Prayer For/Oremos Por To assist St. Augustine’s during the transition in administering to the sick we are asking your cooperation when submitting names for the Prayers of the Faithful and names to be added to the bulletin listing of the sick. The office staff will be requesting some details such as contact name, phone number, address, etc. This will help determine the need for a clerical visit or assistance through a Eucharistic Minister for the homebound. The bulletin listing of the sick will be grouped bi-weekly so that we all can be aware of those newly added to the listing. The bulletin will maintain the listings for three months unless otherwise specified to be listed indefinitely. After three months names can be added once again if not otherwise listed as indefinite. We will begin with the names presently included within the Prayers of the Faithful. Thank you for your assistance and cooperation. PALM SUNDAY OF THE LORD’S PASSION
WORSHIP Preparing for the Sunday readings Go to liturgy.slu.edu ENCOUNTER THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL Year Two: Focus on the Domestic Church – Marriage & Family
REFLECTION Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion "Pilate addressed them a third time, 'What evil has this man done? I found him guilty of no capital crime.'" The Palm Sunday Gospel readings present a sad picture of grown-ups who succumb to peer pressure. Three times, Pilate proclaimed that Jesus was not guilty. But yet, he gave in to the mounting pressure from the crowd, whose "voices prevailed... and he handed Jesus over to them." Also, during the opening Gospel at the procession of palms, we see the adoring crowds hailing Jesus as "the king who comes in the name of the Lord," but only too soon the chorus changes as the voice of the crowd cries out, "Crucify him! Crucify him!" What happened to Jesus' loyal supporters? How did the mob mentality overtake them all? Then too, we have Peter, who in comfortable company with Jesus and his friends promised eternal faithfulness. But when others began asking uncomfortable questions, he caved: "Woman, I do not know him." These three scenarios give us a chance to reflect on our own faithfulness as we journey into Holy Week. Like Pilate, do we know the truth but abandon it when it becomes unpopular? Public opinion these days declares much Church teaching to have fallen out of favor--will we renege like Pilate or stand fast to the faith? The fickle crowds demonstrate another kind of weakness, where instead of thinking for themselves, people just followed those around them. Are we guilty of this kind of passive intellectual laziness? How about Peter's problem: do we change our story based on current company, or do we live as consistent Christian witnesses in the world? This week, may we have the courage to accompany Jesus all the way to the cross, no matter what anyone else may do. ©Liturgical Publications Inc.
CHRISTIAN FORMATION Year of Mercy: Forgiveness is a decision not a feeling. Adult After L.I.F.E. We are so very grateful for the time and knowledge shared by Monsignor Francis Muench, Judicial Vicar for the Diocese, during our March Adult L.I.F.E. session. This continued naturally from his session last month on marriage. The “Annulment” topic was approached through the understanding of the general judicial process, the teachings from Canon Law and their implications, and the questions that arose from those in attendance. Expertise and compassion surrounding an often difficult…and certainly often complex subject...such an invaluable combination! Stay tuned for information in this very spot concerning our April and our May “anniversary” topics! CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS Elementary Sunday L.I.F.E. (Living In Faith Everyday) The next Elementary L.I.F.E. session is April 10th. There are no other session in March because of Easter and Public Schools Spring Break. Have a safe and Blessed Easter break. Reserve the dates!!! Vacation Bible School (VBS) is coming June 20th—24th. Jesus will be gathering us together in the “Barnyard Roundup”. Contact Fran Kuzma in the office to help, ext. 1120. Children’s Liturgy One of our helpers is stepping down to take care of her elderly mother. May God be with her in her Ministry of Care and know that we all are praying for them both. So, this means we need more help! You do not have to go to another Mass and training is provided. Parents, teens, young adults why not go out with the children and see how easy it really is to share the Word with our children of St. Augustine. Contact Fran Kuzma ext. 1120 for more information, and to help.
EDGE/LIFETEEN Deacon Corner: (By Deacon Al) The Triduum is a single feast, the Paschal Mystery, celebrated over three days, and they are the three holiest days of the entire liturgical year. It is ironic, however, that feasts like the Assumption on August 15, All Saints Day on November 1, and the Immaculate Conception on December 8, are holy days of obligation while the three days of the Triduum are not. There is no Church law that requires attendance for the Triduum, but good laws only make compulsory what should be done anyway. Triduum ranks at the head of the liturgical calendar. It celebrates the most sacred mysteries of our faith, and ought to be celebrated with the community at liturgy. The Jews have three high holy days, three pilgrimage feasts, Passover, Pentecost, and Booths, and those who lived outside of Jerusalem made pilgrimage to the Temple to celebrate these solemn occasions. The three days of the Triduum are our “high holy days,” our “pilgrimage feast,” and we ought to make pilgrimage from our homes to church to commemorate and honor how the Lord Jesus laid down his life for us, his friends, for our salvation.
This week at Edge/LIFETEEN, we talked about the reality of Satan and the tactics he uses to lead us away from Christ. More people are ascribing to the idea that Satan is a concept or a myth rather than an actual intelligent being. This idea is not held by the Church, which maintains that Satan is a real being that was created by God, but chose to rebel against God and seeks our ruin. It is dangerous to think otherwise, as it leaves us open to being attacked without realizing it. We began the session with a video that presents the reality of spiritual attack and temptation. We closed the night with a time of prayer and Eucharistic Adoration. Our next EDGE/LIFETEEN session will be held on Monday, April 4th. Topic: Armor and Angels: Sacraments, Angels and Saint Michael ENCUENTRO RETREAT—April 30 – May 1, 2016 All Hispanic youth in grades 9-12 are invited to participate in the Encuentro Retreat held at Westview on the James in Goochland.

©Liturgical Publications Inc.
