Unity in Diversity

We the community of Our Lady of Peace Parish are a welcoming Catholic family, richly diverse in culture and language, who have chosen to come together because of our common faith in Jesus Christ. Grounded in Baptism, in Word, and Eucharist, we are committed to give ourselves in service to share the Gospel message of hope and new life, and to support one another in living our faith in the world.

Sunday Reflection Brothers and Sisters in Christ, This Wednesday, we begin the wonderful season of Lent. Our liturgical color changes once again to violet, but more of a reddish purple. This color matches the color of the sky as the sun sets as the 40 days of Lent lead us towards the death of the Jesus, the Son of God. It is a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. I invite us all to reflect on how we can allow these three penitential acts to be part of our 40 days of Lent. These acts remind us of the need to put God first in our lives as we are called to love Him with all of our heart. They also remind us to love one another as we unite ourselves with others in our giving. During this year of mercy, let us allow Lent to be a wonderful time to enter deeper in the grace received through the sacraments and liturgies offered by the Church. Here are some special liturgies taking place. Our Ash Wednesday services are listed in the bulletin. Please note the times and locations. We expect a large amount of people for Ash Wednesday, especially in the afternoon/evening. We have hired traffic control to assist in cars exiting the lots. Those exiting on Langdon Street from our South gate must turn left. Those exiting onto Nordhoff will be assisted in turning right. We encourage you to enter the parking lot from Langdon heading North rather than turning off of Nordhoff and into the parking. Please be patient with us as we do our best to accommodate everyone. Once again, please be aware of the grace received from attending a Catholic service for Ash Wednesday. Other “quick” offerings of ashes does not have the liturgical character connected to it and doesn’t prioritize the importance of this day. Thursday, February 11th, on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, we will have a special bilingual mass at 7PM with the sacrament of the anointing of the sick. The receiving of the sacrament of the anointing is reserved for those who are ill, elderly or prior to a major surgery. This evening will be an opportunity for us to gather with our loved ones who need the prayers of the Church. Please join us. Finally, we are starting bilingual Stations of the Cross beginning at 6:30PM every Friday of Lent. Join us in church for this wonderful devotion as we walk the way of the Lord. May your Lent be filled with God’s mercy and love. Our Lady of Peace… pray for us.
