Our Lady of Fatima Rosary The Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, appeared 6 times to 3 children: Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta between May 13 and October 13, 1917. She came to the little village of Fatima which had remained faithful to the Catholic Church during the persecutions by the government. Coming at a time when civilization was torn asunder by war and bloody violence, She promised that Heaven would grant peace to all the world if Her requests for prayer, reparation and consecration were heard and obeyed. QUEEN OF PEACE RESPOND’S TO GOD’S CALL TO GRATITUDE THROUGH DISCIPLESHIP OF TREASURE Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, This weekend’s Gospel teaches us a lesson of gratitude and its importance in our path toward Discipleship. “As they were going they were cleansed. And one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice; and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. He was a Samaritan. Jesus said in reply, ‘Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine? Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?’” (Lk 17:14-18). This leper falls at the feet of Jesus and glorifies God, because He has a real encounter with Jesus. He realizes that at this moment, his life has changed; it will never be the same again. He has received an enormous gift He can never repay. All he can do is give thanks. In the Gospel, Jesus points out that ten lepers were healed, but only one returns to give thanks. The Lord calls us to acknowledge how much He gives us in His infinite love, and to pray for gratitude, so that we may trust Him with everything He has given us. With this in mind, we are starting our Discipleship of Treasure this weekend. We are acknowledging God’s many gifts in our lives and giving Him thanks by giving back to Him a portion of those gifts. We are recognizing that everything we have – our time, our family, our home, our job, our money, our talents come from Him. A few weeks ago, we focused on giving back to God a portion of the time He gives us, by pledging to spend a certain amount of time with Him in prayer and time learning about our faith. Starting this weekend, we are turning to our material goods and our finances and putting them in God’s hands. We are continuing our path toward becoming the intentional disciples He calls us to be through Discipleship of Treasure. Next week, at Mass, you’ll hear more from me about how God calls us to be good stewards of His great gifts. Those of us you regularly receive envelopes from Queen of Peace or contribute through Faith Direct every month will receive two letters from me inviting you to be Christ's disciples with your finances, and to respond to God's love with a gift of love with our material goods. Those of you, who do not receive envelopes or give to God through Faith Direct, will find Pledge Cards in the pew pockets in two weeks, with the same invitation. Then, together, we will pledge to give God part of our income, our first and best 10%, in thanksgiving for His many gifts. These three weeks are a time of faith and trust in God, who says in the Gospel: "Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured onto you” (Lk 6:38). It’s important, that as we think about the pledges we will make to God, we spend time in prayer. We are much more generous when we ask Him to tell us what to do with our material goods before we come to Mass, instead of coming and throwing in the basket the leftovers. Queen of Peace has approximately 7,000 registered parishioners. 1,350 regularly give either through envelopes or through Faith Direct, in an average of $12 per weekend. On the other hand, about 5,650 families give without envelopes, that is, without much planning or making a physical commitment to God, in an average of $2 per weekend. Those who give through Faith Direct, that is, those who plan even more, give to an average of $30 per weekend per family. What's the point? Families give 6 to 15 times more depending on how much they put themselves before God to honestly ask what He wants from them out of gratitude for all his gifts. I understand that everyone’s financial situation is different, but I ask that you consider the graces and gifts God has given you and your family. Will you be like the one leper who gave thanks, or will you be like the other nine whom healed by God, continue on their way without acknowledging how good He has been to them? Pray, brothers and sisters, about how God is calling you to be grateful to Him by putting Him first by being generous with your material goods. In Christ,

REINA DE LA PAZ RESPONDE AL LLAMADO DE DIOS A SER AGRADECIDOS A TRAVES DEL DISCIPULADO DE BIENES Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas, El Evangelio de hoy nos ensena una leccion en gratitud y su importancia en nuestro camino hacia el Discipulado. "Mientrás ibán de cámino, quedáron limpios de lá leprá. Uno de ellos, al ver que estaba curado, regresó, alabando a Dios en voz alta, se postró a los pies de Jesús y le dio las gracias. Ese erá un sámáritáno. Entonces dijo Jesus: '¿No eran diez los que quedaron limpios? ¿Donde estan los otros nueve? ¿No ha habido nadie, fuera de este extranjero, que volviera para dar gloria a Dios?'" (Lc 17:14-18). Este leproso se postro á los pies de Jesus y glorifico a Dios, porque tuvo un verdadero encuentro con Jesus. Se dio cuento que en ese momento, su vida había cambiado; nunca sería la misma de nuevo. Recibio un enorme regalo que nunca podría recompensar. Lo unico que le quedaba hacer era dar gracias. En el Evangelio, Jesus nota que diez leprosos fueron sanados, pero solo uno dio las gracias. El Señor nos llama a reconocer cuanto nos da en su infinito amor, y rezar por gratitud, para que podamos confiar en Él con todo lo que nos ha dado. Con esto en mente iniciámos nuestro Discipulado de Bienes este fin de semana. Reconocemos los tantos regalos de Dios en nuestras vidas, dandole gracias, regresandole una porcion de esos regalos. Estamos reconociendo que todo lo que tenemos – nuestro tiempo, nuestrá fámiliá, nuestrá cásá, nuestro trabajo, nuestro dinero, nuestros talentos vienen de El. Hace unas semanas nos enfocamos en darle a Dios una porcion del tiempo que nos da, prometiendole dedicarle cierto tiempo en oracion y tiempo para aprender mas sobre nuestra fe. Este fin de semana, y durante el resto del mes, vamos a aprender a poner nuestros bienes materiales y finanzas en las manos de Dios. Vamos a continuar nuestro camino para convertirnos en los discípulos intencionales que quiere que seamos, a traves del Discipulado de Bienes. La proxima semana en Misa, hablare mas sobre como Dios nos llama a ser buenos discípulos de sus grandes regalos. Aquellos que regularmente reciban sobres de Reina de la Paz o contribuyan a traves de Faith Direct cada mes recibiran dos cartas de mi parte, invitandolos a ser discípulos de Cristo con sus finanzas, y a responder al amor de Dios con un regalo de amor con nuestros bienes materiales. Aquellos que no reciban sobres o le den a Dios por medio de Faith Direct, encontraran Tarjetas de Promesa en la parte de atras de las bancas con la misma invitacion. Entonces, juntos, prometeremos darle a Dios parte de nuestros ingresos, nuestro primer y mejor 10% en agradecimiento por todos sus regalos. Quizas dar el 10% sea algo nuevo que nunca han hecho antes. Los invito a que le den la oportunidad a Dios a mostrarles que en El se puede confiar. Quizas el primer paso puede ser dar lo que ganan en una hora de trabajo a la semana. Estas proximas tres semanas son un momento de fe y confianza en Dios, quien dice en el Evangelio: "Dad, y os será dado; medida buena, apretada, remecida y rebosante, vaciarán en vuestro regazo. Porque con la medida con que midáis, se os volverá a medir". (Lk 6:38). Es importante que pensemos en la promesa que le haremos a Dios, en oracion. Somos mucho más generosos cuando le pedimos que nos diga qué hacer con nuestros bienes materiales antes de venir a Misa, en vez de venir y echar en la canasta las sobras. Reiná de lá Páz tiene álrededor de 7,000 feligreses registrádos. 1,350 dán regulármente por medio de sobres o Fáith Direct, un promedio de $12 a la semana. Por otra parte, 5,650 familias dan sin sobres, es decir sin planearlo o sin hacer compromiso físico con Dios, un promedio de $2 por semana. Aquellos que dan por medio de Faith Direct, es decir, los que planean mas, dan un promedio de $30 a la semana. ¿Cual es el punto? Las familias dan entre 6 y 15 veces mas dependiendo de cuanto se ponen frente a Dios para preguntarle con honestidad que quiere de ellos, en agradecimiento por todos sus regalos. Entiendo que la situacion financiera de cada persona es diferente, pero les pido que consideren las gracias y los regalos que Dios les ha dado a ustedes y a sus familias. ¿Serán como el leproso que regreso á dár gráciás o serán como los otros nueve, que sanados por Dios, continuaron su camino sin reconocer que tan bueno había sido Dios con ellos? DISCIPLESHIP OF TREASURE

While modern-day Catholics might be reluctant to stress the tithe, God was not. The command to tithe is mentioned 46 times in sacred scripture. Certainly, if we are going to raise up our children in the ways of Our Lord, at some point we need to talk about tithing. During our Discipleship of Treasure month, we will also be introducing tithing to our Religious Education students. Here is just a little background information to prepare you for that task. During the month of October our catechists will be asked to send two letters home with the children “And he blessed him, and enrolled in religious education. One letter will include a said, Blessed be Abram youth pledge card asking of God Most High, for parents’ permission to possessor of heaven and allow their children to earth: and blessed be God complete the pledge card Most High, who hath considering how they will delivered thine enemies offer their time and talent into thy hand. And he gave and to make an offering to God each week at mass. him a tenth of all.” The other letter will be Genesis 14:19-20 addressed to the parents asking them to give prayerful consideration to also completing their own pledge committing to give back to God in thanksgiving for all He has given to them. If you are already tithing we thank you. If you have not started this practice of giving back to God a portion of what he has gifted to you, here is your chance to perhaps start or maybe consider increasing the amount you give back to Him each week to carry on the work of His church. Remember, everything we have is a gift from God. He asks only for a share back to Him.

Our food closet is always in need of canned or packaged goods - canned fruits, meats, tuna or chicken, canned vegetables, spaghetti sauce, spaghetti, and mac and cheese. Things like diapers (all sizes), and toiletry items, including paper goods are also much appreciated. What we don't spend on food can help more people with rent, utilities, food certificates for perishable items, bus tickets and other needs. We are so appreciative of your continuing support through the Poor Box. We couldn't continue our mission without you.

We are busily preparing for our Annual Holiday Craft Fair, which will be held on November 5th and 6th. We still have a few tables left, so if you are a crafter and would like to have a table, please stop in at our office (St. Francis Room) during the week to pick up an information packet. To our wonderful supporters who bake, we will need baked goods to fill our tables - pies, cakes, candy, cookies, breads, etc., so please consider baking an item or two for us. The mass includes a renewing of the marital vows. It is always a great joy to recognize couples who have reached such a milestone in their marriage. We celebrate the witness of their fidelity to the sacrament of marriage.

CONFESSION: FROM THE DIARY OF ST. FAUSTINA I would like to say three words to the soul that is determined to strive for sanctity and to derive fruit; that is to say, benefit from confession. First word-complete sincerity and openness. Even the holiest and wisest confessor cannot forcibly pour into the soul what he desires if it is not sincere and open. An insincere, secretive soul risks great dangers in the spiritual life, and even the Lord Jesus Himself does not give Himself to such a soul on a higher level, because He knows it would derive no benefit from these special graces. Second word-humility. A soul does not benefit as it should from the sacrament of confession if it is not humble. Pride keeps it in darkness. The soul neither knows how, nor is it willing, to probe with precision the depths of its own misery. It puts on a mask and avoids everything that might bring it recovery. Third word-obedience. A disobedient soul will win no victory, even if the Lord Jesus himself, in person, were to hear its confession. The most experienced confessor will be of no help whatsoever to such a soul. The disobedient soul exposes itself to great misfortunes; it will make no progress toward perfection, nor will it succeed in the spiritual life. God lavishes His graces most generously upon the soul, but it must be an obedient soul.

LA CONFESIÓN: DEL DIARIO DE SANTA FAUSTINA Y deseo nuevamente decir tres palabras al alma que desea decididamente tender hacia la santidad y obtener frutos, es decir, provechos de la confesion. La primera, total sinceridad y apertura. El mas santo y mas sabio confesor no puede infundir por la fuerza en el alma lo que el desea si el alma no es sincera y abierta. El alma insincera, cerrada, se expone a un gran peligro en la vida espiritual y el Senor Jesus Mismo no se ofrece a tal alma de modo superior, porque sabe que ella no sacaría ningun provecho de estas gracias particulares. La segunda palabra, la humildad. El alma no saca el debido provecho del sacramento de la confesion si no es humilde. La soberbia mantiene al alma en la oscuridad. Ella no sabe y no quiere penetrar exactamente en lo profundo de su miseria, se enmascara y evita todo lo que la debería sanar. La tercera palabra es la obediencia. El alma desobediente no conseguira ninguna victoria, aunque el Senor Jesus Mismo la confiese directamente. El mas experto confesor no ayudara nada a tal alma. El alma desobediente se expone a gran peligro y no progresara nada en la perfeccion y no se defendera en la vida espiritual. Dios colma generosamente con gracias al alma, pero al alma obediente.
