr. Carolyn Houck, MPF ext. 107 the faces of Mary and the Child were visible. Juana took the statue home Pastoral Care: with her, but it disappeared at least five times, only to be found at the Sr. Domenica Troina, MPF ext. 102 same place along the footpath. The locals finally took this to mean that Worship & Music: Mary wanted a shrine built there, and so it was. This shrine became a Ms. Yuko Unehara, ext. 103 point of pilgrimage and in 1935, Pope Pius XI declared this shrine to be Mr. Alvaro Rivera, ext. 105 the Queen of Angels basilica. A spring of water has appeared beneath Mrs. Providencia Rodriguez the basilica, and its waters have healed the sick. Office Support Staff: Mr. Walter Muñoz ext. 101 Let us continue to pray for the intercession of our patron, Our Lady of Mrs. Jennifer Campos (eve) ext.119 the Angels, to continue to help us to strengthen our parish community Ms. Felícita Martínez (eve) ext.112 and to work together to do God’s will and serve mankind. WALKING BY FAITH! The Book of Wisdom makes reference to the “night of liberation.” All the Israelites know that it is the crucial moment of their history: the night in which God shows His protection and takes care of the future of the people. The memory of that night gives us strength to overcome our difficulties today. The promise of God sustains the spirit of those who pass the test of faith, both then and now. The faithful Israel has the internal assurance that God acts in history now as He did then. The Eucharistic banquet continues reminding us of that bond with a sacred dedication: the sacrifice of the Cross and the fraction of the Bread. To live faith with certain depth one has always to have before one's eyes the fact which is the foundation of our lives, not by basing it on following “something “or “somebody” but by rooting it in the profoundness of the Mystery of God! The deceit that conceives all injustice, the false calmness of the tirant, any degradation of men, the misleading words of the politicians, the threats of the extremists, the stalking hunt of the sects, or the addictive distractions faced by our children and youth, want to take us out of the center of attention from what should really be occupied our live: Christ! For Him we light our lamps and we are vigilant. We, the Parish Community of Our Lady of the Angels, the Chosen People of God in Christ, await our salvation, as we offer our own sacrifices with the priest who offers again Christ’s Paschal Mystery, instituted by God in the Holy Eucharist. Today, says the Psalm, the nation whose God is the LORD is not any territory of people. It is all the People of God, those who, by God’s grace and their own choice, are united to the Blessed Trinity through Christ’s body, His Church. We are blessed to be called His body. God’s promises to us are greater than His promises to Abraham. God promised Abraham a land and a people descended from him. God promises us salvation in this life, transformation in His image in this life, and eternal life with Him in heaven. While we are invited to live by faith, many things are forcing us to be covered by fear! There has been an overwhelming amount of tragic violence these past days and a seemingly ever-growing amount of hatred expressed towards those responsible for acts of violence. In this Year of Mercy, words like kindness and compassion must be part of our daily routine/action. Next week we will have the opportunity to walk our faith! The Procession with the Madonna di Pierno and the Patroness of the Virgin Mary will show us the way in which we, the descendants of Abraham, keep walking and waiting, never in despair but in FAITH. See you all next week, Blessings Fr. Caesar

PRACTICE FOR PROCESSION PARTICIPANTS There will be a practice with all the participants, ushers, flag bearers, on Wednesday, 10 August at 6:00 PM, ICC. Please make every effort to attend. FLAG BEARERS FOR THE 110th PROCESSION Do you have a traditional outfit from your country of ancestry? Do you want to carry the flag of that country your forbearers came from? Are you a veteran? We need your help!!! We are looking for families to carry the flags that will accompany the procession of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Sunday, 14 August 2016 at 3:00PM at Immaculate Conception Church. If you want to participate, please contact Marylou Tancredi at 609-586-7758 Let us all participate and add color to this public witness of our faith!

(Sal 74,20.19.22.23)

SOLEMNITY OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY Monday, 15 August 2016 Saint Joachim Church at 12:15PM English Mass and 7:00PM Bilingual. We will pray the Rosary before Mass. All are welcome!

Look to your covenant, O Lord, and forget not the life of your poor ones for ever. Arise, O God, and defend your cause, and forget not the cries of those who seek you. (Cf. Psalm 74 (73):20, 19, 22, 23)

READING OF THE DAY PREPARATION Imagine the following scene: you sit down in your school desk. The teacher walks the aisle, placing the paper before you, face down. You set your watch. You will have exactly one hour to do the test. You turn the paper over. Then it hits you: you never took any notes. You never studied or did even one assignment. For a student, lack of preparation is the nightmare of nightmares. Jesus talks about the need for preparation in today’s Gospel. God is pleased to give us the kingdom, Jesus says. “Gird your loins and light your lamps.” See that you are prepared. Jesus’ teaching reminds us of the question once posed to St. Francis de Sales and his companions, who, according to the story, were playing billiards. “What would you do if you knew the end of the world was coming in one hour?” The friends of Francis shared various plottings of how they would get their affairs in order. Most mentioned prayer. Francis shrugged, “I would continue doing what I am doing.” Are you ready to meet the Lord?

First Reading: Wisdom 18:6-9 Second Reading: Hebrews 11:1-2, 8-19 Gospel: Matthew 24:42a, 44 The author of Wisdom speaks of “that night” of exodus from bondage in Egypt when the Lord delivered his chosen people from death. Let us be prepared for the Lord who will come again, perhaps in the midst of night. As we walk in darkness, our journey to our heavenly homeland is illuminated by faith. From ORDO 2016

REFLECTION QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK ADULT: Where and when have you said yes, to live your life centered in God? CHILD: Name a time when you said yes, to love God by the way you acted.

Our next coin & food collection will be August 20/21 2016 Thank you for your support!

OUR PARISH COMMUNITY PUTTING FAITH INTO ACTION! KEEP PRAYING FOR OUR CHILDREN. St. Monica, whose feast we celebrate on August 27, is often known as "the persistent mother." She watched her oldest son, Augustine, turn his back on his Christian faith. Monica was exasperated. For years she gave up talking directly to her son on the advice of a local Bishop, who told her that it was better to talk to God about Augustine than to Augustine about God. The mother never gave up praying for her son. Eventually, Augustine gave up his wild ways, was baptized, and later ordained and named Bishop of Hippo. St. Augustine went on to become one of the Church's greatest scholars. Today, with internet searches, e-mail shopping, text messages, tweets and instant credit, we have little patience for things that take time. Likewise, we want instant answers to our prayers. Monica is a model of patience. Her long years of prayer, coupled with a strong, welldisciplined character, finally led to the conversion of her hot-tempered husband, her cantankerous motherin-law and her brilliant, but wayward son, Augustine. Let us keep praying for our children!
