Dear Friends, As we prepare to open a new year with all kinds of celebration and hope, I announce to you all that this coming year will be one of hope . . . and hopefully great accomplishment in this your. . . Parish of St. Joseph of the Palisades. I can hardly believe it is possible that this year begins my 11th year as your pastor. I think that over these past years we have accomplished a great deal. Our attendance is up to again to well over 3,600 or more people every Sunday. We have initiated a wide variety of devotions and opportunities to learn and appreciate the Gospel message. We have restored our church and chapel to their intended beauty. Our Elementary School has attained the title “academy,” and it is growing. We have brought numerous children and adults into the faith through dynamic programs of catechesis and formation. We have even recognized the importance of the arts and culture in the lives of our people. But in this coming year, in this coming month, we will be presenting to you our parishioners an important goal that with your help, and the grace and guidance of the Lord, we can achieve. The goal is to prepare our parish for its future through stabilizing our financial support and re-organizing our parish facilities to better and more efficiently serve you. I ask and encourage you today to listen carefully with open minds and hearts to the messages you will receive in the month ahead and prepare to step up into a new and more involved relationship with your Parish of St. Joseph of the Palisades; truly a community of . . . Bring a Can OR give a Dollar

A rather new tradition will take place on Sunday afternoon of the 27th, an AFTER CHRISTMAS SOCIAL, open to everyone and hosted by our Parish Pastoral Council and the Organizations of the parish. All are invited to join us at 3:00 in the afternoon in the community center. . . And some will go home as winners of our Winter Raffle, to be drawn at 5:30 p.m. Get your raffle chances in soon, and maybe pick up a few extra books of chances at the rectory!!

Our Food Pantry collection will take place the last weekend of every month. We ask you, our parishioners, to bring a can of soup or tuna fish or a jar of peanut butter or any non-perishable item to church but should you forget, we will gratefully accept a dollar. Thank you for any choice you make!

Holy Hours

St. Joseph’s Academy continues to collect “Box Tops for Education” found on General Mills cereal boxes and some Betty Crocker baking products. We also use the labels for Education from the Campbell Soup Company. So if you use any of these products please send your box tops or labels in an envelope in the collection basket. It couldn’t be easier and the children of our grammar school will benefit.

FAMILY LIFE Family life is sacred, but it is not without trial. Perhaps this is the most important message we can glean from today’s readings. If Jesus, Mary, and Joseph can trip up sometimes—can disconnect—then we shouldn’t find it surprising when such things happen to us as well. And parents everywhere (children, too) can probably relate to—and take some solace in—the Gospel’s account of Mary and Joseph after Jesus explained why he stayed behind in the temple. They heard his words, Luke tells us, “But they did not understand what he said to them” (Luke 2:50). Amen! Nevertheless, Jesus does go back home with them, and continues to thrive under their care. Baby Items Needed St. Joseph’s Pro-Life Group provides baby items to needy mothers of the parish. Currently they are in need of the following donations: baby food, formula, diapers, clothing (newborn to 3 years), carriages, car seats, toys, cribs, etc. All baby items are accepted.

Baby Items Available Mothers in need of any baby items are encouraged to go to the Lower Community Center, every second Saturday of the month, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Donations of Clothing Our Pro-Life Group provides clothes and basic necessities for babies and toddlers. And the bins in the school parking lot are always full of clothes and shoes for Catholic Community Charities. As winter approaches, please consider sharing your sweaters and coats with this worthy cause. May you see the face of God in all you help!

Fiesta Navideña Parroquial Abierta y gratuita para todos domingo, 27 de diciembre Se le invita a reunirse con su familia parroquial en el espíritu de la Navidad, de 3:00 p.m. a 6:00 p.m., en el centro comunitario de la parroquia. Refrescos, villancicos de Navidad, e incluso premios para algunos ganadores afortunados de la gran rifa 50/50. Por favor únase a nosotros y ayudenos a llevar el espíritu de la Navidad a los últimos días de diciembre. Despensa de Comida Alimentar a los pobres y necesitados de la parroquia es la misión de nuestra despensa de comida. Más de 120 familias reciben ayuda cada tercer sábado del mes y todo gracias a la generosidad de nuestros feligreses. Nuestra despensa debe ser reaprovisionada cada mes y las siguientes donaciones de alimentos no desechables serán agradecidas: arroz, pasta, cereal, atún, espaguetis y albondigas, sopa, salsa de espaguetis, leche evaporada, frutas y vegetales enlatadas, frijoles, jugos, macaroni con queso, manteca de mani, etc. Gracias por su apoyo continuo a nuestra despensa de comida.

Se invita a todos los hombres El Grupo de Hombres “Huellas de Jesús” invita a los hombres de la parroquia cada sábado, de 7 a.m. a 8 a.m., a reflexionar y conversar con el Señor en oración.
