Desde el Escritorio del Párroco

This weekend we welcome representatives from the Catholic Foundation who are eager to share with us information about their organization. For those who are not familiar with the Catholic Foundation, its main purpose is to establish and manage assets within the Diocese of Columbus, providing perpetual funding for parishes, schools, and ministries. As I have mentioned on a number of occasions in previous bulletins, the Catholic Foundation has supported Christ the King significantly over the years. I am grateful for the foundation’s work and pray that more of our parishioners, with an eye to addressing the long-term needs of our church, collaborate with this worthwhile organization.

Este fin de semana les damos la bienvenida a los representantes de la Fundación Católica, quienes están ansiosos por compartir con nosotros información sobre su organización. Para los que no están muy familiarizados con la Fundación Católica, su principal propósito es establecer y administrar bienes dentro de la Diócesis de Columbus y proveer ayuda permanente a las parroquias, escuelas, y ministerios. Como he mencionado varias veces en boletines anteriores, la Fundación Católica ha ayudado a Christ the King significativamente a través de los años. Allow me to comment briefly on the Building Bridges event that took place last Sunday afternoon. Several different countries were represented – we had parishioners from the United States, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico – and everyone who attended had a thoroughly enjoyable time. It has become apparent to me that the individuals who attend the Building Bridges events are themselves “bridges” within our community. That is, their willingness to engage others parishioners has helped us connect the various ages, ethnicities, and cultures that are found at Christ the King. I appreciate those who are continuing this work of integration (not allowing language barrier to deter them!), and I encourage you to participate in the next Building Bridges event.

Permítanme comentar brevemente sobre el evento Construyendo Puentes que tuvo lugar el domingo pasado. Hubo representación de varios países diferentes – tuvimos feligreses de los Estados Unidos, El Salvador, la Republica Dominicana, y México – y cada uno de los que asistieron pasaron una tarde completamente agradable. Black Catholic Ministries 2014 Revival will be at Christ the King Church on November 3, 4, and 5. The Reverend Maurice J. Nutt will lead the Revival each night at 7:00 p.m. (This event is in English.) Christ the King Women’s Club invites all to attend Aunt Hattie’s Luncheon on Sunday, November 9, in the All Saints Academy gym. This luncheon is a longstanding parish event which builds parish spirit and benefits parish charities, including the Family Life Christmas Giving Tree. The Bishop Griffin Center also benefits. We hope you will join us for good food and fellowship – all for a worthwhile cause. Bring your friends, your families, and your neighbors! Doors will open at 11:00 a.m. for a baked good sale and chances on a large raffle and raffle baskets. The large raffle consists of $400 in assorted merchant gift cards, a small flat screen TV, and a handmade blanket. (No luncheon tickets are necessary to view items and purchase these chances.) Then the luncheon will begin with a salad bar at 11:30 a.m. and will include a buffet lunch at noon. Luncheon tickets are being sold in the vestibule after Mass (before the 12:30 p.m. Mass) through Sunday, November 2. The price is $16 for adults and $9 for children. Raffle tickets will be available in the vestibule. Purchased raffle tickets and money can be placed in an envelope marked “Women’s Club” and placed in the collection basket, returned to the parish office, or brought to the event on November 9. Please consider filling a gift basket to be raffled, donating a gift card, or baking something for the baked goods sale. Small items for door prizes will be also accepted. While baked goods will only be accepted the weekend of the event, all other donated items may be brought to the vestibule after Mass until Sunday, November 9. (This event is in English.)

The tasks include cleaning the building at the end of the school day, setting up for events, and tearing down after events. The pay is $10/hour at 20 hours/week. Volunteers needed for our library: If you love books, we are looking for a few good volunteers to work one or two days a week to help our librarian. We need help with re-shelving books, mending books, cleaning the shelves and book jackets, and more. Volunteers must have completed Protecting God’s Children and have taken BCI and FBI fingerprints. Outside the Parish Bishop Hartley Youth Wrestling is open to boys in grades 1-8.
