Fiesta Thank You’s

A very special “Thank You” is sent to everyone for making this year’s Fiesta such a great success! Every year a group of dedicated, creative and very brave community volunteers gather to plan, organize and motivate the coming spring Event. Over the course of several months, booths are planned, ride company solicited, volunteers gathered, silent auction gifts are procured, music acts are rehearsed, food vendors found and donations are solicited. The amount of hours expended are countless. There are really too many people to thank by name, because together we are a “well oiled piece of machinery”. Thank you Megan Silviera for your leadership and creative visions. A special Thank you to Mrs. Beuder and all the teachers who donated their classrooms this year and their many hours of manning the ticket booth, and all the many volunteers who worked so hard in all of the game and food booths. Though the Fiesta is our community’s biggest fund-raiser of the year, it’s main purpose is to bring our community together in a fun casual and safe environment. It is through countless volunteered hours of hard work that we can realize how unique and special OLG really is. Thank you to all those who made this weekend possible. We are still putting together the final figures of our parish fiesta. Receipts are still coming in and as soon as we have a final report we will let you know. Once again Thank You to everyone for all the hard work, volunteer hours and all who came and supported our event and made this Fiesta a great community builder and financial success.

Food Drive Next Weekend

Our monthly Food Drive will be next weekend, April 20—21. Please bring your nonperishable food donations and place them in the baskets at the back of the church. We also accept cash and checks made to Hand’N’Hand. Also, if you would like to donate your time, please come to the parish hall any time between 8AM and 11AM on Sunday morning to help sort, bag, distribute, and deliver the food. DONDE EMPEZÓ TODO En este tercer domingo de Pascua, el Evangelio nos cuenta otra de las apariciones de Jesús resucitado a los discípulos. Y nos sitúa en el mar de Galilea, concretamente en el lago de Tiberiades. Aquí es donde Jesús, tres años antes, llamó a Pedro y los otros para que fuera pescadores de hombres. Aquí es donde Jesús invitó a Pedro a salir a pescar y echar las redes mar adentro, después de toda una noche sin haber pescado nada. Aquí es donde sacaron tal cantidad de peces, que Pedro cayó rendido y arrepentido por la desconfianza a los pies de Jesús. Aquí es… donde empezó todo. Y puede parecer que es donde todo va a terminar. Pedro y los discípulos han vuelto a su vida cotidiana de pescadores, decepcionados por el aparente fracaso de Jesús, muerto en la cruz. Vuelven a salir a pescar y de nuevo “aquella noche no cogieron nada”. Están desesperanzados y sin rombo, todo les sale mal, otra vez. Pero Jesús no les deja y se vuelven a aparecer ante ellos, aunque de entrada no le reconocen. Jesús les hace una pregunta para que expresen su situación: “muchachos, ¿tenéis pescado?”. En la negativa de los discípulos va también su sensación de fracaso. Pero Jesús vuelve a decir lo de aquella mañana, tres años antes: “echad la red”. Y de nuevo se produce el milagro. Echaron la red “y no tenían fuerzas para sacarla, por la multitud de peces”. Para cuando Juan le quiere decir a Pedro que “es el Señor”, Pedro ya se ha echado al agua para ir corriendo al encuentro del Maestro. Ha reconocido sus palabras, las mismas que le convirtieron en Apóstol. Cuando todos llegan a la orilla, Jesús les ha preparado el almuerzo. Falta que ellos pongan su ofrenda, de su trabajo, de lo que han pescado gracias a Jesús, que lo ha multiplicado. Y entonces se sientan a comer. Y Jesús “toma el pan y se lo da, y lo mismo el pescado”. Los encuentros con el resucitado siempre tienen una referencia Eucarística, recordando lo que Jesús les dijo en la última Cena: “haced esto en memoria mía”. Y cuando Jesús parte el pan, los discípulos ya no tienen ninguna duda de que es Él, de que ha resucitado como les había dicho. Ahora todo tiene sentido. Ahora son testigos del resucitado y han de anunciarlo a todo el mundo. Y Pedro y Juan se plantarán en el Sanedrín, delante del Sumo Sacerdote, la máxima autoridad religiosa, que les ha prohibido hablar de Jesús, y le dirán: “hay que obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres”. Y con la paz que da encontrarse con el resucitado, aquellos hombres saldrán de allí “contentos de haber merecido aquel maltrato por el nombre de Jesús”. Y seguirán predicando que Jesús ha resucitado hasta el final, hasta dar la vida. Nosotros también somos testigos del resucitado. Le experimentamos vivo y presente en medio de nosotros cada vez que venimos a la Eucaristía. Y también en cada persona, en cada hermano, especialmente en los más pobres, y en cada situación de la vida cotidiana. Porque Jesús está vivo y sigue actuando en la vida y entre las personas, y sigue tocándonos el corazón y cambiando nuestras vidas, en la medida que lo dejemos. Cada uno de nosotros ha de tener su propia experiencia de encuentro con el resucitado, con su amor incondicional, que llene nuestra vida. Así, nuestra fe nos llevará a testimoniarlo con todas nuestras fuerzas y sin miedo a nada. Hoy Jesús también nos ha preparado el almuerzo, como todos los domingos. Nos sienta a la mesa y nos pide “de lo que hemos pescado”, de nuestro trabajo de la semana, que lo presentemos en esta mesa, para que Él lo multiplique para el bien de toda la humanidad. Nosotros colaboramos en su proyecto de que a nadie le falte de nada, que todos tengan lo necesario para vivir. Jesús nos invita a esta mesa para que en todas las mesas haya pan y esté Él. Ese ha de ser nuestro testimonio de que creemos en el resucitado en estos tiempos. Que nuestra fe en Jesús resucitado nos lleve a descubrirle, en nuestra familia, en los que están enfermos, en los que necesitan de mi y a veces me hago indiferente. Jesús vive por medio de mis actos ,no lo dejes muerto, RESUCITALO.

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 8, 2016. The best gift of love that one can give is to offer a Mass for our mothers, both living and deceased. Mother’s Day Novena cards will be available in the back of the church next weekend or in the parish office. Please place the donation envelope in the collection basket or bring your donation to the parish office. Please be sure to write down the name of your mothers so that she can be remembered in prayer.

Jubilee Year of Mercy April 10, 2016 Third Sunday of Easter

How appropriate today’s Gospel for this

Jubilee Year of Mercy, both because of

the “breakfast” Jesus provides (“a charcoal fire with fish on it and bread”) and the number of fish in Peter’s net (“one hundred fifty-three”) (John 21:11–12). Of the fish, Saint Augustine suggests that the roasted fish is the suffering Christ. Saint Gregory the Great adds that Christ lowered himself to swim in the “water” of our humanity; to be caught in the “net” of our death; to be “roasted” in his Passion on the fire of suffering. Saint Jerome claims that “one hundred fifty-three” represents the full number of known species of fish, signifying that the Church’s “net” has room for all our widely diverse humanity, securing our unityin-diversity in the hands of Peter and his successors. Having received God’s mercy as “the beating heart of the Gospel,” may the Church—we—“pattern [our] behavior after the Son of God who went out to everyone without exception” (Misericordiae Vultus, 12).
